Elegant Beachhouse & Tropical Garden Right on a Pacific Beach

A exquisite property located on a private road NOT part of a development or multi-home estate. Privacy is important to us. A traditional house entirely remodeled, new roof, new tiles, new floors, new walls, bathrooms and efficient air conditioning--situated in an exquisite tropical garden and lawn with palm trees and a giant panama tree, about 170 by 250 feet in surface-area, with many tropical birds, and an occasional iguana strolling across the lawn. All the rooms with great window-doors views and the kitchen as well look out onto the ocean; the beach in front of us -almost a mile!--is empty much of the time, ie almost private, and accessible through our beach-gate and a 10 steps down.. The property is maintained twice weekly by a highly trustworthy couple. Extra cleaning can be arranged.
We have installed a deep well so that house and garden are supplied with fresh water and not dependent on town supply pipes --which have supply problems. All appliances are only a couple of years old. Wireless is excellent.
Any correspondence regarding rental must take place through our listed email address for your own security!

This is a BEACH HOUSE you'll not want to pass up. This house is so very open to the sea and the sounds of the pounding surf. A stairway from the yard leads you to treasures of sea shells, surfers and peaceful tide pools. When the beach gets too hot, a very clean swimming pool awaits you!! A very private setting, protected on all sides with fence and folage. The gardens are gorgeous. All the amenities of home can be found here. The grocery in Coronado will yeild any groceries/beverages a heart could wish for. There is a Taxi service for those without a car. The hammock calls your name in the lazy afternoon sun. There always seemed to be a breeze and there was not ONE BUG that bothered us. We did have a friendly CRAB that visited us on occasion. A great location for a quick visit to El Valle de Anton and the awesome Artisian Market there on Sundays. I will be returning next year!!! There are two surf schools nearby. Watching the surfers was a bonus!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was a pleasure to hear how much you enjoyed your stay. Our caretakers said your group were a delight to work for.

We had a wonderful stay at the Playa El Palmar beach house and would highly recommended it to others seeking some serious down time. Facing the ocean, we fell asleep each night with the sound of the waves rolling in and out. The openness of the place and abundant wild life made you feel like you were living in an exotic beach hut. Everything was to our expectations including the location (right on the beach) and actual appearance of the property as reflected in the website images. It was well maintained by a staff of two who came twice a week. The full functioning kitchen allowed us to cook many of our meals and save a great deal of money, despite the fact there were three restaurants within walking distance that served desayuno, almuerzo, and cena. El Palmar is a surfing beach and if you like to surf or watch surfing this is the beach to visit on the weekends. During the week, we had the beach all to ourselves and enjoyed early morning and late night beach walks without a soul in sight. Great stay and we hope to return in the future.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My husband is a surfer so. This house was a great central location to a bunch of breaks. Also we went with our one year old and we had all the comforts of home. We were able to hang out by the pool while she napped and enjoyed the beach all day. We could also fish out front in the evening when the tide came up and catch little catfish. We had a great time and the house gave us an opportunity to explore the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for five days and had a wonderful time. The house was clean, modern and exactly as shown in the photos. The beach was nearly private during the weekdays, busy on the weekends and great for surfing and sunbathing. There was a nearby beach where fishmen came and went, allowing you to purchase fresh fish for dinner. We barbequed nearly everynight. There is a grocery store and a few resturants in the area. The house is huge and would be great for a larger group or family. The owners of the property were very responsive to emails and questions, and even called us while we were at the house to help with some directions.Did you find this review helpful? We just left this beautiful house early this morning after staying a week in Panama. We had three teenagers with us who spent their days at the surf school next door as well as body surfing and relaxing in the pool overlooking the beach. That left my husband and I time to read, sunbathe, relax, and enjoy this peaceful property. Playa Palmar is an easy location to use as a launch point to explore Panama City, the Canal, and National parks like Gamboa and snorkeling sites like Portabello. There is easy access to groceries, pharmacies, healthcare and shopping in nearby San Carlo and Coronado. Our laptops worked perfectly and I had a great time reading the owner's book about her life in Europe in the sixties (and to present) and the impact of the art world on modern culture in those years. The owners called us several times to be sure everything was going smoothly for us. The caretakers Ricardo and Pola helped us out out with figuring out the satellite TV and finding bandages and medicines when my son got a pretty good cut while surfing. They kept the property up beautifully. I would definitely recommend this property to just about anyone looking to explore Panama and enjoy and peaceful relaxing vacation. We hope to return soon to continue to explore Panama's beauty. Thank you for a great vacation.Owner response: Thanks for the great review - it makes us very happy when our guests enjoy the property as much as we do.

The week we spent at this beautiful place was wonderful for the entire family! The children loved splashing in the pool at the edge of the ocean, they also took surfing lessons in the ocean right in front of the house- but I think the most memorable moments for my husband and myself were in the evening sitting in your gazebo drinking a glass of wine with the ocean below our feet at high tide watching the sunset! We loved the privacy of the place, no traffic and practically nobody except ourselves swimming in the ocean- then grilling dinner for the family on the barbecue and eating in the open terrace dining-room, flowers blooming in the garden.. Thank you for a perfect vacation!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family of 5 has stayed at this beautiful home twice once in September of 2008 for 8 days and our most recent trip for a month from the end of March to the end of April 2011. First I must say that Alain and Karen (the owners) are very honest people. La Gaviota is private yet close to town for shopping and services. The beach is mostly private all week as most Panamanians only beach on the weekends. We love the open kitchen and on-suite baths in all three bedrooms. Flor the caretaker is always helpful and accommodating. The housekeeper is cheerful, good and honest ( We never worried about leaving valubles in the house). The grounds are beautifully maintained by the groundskeeper who was thoughtful of our children and even opened coconuts for all of us.Overall this is truly a wonderful place to stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The property was an excellent retreat for our family to unplug and get back to nature. The home and grounds are impeccably maintained. The airy layout of the home invites ocean breezes. The home is steps from (on) the beach and is the perfect location for surfing, kayaking, lounging and exploring the nearby tidal pools. Fall asleep to to the sounds of the ocean and wake up with a morning surf session or swim. The location and property are a tropical paradise. The home is located on a private lane that ends 2 houses past this property so there is no through traffic. There is also ample parking on the property if you have more than one vehicle. The caretaker's name is Flor. She is very friendly, helpful and attentive. She runs a surf camp next door. Overall we had a tremendous vacation and we will be returning in the coming months.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: I am a writer/artist, from New York. My wife and I come here just 3-4 months a year, take excellent care of the property year-round. Every season we are here my wife plants more flowers and shrubs and with the help of our professional gardener it has become an exquisite place to stay.
Why the Owner Chose Playa El Palmar:
Peace, swimming in wonderfully warm (but not too warm!) water, perfect (dry! almost mosquito-free!) weather, none of the storms and hurricanes you get in other parts of Central America, unbelievable view (you have to see it to believe it! the entire ocean and cliffs on each side), a friendly people and very safe area.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We buy fish at a fishermen's beach--when the fishermen come up from their boats, buying directly from the fishermen-- five minutes drive from our home, a local brings us shrimp and lobster; we have mango trees on the property. We have peace and pure pure air.
