Great RI Vacation!

Guest: JB (North Haven, CT)
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 02/10/12

My family and I have stayed at this location twice in the last three years. You could not ask for a better location. The home has everything you would need or want for vacation. Plus the beach pass is great, you can use it for a few different beaches in the Charlestown area. The house is well equipped and is close to many area attractions. The house is set back off the road, which makes it secluded and no traffic noise to bother you. There is a large deck on the back with outdoor furniture and grills. The house is spacious and the rooms large and clean. There is central air, a washer, dryer which are very convenient. All and all this is a great house for anyone looking to get away and relax in Rhode Island. My family and I will be returning. We enjoy the house, Joe the owner is great and very accommodating. Go and Enjoy!!

AWESOME RENTAL!

Was here for URI graduation weekend, 5/20-5/23, 2011. The listing description, photos were very accurate. The grounds were even nicer then the listing photo. The property was very clean and well-maintained and the location was perfect for any URI function, especially coming in the back way. The property owner was very accommodating and very pleasant to work with, especially booking as late as I did. We arrived much later then we had hoped and everything was ready for us without having to wait for someone to meet us. My daughter who was graduationg from URI also got engaged that weekend. Because of the privacy, the size of the house, the amenities, we were able to have a BBQ on Sat night with both families (around 20) meeting one another for a relaxing evening, bbq with 2 gas grills, horsehoes, firepit for toasting marshmellows (s'mores) which we would not have been able to do at a hotel/resort. Though I didn't get to meet Joe, the owner, in person, he made this a very pleasing experience. I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone, especially a family with children. Wished I had known about this place during the past 6 years for URI functions!! I would totally disregard the one poor review from ANG on 1/5, worst rental experience ever. This reivew is very suspicious and other VRBO beware of them! I would definitely rent this house again or from the owner Joe. Thanks Joe for a very memorable weekend!!

great home

This is a very roomy comfortable home that is in a great loaction. It is close to the beach and close to attractions as well. It is also very secluded in a private setting something you don't usually find in a rental property. The house is clean and well equiped with everything you will need for a great vacation. My friends and I have been staying in this house every fall for our surf fishing week and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

Five years and counting...

Guest: Gary P. (Barrington, RI)
Date of Stay: 09/22/10 Review Submitted: 09/28/10

...or has it been six years? We've lost count; only Joe knows for sure. Big, comfortable, and clean. Close to the beach and secluded. Every year there is something new in the house; last year it was HDTV and this year there is a new grill. The patio furniture is very comfortable; we spend our evening hours sitting outdoors. You will find good appliances in the kitchen, and Joe is always available if you need him. We are planning on coming back again next year.

Best Vacation in 13 yrs of going to Charlestown

Guest: Dave (Boston, Ma.)
Date of Stay: 09/03/10 Review Submitted: 09/24/10

I have spent the last 13 years staying in Charlestown at many different places. This location was without question the best yet. The house was far and above any rental I have ever stayed in. It was fully equipped, conveniently located, everything worked perfectly and it was well kept inside and out. The instructions left by the owner for us were clear, detailed and made it very easy to settle in, and also to check out, in addition to explaining the operation of various items within the house. Very well maintained property, I look forward to returning in the future.

Lovely, Clean, Comfortable and Spacious

I had occasion to be in Rhode Island during the busy Labor Day weekend, with (this year) a hurricane predicted to hit. A friend of mine rents this particular house from Joe each year, on this weekend (has returned 6 or 7 times). I was lucky enough to be included in the group this year. When I arrived at the house, I was very pleasantly surprised. The house was set back from the road, so no noisy car traffic sounds .... the foliage was lovely, with a nice deck to sit out on ..,, The house was so large, that with 12 people staying there, we all had plenty of room. Totally clean , with all ammenities, I would definitely highly recommend this house .... and the owner, Joe, was very willing to help with anything .....

Every Labor Day weekend for the last three years, I've stayed at this lovely house with a bunch of friends, and we've always had a great, great time. The house is in excellent physical shape and is always clean and neat. It's clear that the owner is a conscientious person who takes great pride in his property. I feel very lucky that we have such a wonderful place available to us for our annual "getaway"!

Back again and AGAIN!

This is our third year renting this house and we were especially pleased with the rental this time. The house was emaculate when I got there. It even smelled of bleach (but not unpleasantly so...) which is how I know it was cleaned thouroughly! The grounds were freshley groomed and the owner has made improvements since I was there last year including: new beach chairs, great deck furniture, a new grill, new glasses, pots and pans etc. I could not light the grills on the deck and when I called, Joe came right over to deal with it. This was during the rains of Hurricane Earl, I might add! He brought a brand new tank with him and lit both grills for me. He is willing to do everything in his power to be accomodating with any special requests, if he can (I have had a couple)! This year he seems to be putting some extra work in to upgrading the house which I appreciate greatly. He has offered to replace some of the matresses in the bedrooms which have proven to be a source of some back aches! I have stayed in other rent-a-houses where the tenants have to clean the house and do the laundry before leaving. Not the case here! All that is done for you after leaving. All my guests were impressed. Thanx Joe! See you same time next year.... ps Thanx to whoever left the Klondike bars!

Worst Rental experience ever.

Guest: Ang (Charlestown, Rhode Island USA)
Date of Stay: 08/07/10 Review Submitted: 08/27/10

3 weeks prior to our vacation Owner calls us and tells us he double booked and would have to cancel our week even though we booked the house months before. After threatning legal action we got to keep our week. However upon arriving at the house we were aghast to find the house in complete disarray and filth. I really don't know where to begin with this. The bathrooms and kitchen were disgusting. Found all sorts of stains on the walls, floors and ceilings. The carpets were all stained and looked like they havn't seen a vacuum in months. The windows were so dirty we couldn't even see clearly out of them. On top of it all even the landscaping was all overgrown. It took 5 of us 3 hours to clean this house just enough to make it liveable for a week. I'll stop there.....but there's more to come.

Owner response:I have been renting this house since June/2003. I have never had a derogatory remark written about this property.I has mistakenly double booked for this week.I E-mailed this group with 3 suggestions:I would give them any of the 3 other weeks in August for FREE. I would return all their $ and they would live FREE for the entire week. They refused. The 2nd.option was that I would return all their money and they could find another place andI WOULD PAY FOR THE 2ND. PLACE-they refused this offer. They accepted the 3rd. offer to take the original week and I would find another house for the other family that I overbooked. This is what we did. I was supervising the grass cutting when this family arrrived at my property. I stayed there for 30 minutes and ultimately talked to one of the men in the group(about 35 years old) who told me what I beautiful house that I had and that he had always dreamed of being able to buy a summer house as nice as mine. Also, another man asked me where to find one missing horseshoe to the game in the yard. We could not find it so I went to a local store and purchased a new horseshoe set. There was no mention of any problems with the house. That night, Saturday, they called me and said that the dishwasher was leaking. I accompanied a licensed Appliance repairman there on Monday. He had to order a part and we both returned on Thursday to install the new part. The dishwasher then worked perfectly. This is the only inconvenience. All the walls inside were painted in April/2010 and were in excellent condition. There is absolutely no evidence that this family washed any walls(there was no need to wash them). The bathrooms, kitchens, appliances and floors were cleaned 3 hours before their arrival. The same cleaning company has cleaned this house for the last 8 years and I have never had any complaints about them. There certainly were no stains on the walls, sinks, cabinets or toilets. The refrigerator was immaculate(it is only 13 months old). There is also absolutely no evidence that they washed any windows (not needed) This family tried to demand their $ back with the threat of writing a bad review. This does not work with me.This is a beautiful house that is always in excellent condition.

We'll be back next year!!!
