Schoodic Scenic Byway
The Schoodic Scenic Byway travels through one of the last frontiers on the eastern seaboard (along Route 1 and 186 from Sullivan to Prospect Harbor). This region has many protected and private lands that are maintained as open space and agriculture to reveal an unspoiled and 'real' Maine. Pass through a working landscape of lobstering, clamming, blueberry barons and timberland.

Schoodic Peninsula Bike Tour
Loops take cyclists through the easternmost reaches of Acadia National Park at
beautiful Schoodic Point, as well as through picturesque fishing villages and along a
dramatic stretch of Maine’s rocky coast. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the point and
enjoy spectacular views of Mount Desert Island and Frenchman Bay along the way.
The 29-mile loop begins at the Schoodic Area Chamber of Commerce
kiosk on US 1 opposite Young’s Market and Mobil Station in
West Gouldsboro. The13-mile loop begins in Winter Harbor.

Wow the views from Eagle cottage were spectacular ! The accommodations were great for two families with 4 adults and 5 teenagers. We had plenty of space and made use of the out door covered patio and the garden with fire pit. The upstairs sitting area was a bonus for later evening gatherings and views over the bay with the sunsets of particular note. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked, easily allowing us to cook family meals. This part of Acadia is a little removed from the main Bar Harbor district with the advantage of being of the beaten track hence not many tourists. We particularly enjoyed a cycle ride around Schoodic point. That said following the owners directions for a short cut to Bar Harbor worked well. We will definitely go back again…

We are a group of three professional artists and a photographer along with two spouses. We were looking for the perfect place to use as home base for a week long painting trip, and Eagle View Cottage far exceeded our expectations! The views from the house and property are positively gorgeous. The grounds are well maintained, neat and trim. Covered porch, deck, picnic tables, outdoor seating, fire pit all made for relaxing times eating, socializing (and painting!). The front of the cottage is adorable with buoys, lobster trap and wood sculpture, just charming. The pictures of the view on the website look great but the actual view is so much better! We were delighted, it far exceeded our expectations. Inside was absolutely clean and neat when we arrived. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessities. All the furniture in the common rooms and the bedrooms was comfortable (including the beds) and in good repair. Bathrooms all very clean. Sheets, towels, curtains and linens of every kind, all clean and fresh when we arrived. The second floor deck was wonderful and the third floor bedroom, sitting room and bathroom give a nice option for more privacy. The decor inside includes a large support bean carved into a sculpture, ask Gene the care taker (2 doors down) to tell you the story behind it, I won't spoil your fun and tell it here! Both Gene and the owner, Tony were very accommodating and easy to work with. We spent a great deal of time on the Schoodic Peninsula, part of Acadia Nat'l Park which is only 15 min. away. We loved the blueberry pie from Tracy's down the street on Rt. 1, enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting at Bartlett Winery, definitely worth a visit, try the Meade Wine, the Peach and the semi-dry Blueberry, bought incredibly delicious lobsters at the lobster pound in Sorrento. This isn't a "tourist" area with gift and trinket shops, it's beautiful, quiet and more authentically "Maine". We will be going back!

What a beautiful home! The view was amazing and the home so comfortable. Coffee on the 2nd floor deck. Breakfast on 3rd floor sunroom. We completely enjoyed our stay here. The house was clean and very well appointed. Was a pleasure just to remain there!! Did visit Canada, Bar Harbor and picnic at Scoodic Point. I would highly recommend this home for a wonderful stay in Maine!

Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful review. Reviews like yours really help to showcase what Eagleview has to offer. This was our 2nd stay at Eagleview - 2 weeks this time! A spectacular, private setting and a spacious house with a yard overlooking the water. Handled our group of 8 adults, 1 baby, 2 dogs plus 2 more adults who stayed at a local B&B, but were at the house most of the time. The house is beautiful and well appointed with lots of room to spread out or gather everyone together. The location is great for exploring the entire area - Acadia, Donnell Pond (great swimming beach), hiking, local artists' studio. Bob's lobsters were terrific. The last few days, it was just the two of us - very quiet and serene. Our highest recommendation!

Four of us had the pleasure of enjoying this cozy, quiet, nicely appointed house with an extraordinary view. We found it perfectly located for quick trips to Acadia, The Schoodic Peninsula, "color" up north, and even Lubic and the Canadian Island nearby. Although we didn't prepare any meals, if we had, the kitchen has everything! Yes, it is just off US 1, but you'll never know the highway is there. We couldn't have enjoyed a vacation house more. Even the practically tame chipmunk that lives out back was a real treat. He will eat peanuts out of your lap! Most importantly, to us, the owners are helpful, warm, and trustworthy. We will be coming back. Dan, Marsha, Woody, and Diane..Port Saint Joe, Florida

Eagleview is on the quiet Schoodic Peninsula but it was a perfect jumping off point for so many adventures. The house itself is lovely with plenty of room, a cozy gas stove (it got chilly at night!), and a well-equipped kitchen. The view from the 3rd floor was my favorite. We rented kayaks for the week and spent several hours paddling around the bay and Hog Island(?). The tides are huge and essentially leaves a mud flat at low tide but just plan accordingly and it's fine. Two of our favorite hikes were Black Mountain at Donnell Pond (they call it moderate but it's pretty vertical!) and the loop down on at Acadia on the Schoodic Peninsula. We did this one in the rain with our dog and it was great! A little slippery, but great :) We took the shortcut over to MDI (thank you, Tony!) and hiked Gorham Mt., Jordan Pond and a couple of others. Eagleview was a perfect location for us: close enough to everything but quiet and secluded for some privacy and downtime. We would definitely recommend it to anyone. Very dog friendly - our dog LOVED it.

Owner response: Thank you for the wonderful review. I'm glad you took advantage of the opportunity to paddle right from the Cottage, and yes the island across from the Cottage is Hog Island. We’re fortunate to have a local kayak outfitter deliver kayaks to the Cottage free of charge for those renters that don’t have their own. As far as hiking, the Donnell Pond area with Black Mountain is a favorite. With its close proximity to the Cottage, it make for easy access. I agree, Eaglveiw is close enough to everything yet secluded and private.

This place really delivered. We were looking for a house on the water, privacy, ability to do fires outside, and beautiful views. We got it all!! The views from the third floor were superb! And despite of the house being pretty secluded there happens to be a market right across the street which was super helpful when we needed something and didn't want to go to Ellsworth. Absolutely no complaints. Perfect place! We really hope to make it out again next year.

I would highly recommend this property for its location. The property is maintained and decorated well. The owner is prompt in taking care of any service/maintenance required. Only reminder is to get something to stay away from the bugs as you are getting closed to the nature.

            Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Thank you for the comments. Although the service/maintenance issue was just a stopped up toilet (and yes we do have plungers on hand), our caretaker was prompt in responding Anurag’s request for assistance. Rest assured, when you stay at Eagleview Cottage we make every attempt to ensure your visit is an enjoyable experience. And while it is true that the mosquitoes and black flies were in abundance this spring as a the result of an extremely wet winter, Mother Nature is just to set in her ways for us to have any control over her. So, yes as I suggest to all renters, bring with you insect repellent when you visit Maine and are close to nature.

My friends and I were planning a trip up to Acadia national park in late May. We looked at a numerous different locations to stay but in the end it was this property at Scoodic Point that proved to be the most flexible and convenient. We only wanted to stay for a few days while most properties required a minimum of one week. We also needed a house that was reasonably close to the park as well as to the nearby towns. Eagle View Cottage met all these requirements and then some. Tony, the owner, was so easy to work with and was extremely responsive to our questions and needs. Everything detailed in the listing was provided and the property was even personally cleaned by Tony prior to our arrival. I highly recommend this property to those with children or with a reasonably sized group. The house had the feel of a cabin in the woods but with all the comforts of a vacation home. I will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Acadia.

Owner response: I always get a thrill when renters write a review. We count on our renter reviews to give you, the potential renter, a true sense of what you can expect when you stay at Eagleview Cottage. Just as it was a pleasure to work with John to help make his vacation an enjoyable experience, let us do the same for you. Please consider a stay with us at Eagleview. When you stay at Eagleview you can expect worry free accommodations so that you can focus on creating an exciting, memorable vacation experience that you can look back upon with great satisfaction. Thanks for the review John!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Eagleview Cottage. The Cottage is quite spacious and well kept, the kitchen well equipped and a pleasure to work in and the views are breathtaking. We awoke most mornings to the view of eagles nesting across the flat and even had one eagle fly straight over us as we had just opened our eyes. Most mornings my husband, accompanied by our dog, Strider, went blackberry picking from the blackberry bushes that line the drive to the cottage. What a treat! They were rewarded for their efforts with a blueberry/blackberry pie baked in Tony's wonderful kitchen or we made blueberry/blackberry pancakes most mornings and ate them out on the balcony while we watched the eagles and other birds fish while the tide was still out. In the past we have usually stayed a bit further south on the coast, so the fact that the cottage is only about 30 minutes to Mt. Dessert Isle made frequent day trips to Acadia National Park a breeze. Schoodic Pt is even closer and should not be missed! And best of all the cottage is only 10 minutes away from our favorite restaurant in all of Maine, Le Domaine in Hancock. Definitely a stop for those who want some authentic French country cuisine when you have had your fill of the usual Maine seafood joints. Canoeing, kayaking and biking are also very convenient. Tony is very easy to work with, true to his word and the neighbor who maintains the cottage is very friendly but not intrusive. My husband's only complaint was that the bed we slept in was too firm (I thought it was just fine!) About the only regret we both had was that we only stayed a week--next time we'll have to stay longer! Thanks again Tony for sharing your little piece of paradise with us and welcoming our hiking and canoing canine too!

Owner response: I’m so thrilled that you found the kitchen to your liking. After discussing the possibility of you baking a blueberry pie I’m glad that there were enough berries for you to make it a reality. I had a chance to sample both the blueberries and blackberries in early September. As far a complaints, my wife’s only complaint is that after all these years she has yet to see the eagles in flight. Guests never seem to have that problem, hence the name, Eagleview!
