Our first visit to Hawaii, we spent 3 nights at Judy and Mark's and it was the best 3 days of our stay on O'ahu. The condo was spacious, very clean and fully equipped. The location is perfect, close to the bike path, many beautiful beaches and the town of Haleiwa. Bikes are provided so you can bike from one beach to the next. Judy and Mark are welcoming lovely people who gave us precious advise. We definitely recommend this beautiful place and sincerely wish we will get to stay there again. Give us a shout if you ever want to sell it. Nassima & AlexeyRecommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at Judy and Mark's bungalow during our trip to North Shore last week. It had everything we needed - very clean & comfortable, wonderful views, fantastic location, & all the amenities to enjoy the beaches (snorkel gear, chairs, umbrella, etc.). Judy's recommendations for places to see and local eats were spot on & their kindness was very much appreciated. We've already talked about coming back some day and feel that we'd return to the great bungalow apartment on the hill. Mahalo!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: It gives us great pleasure when guests enjoy their stay. We always look forward to knowing that they will return again as we so enjoy the special friendships that are developed. Our rates are very affordable so that guests extend their stays making them feel a part of the neighborhood, community and our lives.

This is a great find! We will most definitely come back again to the north shore and staying here. It was very affordable and quite worth it. My husband and I planned this trip as the honeymoon we never took. Judy welcomed us and made us feel at home. She answered all our questions and gave us suggestions of places to go and things to do (it was our first time in Hawaii and we really had no idea of good sites). The place was spacious, clean and neat. I found all the necessary cooking and eating ware I needed. The bathroom was well supplied with towels and such(including shampoo and conditioner). There was even a can of bug repellant (I forgot to bring any) which really came in handy. When we arrived the power was out on that side of the island (due to a storm from the night before). She provided us with ice, an ice chest and plenty of flashlights. Luckily the power came back on later that evening but it was nice to know she was looking after us. The Scuba gear she provided was excellent and we enjoyed snorkeling. We also used the bogey boards that were available as well. The location was great and the beaches close (one private beach with wonderfully soft sand, pretty good for surfing and bogey boarding if you know what you are doing). Sunset beach (if you prefer slightly firmer sand) was a quick drive away or a slightly longer walk. It was nice to be away from the busy touristy parts of the island but still in driving distance to them. Judy was so obliging and kind. She made our stay very enjoyable by all the small things she thought of. She was so supportive to us during the tsunami watch/warning of march 10th and 11th .She let us know what was going on and kept us updated. I was really grateful to be on a hill, her place was just outside of the evacuation zone. We decided to stay and wait it out opposed to evacuating. Judy kindly invited us up to her deck(offered us refreshment too) to wait out the time it was supposed to hit. What a blessing that nothing happened to us or to that side of the island. We went to bed after that but Judy said they would warn us if it was necessary for us to go. All in all our vacation was amazing. We enjoyed fresh fruit smoothies and tasty grilled food (on the downstairs grill). The sunsets were wonderful and we even were able to see some whales from our front step (we brought binoculars with us). We are so glad we went and grateful to Judy for making our stay so comfortable and memorable.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: It was my pleasure. I hope to see you again soon.

"For real-the North Shore is truly the best site in Oahu island and the best place to stay while here is this place-Judy's bungalow! Make sure you visit the "Turtle Beach" and Pipe Line an hour or two before it gets dark ...use the bikes and snorkel gear. This place is the best. Thank you for "Did you find this review helpful? Stayed with Judy and Mark this summer and it was a fabulous week. The bungalow is extremely comfortable and Judy made some excellent recommedation both before and during my visit. As a single woman traveling alone, I felt secure having the owners on site. Felt very safe in the area. Pictures accurately reflect the rental, was clean upon arrival and they accomodated a late check out since no one was scheduled in after me. I was a bit disappointed as to the location and access to the beach, however, since it would be difficult to walk and carry your belongings (chair, umbrella and other beach essentials) for a day at the beach. This was not an inconvenience for me as I had a rental car and wanted to spend time on other beaches as well. Would I stay at this location again? Absolutely!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Such a pleasure talking with and getting to know Angela and sharing "local" places to see and things to do. So happy to hear that her time with us was all that it could be with the exception of the distance to the beach. We are located hillside and off the main road thus the privacy and safety however that does require a short 3-5 minute walk to the end of our street. It really is a short distance and has never been an inconvenience with any guest. Being hillside and off the main road is what makes this property so special and allows for a nice ocean view. The beach located at the end of our street and across the road is also very private and is considered a neighborhood secret since there is no public parking or noticeable public access from the road.

About the owner: The North Shore of Oahu seemed the perfect choice after 22 years of living aboard, raising two children and sailing a sailboat throughout Mexico, the South Pacific and the Pacific Northwest. My husband and son both avid surfers had to live in the '7 Mile Miracle' and be within walking distance to the surf. I myself love to kayak, paddle outrigger canoe, snorkel and swim. The North Shore is the perfect playground for us to enjoy the ocean that we love.
Why the Owner Chose Sunset Beach:
We decided to buy and settle on the North Shore to be close to the ocean and the surf. California was just to busy and hectic so in 1985 we set sail for a more quiet lifestyle. After first arriving in Hawaii we lived for many years in Honolulu but the city life was just not for us we had to get away from all the high rise hotels so we moved to the 'country'. We love the simple, quiet country living that the North Shore provides with no high raise hotels and big box stores. Life is good on the North Shore.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
What I love most about our location is waking up to the sound of the birds and the falling asleep at night to the gentle trade winds and the sound of 'quiet'. I love the fragrant tropical flowers that I have grown and that are now abundant since we first bought the property. The fragrances of the puakenikeni, plumeria, gardenia, white ginger and trumpet flower are so intoxicating especially after a light tropical rain shower. The mornings and evenings just before sunset are my favorite times to be outside whether working in the yard, riding my bike or going for a refreshing swim at Sunset Beach or Waimea Bay. During the warmer times of the day I find a cool place to sit back with a book. It is so pleasant while reading to be cooled by the gentle trades and serenaded by the birds. I love that our bungalow home is on a safe quiet street perched on the hillside overlooking the ocean and away from the two lane highway and foot traffic that living at or on the beach can have, but yet it is just a short walk down our driveway and street to the beach.
