Wood Cliff Cabin is a secluded four-season retreat, a small hand-built haven providing luxurious beauty and alternative energy, perched on a cliff, 80' above a mountain stream. One room convenience includes a queen loft bed, fully equipped kitchen, deck and plenty of storage. In the adjacent bath house you will find the sauna, shower and composting toilet. Beautiful details complement the treetop views, including the 80’ cliff overlooking our mountain creek. Your host built this unique cabin in 2009, using ten different woods, with forest-honoring window friezes, custom metalwork and local stone.
The cabin is a five minute walk from your car. We will deliver you and your luggage to the site in our Kubota utility vehicle, which you may use during your stay. Once you arrive, we will introduce you to the energy systems. 12-volt batteries supply power for LED lighting, stereo, a ceiling fan, as well as cell phone and laptop charging. Propane runs the refrigerator, cook stove, a wall heater, a Weber grill on the deck, and additional lighting. A lovely woodstove provides warmth and charm. Our delicious well water is gravity-fed to the cabin and bath house.
We welcome travelling contemplatives, romantics, naturalists and artists to our hermitage.
When you are seeking restoration that uninterrupted time offers, come to our quiet retreat and become one with the forest.
Experience conscious consumption and focused attention to details. Enjoy the heightened awareness that only solitude brings.
Give yourself a solo or couple vacation devoted to recovering peace and joy. Slow down to the rhythm of nature and your own pace.

My husband and I spent a weekend at Wolf Cliff Cabin in mid-July 2012. The setting is beyond fabulous and the pictures do not do it justice, especially the exquisite woodworking. It has all the amenities of home, without the distraction of TV, phones, and computers. Cooked all of our meals on the outdoor grill, took a dip in the creek below the cabin, and spent the entire weekend reading, resting, and relaxing. On one hand, we were sorry to have to go back home, but glad because we knew we'd be back. Far enough to feel secluded, and close enough to feel safe, this cabin is an absolute gem. Even in the dogs days of summer, the cabin remained cool and comfortable. The out/shower house took some getting used to, but gives you a good slap of reality. Even though we didn't use it, having the Kubota on hand added an extra bit of security. I have recommended the cabin to several people, and cannot stop singing it's praises!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at the cabin. A unique experience, and it began with Michael letting my boyfriend drive the Kubota vehicle down a wooded path to the cabin. The property was clean and well maintained, and turned out to be a nice get away for nature lovers. We had fun heating the cabin with the wood burning stove, and making the fire that heated the sauna. We enjoyed cooking, reading, and conversation. A short walk down the hill, there was a beautiful creek. It was nice to get away from the city to recharge and reconnect with nature. A short walk down the hill, there was a beautiful creek. The town of Lewisburg is not far away, and there are restaurants, a movie theater, and small shops. We hope to return and check out the state park that is close by. Thanks Michael and Nancy!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend away here in January. Snow on the ground and enough rain to excuse our hunkering down to relax, read, listen to music, cook, tend the wood stove, and do the first jigsaw puzzle of our 13-year marriage. The cabin is beautifully made, organized, and decorated...and is very comfortable! While we didn't take advantage of the sauna (this time), we'll definitely be back! There's a swimming hole down in the ravine that looks worth investigating in summer! Many thanks to Mike and Nancy!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I found Mike's and Nancy's cabin one night while daydreaming of a getaway and surfing VRBO. The pictures captured my imagination and Mike was friendly and quick to respond to my inquiry. ISo I came all the way from Colorado to stay for a week. My goals were to spend some time alone, to relax and recharge, and to get a taste of tiny house living and doing without so much "stuff." My stay at the cabin was exactly what I needed. The space is expertly laid out and the perfect size for 1 (or probably 2). I enjoyed the abundant trees, sounds of the creek, and endless quiet time to read, write, work a puzzle, or just "be." The cabin is not far from Lewisburg, so I easily made a couple of day trips to shop and see the area. Mike was welcoming and promptly took me back to the cabin, showed me around, and left me with my privacy for the rest of my stay. The cabin was clean and colorful, and I can't tell you how many times I just sat and admired the wood work. Super comfy pillows! It's an excellent place to unplug from reality and reconnect with yourself. The cabin is a unique and special place. Enjoy!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

So I read the other reviews before booking the cabin and they were dead on. Everything that you needed was provided. If your looking for a weekend away from normal life, try WoodCliff cabin! It was really cozy with the wood burning fireplace. Michael was very nice and gave us good advice on a meat market. A candle lit dinner was perfect for my wife and I. If you enjoy a break from modern technology then it is great! The only caveat I would offer is the "out house." For as modern and convienant as the cabin was, the out house is a bit more primitive with a "flushless" toilet. It was a step up from the toilets we had in Iraq, but just as odorous. If you or your significant other is a particularly "high maintainance" this cabin is not the Holiday Inn, however it offers peace and tranquility that NO hotel could ever offer! Thanks again Michael for your craftsmanship!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful weekend. The cabin is incredible. The pictures do not do it justice. This was beyond our expectations. The craftsmanship of this cabin is exceptional with attention given to each and every detail. The artwork and window paintings were beautiful. If you are a nature lover and are looking for an escape from the "rat race" you will most certainly find peace, quiet, and comfort in this wonderful place. We look forward to returning to this cabin soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

This was our second time staying at Wood Cliff Cabin. The first time we decided to stay was during New Years Eve for a romantic getaway. Michael met us and drove us down our secluded pathway to our small retreat. He was a gracious host. At once we were struck by the beautiful craftmanship and the attention to details in both the cabin and the sauna (amazing kitchen countertop, beautiful stained glass windows, amazing deck overlooking the cliff, and awesome lofted bed.) We are nature lovers, so we were pleased to see ourselves completely immersed in the elements with nothing around but peace and quiet. The lofted bed is situated by windows that you will end up leaving open the entire time you are there. How could you not? Even in winter, the fresh air and falling snow lulled us to sleep. The shower took a little bit of work in the winter, but wasn't a big deal once you got used to it (The water has to be heated and pumped by hand in the winter, Michael explained.) The sauna was fantastic and relaxing. At night we enjoyed card games and wine by gas light, and listened to music. We decided that we loved our experience so much that we would return in the summer to experience the change of season. Sure enough, it was like returning home with new scenery. The shower was running on electric (woo hoo!) and this time we took many walks down to the gushing stream and read books on the chairs Michael set up on the mossy banks. The windows remained open again, even when there was an amazing thunderstorm one night, and this time our card games were played outside on the deck with our glass of wine. It was, as we expected, relaxing, inviting, and serendipitous. Staying here makes you mindful of nature. The cabin is run on batteries. There are adapter outlets that allow you to charge your phone and whatnot, but you realize how much you take for granted when you stay here. We are so used to having things so accessible in our houses and whatever we want at our fingertips, that staying here makes you conscious of the decisions you make in life on how much you use, how much you consume, and thus how much you waste. Being here renews a sense of purpose that we do not need much in life to enjoy it. Michael and Nancy have created this perfectly spaced oasis that works with nature and allows us the peace we need to restore our spirit. Staying here is not just a fun getaway, but a retreat for the body and mind. Thanks to these two for creating an amazing place.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I surprised my wife with a stay at Woodcliff Cabin as a two year anniversary get-away weekend. There is so much that can be said about this cabin (all of the reviews are correct). Michael is an exquisite craftsman, meticulously detailed, yet the cabin is profound in it's simplicity. Nancy is a talented and imaginative artist - the cabin they've created is a work of art, one of a kind. And they are such gracious hosts to boot! They gave us wonderful recommendations for hiking with our dog (we highly recommend the Molasses Gap hike, or as we now refer to it, the Enchancted Forest). Two nights during our stay we went into Lewisburg for dinner, and they offered to let our dog stay with them while we were gone. Tips: throughout our stay we learned that Michael and Nancy truly had thought of everything. A couple of times we thought to ourselves, wouldn't it be nice if there was a [fill in the blank].... and there always was. The only thing I wish I had brought was a CD to leave in the eclectic collection, which I assume has been built over time by visitors and the hosts themselves. Our favorite thing about the cabin? Waking up each morning in the loft bed, and seeing the beauty of nature in every direction... then getting up and making a cup of coffee to enjoy on the deck.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My Husband Steve and I celebrated our anniversary at the cabin. We are from the area, but when Nancy drove us back the stone road to the cabin it felt as if we were miles away. The cabin was perfect, and we enjoyed the special time together cooking and playing scrabble on the deck. We awoke in the morning to the sound of the run below us and the sun shining in the windows. It was a wonderful escape and we highly recommend it for a getaway together.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

My boyfriend and I spent a lovely long weekend at the cabin. Michael and Nancy were so welcoming and the cabin was beautiful. We really enjoyed getting away from city living to relax in the woods. We went for a great hike along a ridge in the nearby state park and Michael and Nancy loaned us their Scrabble set to fill the quiet nights. It was a lovely place run by lovely people and we hope to return soon. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: Mike is a professional cabinet and furniture maker. He built the entire cabin as if it were a cabinet and furnished the interior with his own work. Nancy is a calligrapher and artist, and her work adorns the inside of the cabin as well. Our house is five minutes from the cabin, so we are generally available to assist you in any way necessary.
Why the Owner Chose Lewisburg:
Mike and Nancy have been dreaming of building a small cabin and sauna on this property since 1989. In 2005 Mike built the wood-fired sauna which now also houses the shower and toilet for the adjacent cabin, which was completed in the Spring of 2010. The property is ideally situated, minutes from the Bald Eagle State Forest in one direction and the historic town of Lewisburg, 15 minutes in the other direction.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Listen to the quiet music of the creek, the soft song of the wind in the trees, the welcome interruptions of birds’ many calls. Smell the clean forest air, fragrant pines, pennyroyal or even skunk cabbage! Enjoy the rich mossy forest floor and cozy wood fires. Observe the play of light, constantly changing. Sun rises late to wake you in the loft bed, then sparkles on the water and projects surprise animations and shadows all around the cabin before setting over the deck. Your fresh meals grilled out on the deck or enjoyed inside wake up your taste buds. Perhaps you’ll try a wintergreen berry? Our pure clean well water is truly delicious. Wade in the shallow creek and dunk in the deeper pools. Play with clay from the banks, hug those trees, and touch the stones, bones and cones you will find. In Winter, fire-up the sauna and experience the refreshing feeling.
