Why the Owner Chose Avon

After 20 years of vacationing in the Outer Banks, I had a pretty good idea of what all of the locations and villages had to offer. The northern part of the Outer Banks is too built up to suit me. Avon Village is centrally located, has more amenities than any other Hatteras Island location, and is bordered on the north and south by the beautiful Hatteras Island National Seashore (5 mins from the house). You have easy access to the Ocean and Sound Beaches for swimming, surfing, shell collecting, windsurfing, kite-boarding, and many other activities. This area is truly unparalleled on the Atlantic Coast and has been repeatedly named in the top ten beaches in the US.

Owner's Map of Avon

I'm a psychologist and researcher at the National Cancer Institute of NIH.
My love-affair with the Atlantic's barrier islands began during my summers as a lifeguard on Assateague Island in Maryland. As surfing developed into a passion, I began to venture to Hatteras Island since it was the ideal water-sports playground in a pristine natural seashore setting. My two sons loved the beach when they were young, and continued to enjoy Hatteras as teens and now, as adults. Avon on Hatteras Island is the anchor where all the generations of my extended family love to get together on an annual basis. And, yes, I am still surfing - with the same crew - in Hatteras!

    • This place is a sportman's paradise. We just returned to Florida from the Outer Banks and we are already planning a return trip for next year, or sooner if possible ;). This house would be a great selection for the adventure travelers. ie. kiteboarders, because it has great storage for all your gear, a HOT shower outside by the carport and a great hot tub on the balcony to relax your sore legs after another great OBX session. The place is also well equipped for the family travelers and I would highly recommend Surfdancer for all.

    • We just got back from a week at the beach and loved staying at Surfdancer. Glen made sure we had all the information we needed and the home was wonderful. The location is great because it is close to everything we needed and especially to the beach. We had a great time and hope to come back again, this was one vacation we were not ready to come home from.

    • surfdancer was everything we needed it to be. our son was married on the beach and we had a party for 22 people in the house and it was more than enough room. also, the well provisioned kitchen had everything we needed. we have stayed at a lot of beach cottages over the years and hands down this was the cleanest one we have ever rented. also, the owner, Glen, was very helpful in giving us information we needed to make the wedding go off smoothly. we loved the beaches, the lighthouse and all the touristy things there were to do there and would definitely go back to surfdancer.

    • SurfDancer is a Lovely beach home on the Outer banks. The four bedrooms and three baths accommodate a large family very well. I especially enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the sunrise and sunset. The house is very well equipped. The owner, Glen, is extremely helpful, and he goes out of his way to make sure that everything is right.. Surfdancer is conveniently located in Avon, and it is only a short walk to the beach. This is our third visit to surfdancer, and we are happy repeat quests. We consider the Outer Banks to be a bit of heaven on earth. Sincerely, The Mish Family Davidsville, PA

    • We had an amazing time while staying at Surfdancer. The pictures on line does not do this house justice. It is absolutely beautiful. I just can not say enough good things about our trip here. From the beginning, Glen has been very helpful, and recommended several different web sites where we were able to obtain a lot of information about the outer banks before we arrived. I would also recommend Toppers (withing walking distance) Great food. Overall, one of the most enjoyable vacations ever!!

    • Surfdancer is a wonderful place to stay and Glen is a great host! I second all of the comments about the kitchen, the layout of the house and, especially, the hot tub. The frogs at night are a joy to hear. That probably sounds odd if you've never heard them. The location is superb with nearby grocery stores, shops and restaurants but remote enough to be out of the hustle and bustle which is what I want from a vacation. Be sure to head south and visit the lighthouse and Hatteras Village.

    • This was our first time staying at the house, first time at any house, and our first vacation with two children. It worked out perfectly- the house itself was perfect- great layout and space, well-stocked kitchen, great hot tub, and quick access to the beach. We especially appreciated the IKEA poang chair- just like at home. For those of you with kids, it worked out great- the high-chair that was there worked well. Great views from the deck, wonderful time sleeping, just great overall. We were very impressed with Owner Glen's help and information, he definately keeps the house up well, and does a great job communicating. We hope very much to stay again next year, and possibly make this a yearly family vacation.

    • We had a fabulous time at the Surfdancer last week! The spring peepers in the lake were awesome at night - a great serenade while using the hot tub. The house was great - it's the first place we've been to that had decent pots and pans and not the teflon coated stuff with it all peeling off. We saw 4 deer pass through the pathway to the lake one day and one evening a raccoon was out wandering around in the path. The house was very clean and has everything you need. It's a quick, easy walk to the beach and the grocery store is very close and handy also. Glen is very easy to work with and will make sure you are satisfied! Thanks again!

    • My family (husband, myself, my boys 7 & 5, and my mom) were extremely happy with the 'SURFDANCER' beach house. This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and we couldn't have asked for a more wonderful house to stay in. 'SURFDANCER' has everything you need and more. Large kitchen and dining area made it really easy with two kids. Living room was really comfortable to have all of us in it. And the view was awesome. The kids enjoyed the bunk bed room and my husband and I like the fact that the hot tub was right outside on our deck. It is also very quiet and peaceful so if relaxtion is what you are looking for then you have found it here. Glen, the owner is such a sweetie too. He called to make sure we got in all right and we were actually able to meet him while we were there. He has a kind soul and is a wonderful owner to deal with. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we will be back ASAP. You WILL NOT be disappointed in 'SURFDANCER' or Glen Morgan. We give it five stars and five A+s. So enjoy and have fun. The Lanning Family

    • We rented the Surfdancer in mid-March, and didn't get the unseasonable weather we'd hoped for, but we had a fantastic time anyway because the house was so comfortable and well-appointed. Sunset over the lagoon from the very private hot tub is not to be missed. Glen, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
