Come and stay at our custom-built marsh-front BEACH HOME -- located just a block off the ocean. You will have all of the upper level (2nd story) & widow's peak to yourself. We are located 15 minutes south of historical downtown St. Augustine, 5 minutes north of Marineland, the world's first underwater studio and "oceanarium" and just 35 minutes north of the world-famous, fun-filled Daytona Beach, all beautiful coastal drives.
The upper level consists of a huge Dining-Kitchen-Living area with 1/2 bath, spacious bedroom with large full bath, wrap-around deck and a widow's peak/tower. The petite dining nook rests in the southeast corner and offers an ocean view. The modern, all-electric kitchen is fully equipped and separated from the living area by a full-length, old-Florida pecky cypress bar. The roomy living area is covered by cherry/oak wood floors hand-made from trees cut right here in Florida. The bedroom (with plush king-sized bed) and living area open onto wrap-around deck.
The west-facing deck is uncovered for those sunbathers not wanting to leave the house, and the southeast-facing deck is covered for a shaded reprieve. Ascend the spiral staircase to the tower for a panoramic view of the ocean, marshland, Matanzes Inlet, Summer Haven River & the Intracoastal Waterway.
Downstairs you have an outdoor garden shower (hot/cold)and a small deck looking out over the marsh. ALL VERY PRIVATE! Our custom-built home was made-to-order for 2 self-indulgent adults and is quite exquisite with its indigenous Florida wood accents -- the cypress bar, cherry-wood cabinetry, baseboards, and door framing/rosettes. Although built for 2, it sleeps 4 comfortably (sofa-bed) and up to 7 rather closely (blow-up mattress available). We sometimes use the blow-up mattress just to sleep out under the stars!

My husband and I have rented numerous homes via VRBO, this by far was the most relaxing place we have stayed. We are building a home in the area and wanted to stay the weekend to get familiar with our soon to be new hometown. We surprised ourselves and hardly left the property! We enjoyed the beaches during the morning but always came back to the home to relax. We bbq'd each night and enjoyed breakfast on the deck each morning. We were lucky enough to be there for the full moon. Watching the moon rise/set in coordiation with the sun set/rise from the widows walk was amazing.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

The second we saw this house on the internet, we knew we wanted to rent it. We used all the great features of the house. We watched stars from the deck, cuddled on the side porch, had fun in the outdoor shower and played with the kitties. The different beaches, state parks and St Augustine itself have captured our hearts. We know we will be coming back again and cannot imagine being here and not being at this wonderful house. Thank you so much for letting us rent your home.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

The house was just as advertised. Very comfortable and roomy. Just right for a couple. We found lots to do in the area. Lots of historical things in St Augustine and plenty of golf courses and restaurants. Just what we were looking for. We may return next year to do the things we didn't have time for.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I rented this house for several days and were delighted with it. The views from the widow's peak were great and the wrap-around deck was superb for relaxing and enjoying the Florida weather. One of our favorite features was the garden shower! The bed is very comfortable and the layout of the house with all the windows and sliding doors is great. The owner is very friendly and gave us a great tour of the area. We would definitely recommend this place and plan to go back again next year.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our time at Turtle Pen was very relaxing. The home was very clean and comfortable. I felt very safe there, which can be an issue in many locations! The beaches near the home were absolutely gorgeous! The homeowners where easy to work with and extremely flexible. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, the best I have slept in a LONG time!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

About the owner: We, my husband & myself, are 50'ish & love staying in our own home. We stay in it as much as possible. We built this house in 2003 & have thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband is an avid fisherman, oyster-gatherer, clammer, & surfer.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We built our house primarily for ourselves. It had been a dream of my husband to live in this area since he was a teenager & began surfing.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our house is a comfortable, working beach house. We have bikes, surfboard, fishing poles. The living area is very open & warm.
