Camden house description
This classic two-story Cape Cod charmer overlooking a babbling brook is your exquisitely maintained gateway to the village of Camden (established c. 1769). From the luxury of this elegantly-appointed retreat, surrounded by English gardens, you can hike up the street, step through a secret entry to Camden Hills State Park where well-marked hiking trails will lead you to the top of Mount Battie -- at 1,350 feet, a wonderful perch from which to look out across glittering Penobscot Bay toward Blue Hill, Islesboro and beyond.
Or stroll five minutes to Camden's well-known deep-water harbor and enjoy a day sail (or even just a couple of hours!) on one of the elegant antique schooners and windjammers moored there from mid-May to late October. If you're a land-lover, drive 15-minutes to the Farnsworth Museum and Wyeth Cultural Center in nearby Rockland, where you'll be dazzled by paintings and sculpture of three generations of the local Wyeth family of artists (Nathaniel, Andrew and Jamie are all here)as are works by such luminaries as Robert Indiana, Alex Katz and Louise Nevelson -- all American Masters with ties to mid-coast Maine!
You cannot fail to be impressed by the range and caliber of the local restaurant scene -- from James Beard award-winners to FOOD network regulars, you'll find fine food from great chefs to suit all tastes available in our village and in nearby Rockport and Rockland (all within 20-minutes drive time).
This quiet Camden village retreat offers something for everyone -- from Mountains to the Shining Sea!

About the owner: We are blessed to be retired and to have properties in Florida, New York City and Camden, Maine. We learned an important lesson when we first moved to Camden -- No one who is here HAS to be here - everyone here WANTS to be here -- and that's the way people treat Camden. It's an exquisitely maintained village where life marches to a slightly slower drummer -- and where we find we can recharge our batteries. We have put heart and soul into our property -- and we hope you'll enjoy visiting us soon here in Camden!
Why the Owner Chose Camden:
We looked for many months before we settled on this particular property. It has both access to mountain vistas and trail hikes and it's a brief jaunt to the deepwater Camden Harbor with its signature waterfalls -- AND to its schooners, windjammers and tall ships. The cosmopolitan vibe in Camden is real -- this village is much bigger at heart than in appears to be to first-timers. We fell in love with this property with its site next to a running brook. When we re-claimed its English cutting gardens, we gained lovely honey-scented evenings from May to November!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We think the access to award-winning fine dining -- as well as just regular seafood fare-- makes Camden's restaurant scene unusually exciting. Visitors can dine out every night and have great meals and never go to the same restaurant twice in a week. Also, the 19th-century Camden Opera House is the venue for constant summer music and theater entertainment, and the Bayview Concert Series offers American and Canadian master performers all year. Come experience this cultural Mecca on mid-coast Maine!
