The best hide a way anyone could hope for. Quaint and relaxing to say the least. The owners are as charming as a couple could be. Has to be the best anniversary get away my husband and I've had in 17 years. Wish our stay could have been longer but we will definitely return for a longer stay

Owner response: We're so glad you enjoyed spending your Anniversary in the Oaks Cottage. It was a pleasure meeting you and we are so glad you were pleased with your stay and accommodations.

When I first sat down to write this review, selfishness made me want to say every negative thing I could think of so that I could keep "my" cottage to myself. That was short-lived when I realized that I couldn't think of any negatives. Fact is, Bay St. Louis and the Oaks Cottage have become my home away from home. Each time I leave there, I've already begun to plan my next stay. The cottage and it's amenities are perfect for one or two. The location could hardly be better. The owners are good people who know the Bay and surrounding area very well. The town continues to grow and improve post-Katrina, and has a full calendar of events. There are great restaurants, great shops in Old Town, great festivals, and great people. Be sure to visit Cypress Cafe, North Beach Restaurant, and a bakery called Serious Bread. See their beautiful churches, and spend a Second Saturday in Old Town. Shop at Century Hall, and have breakfast at Buttercup. Feed the ducks at the pond by the cottage. Whatever you do, take your time. Relax. And come back soon.

Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Owner response: We always look forward to your visit. It makes us happy to see that you love BSL as much as we do and have become such a great ambassador for both the Oaks Cottage and our town. Hurry back!

There are so many "bests" that it's hard to choose one. Location....steps from the Depot District, two blocks to the beach, two blocks from Old Town. Privacy....I've never stayed anywhere that was so centrally located while also being so private and secluded. Character....the Cottage and grounds exude character, from the big ole oak tree protecting the cottage to the comfy, private patio for your morning coffee. The size of the cottage is perfect for one or two, and has no barriers for those with mobility issues. It is neat and clean, and, for me, the washer and dryer and wifi were a God-send. Worst thing about the Oaks Cottage? Leaving.

Owner response: We are always happy when our guests enjoy the cottage and our town and do not want to leave the Cottage. We look forward to your next visit. Thanks for your kind words.

I stayed at The Oaks cottage for a solitary weekend retreat and loved it! With the beach and restaurants withing walking distance it suited my purpose perfectly. The covered patio was super relaxing and not too hot in the morning and evening. I would recommend this cottage for those wishing to slow down and relax.

We enjoyed a very peaceful three weeks stay at this cottage. This unit is very well equipped for an extended stay. It is situtiated on a very large private lot with beautiful mature tree. It is close to the beach, restaurant and shops. Bay St Louis is dissected by a railroad system and blast from passing train horns can be heard night and day. After a few nights the trains became routine and their passing did not impede sleep. We enjoyed the outdoor patio and preparing our evening meals on the big green egg BBQ. This community provides a small town charm where locals are very friendly. The properity owners Margie and Reg are quality individuals / a true reflection of the southern hospitality. Since our return home we fondly reflect on our stay in the little cottage under the big oak tree in the land of warmth and sunshine.

Owner response: Thank you for choosing The Oaks Cottage for your "stay in the Bay". We enjoyed hearing about your home in Canada and look forward to seeing you again.

We visited family in October 2011 and loved the place! Just the right size; comfortable and cozy and close to shops and restaurants. Wish we could have stayed longer. Charming hostess Margie made us feel at home. I hear they will soon have a 2 bedroom home available -- can't wait to see the pics. Thanks so much for a great weekend.

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 1999

About the owner: Reg and Margie purchased the Palm House, an authentic 19th Century West Indies styled Planter's Home, in 1999. After two years of hard work, the home was completely restored to it original beauty (with all the modern conveniences). When we 'retired', we opened a Bed and Breakfast in March, 2001. We re-did the Oaks cottage for our seven children and spouses and eleven grandchildren when they come to visit. However, the cottage soon became our most requested accommodations for the B&B. Like the rest of our town, Hurricane Katrina did significant damage to our home and business and due to the unavailability of affordable insurance we did not re-open the B&B. However, we are still able to share our cottage with all the great visitors to our area.

Why the Owner Chose Bay St. Louis:
Bay St Louis can best be described as a 'lifestyle' instead of a town. There is no other place with such beauty, great people, diversity of talent, great people, incomparable food, oh did I mention great people, and a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. You have to 'experience' it to know what we mean. That is why those of us who lived here before Katrina knew we HAD to come back to help re-build our town.

The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
The Oaks cottage is privately located on the property of our home(formerly the B&B)so we are available to assist you with any of your needs or requests. Guests often comment that their stay in the Bay reminds them of days when a trip 'across the Lake' was something to really look forward during summer vacation. The slower pace helps everyone leave relaxed and refreshed.
