Location: Twisp, Washington State, USA (Methow Valley, North Cascades - Near Twisp)

Accommodations:  House, 10 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 6 Baths (Sleeps 27)

The place to go to get away from it all....Situated in the renowned Methow Valley (foothills of the North Cascade Mountains), this private retreat is nestled in a secluded basin all its own, at the end of the road. The property's 160 acres is surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest wildlands, with the nearest private property over a mile away. (The meadow in the photo below is larger than it looks - about a half-mile long!)

The Non-Smoking Lodge features a charming, rustic wood interior with a handsome rock fireplace. Recently remodeled, it now boasts a radiant heat floor covered with beautiful bamboo flooring. The deep, covered porch catches a breeze on hot summer days, and is a great place to sit and relax. The cathedral ceiling and skylights in the 800 square foot living room provide an inspiring atmosphere for rest and renewal. There is ample space for family and friends, but it is also a cozy setting for a quiet romantic get-away.

There are three bedrooms in the Lodge, and 6 bedrooms with twin beds (can be pushed together to make king-size) in the new passive-solar Bermhouse. There are three full bathrooms in the Lodge (two with entries from the porch so you don't have to go in the Lodge), and three half-bathrooms in the Bermhouse. We only rent to one group at a time, so you always have the whole place to yourself!

The wood-fired sauna offers a great way to recover from a day of hiking or skiing. Our two tents (small party tent seats 25 people, large sky-lodge tent seats 200) offer additional space in summer, making it a perfect place for a picturesque wedding or a fun-filled family reunion.

Hikes right from your door take in views of snow-capped peaks, and private groomed ski trails wind through the property in winter. There are numerous slopes to choose from for back-country skiing, snowboarding or sledding. Nearby is the friendly Loup Loup downhill ski area, and the beautiful Methow River offers prime whitewater rafting. Springtime brings a magic carpet of wildflowers covering the land. Choose from several local swimming holes for cooling off in the summer.

The town of Twisp offers live theater and a thriving Farmer's Market in the summer, music throughout the year, an art gallery, restaurants, and more. Located on the sunny side of Washington State, close to mountain lakes and whitewater rivers, recreational opportunities abound.

Our guests appreciate the silence this property has to offer. They say that although many places say they offer seclusion, this is the only place that really delivers. We have also been told that the photos don't really capture the place, it usually exceeds peoples' expectations!

Note: Caretakers live on the property, around the corner from the main house. They are well-practiced at being invisible, and it is their objective that you have a very quiet and peaceful stay!

    • We brought six women up here to use Skalitude as a base for a vision quest. It is a place of stunning natural beauty and the sensitivity that the owners bring to its management is in perfect keeping with the solitude and quiet of the valley and mountains.

Three sisters, one sister-in-law and one lone husband spent five glorious days at Skalitude. Wide open spaces, blue skies, fresh snow and superb lodging made for a better trip than we could hope for! Rush hour at Skalitude = x-county skiier, four deer, two dogs, a bald eagle and a wild turkey. Thank you for being such wonderful hosts and entrusting your little piece of utopia to us! (our dogs thank you too!) Your hospitality and stewardship has made this a truly unique and memorable trip.

    • Thank-you for being so gracious and easy going. It made things very nice for us to be able to use the cabin to gather in and have the separate bedroom areas for young kids and there parents. It was also nice for me to be able to pull my RV up close to the cabin and have a nice level area to park. Being close was enjoyable because it seemed we were in and out of it a lot. We really enjoyed our stay and I do hope our family can enjoy your beautiful property again. I also wanted to thank-you for allowing us to leave basically at our leisure. We enjoyed having the extra time, it made it a lot less stressful for us. Teenagers and babies can sometimes be a crazy combination! Thanks again for your hospitality

    • My husband and I recently got married at Skalitude, and everything about our event was simply perfect. Skalitude itself and the surrounding area are absolutely gorgeous, the facilities are comfortable and tasteful, and Lindsey and Will were a huge help. They made excellent recommendations, and coordinated with our caterer and local rental providers to take care of everything from tables and chairs to flatware and many other needs. Their relaxed and competent approach helped us get everything organized without a lot of stress, and left us free to enjoy our time with friends and family. Although there are many options of places to get married in the Methow, we appreciated that Skalitude does not only cater to weddings, thus making it more unique and less expensive, and it still had all the accommodations we needed. Our event felt special and personal, and all of our guests were amazed at the beauty of the setting. Skalitude is great for a range of occasions, big or small. We can't wait to go back again! Two thumbs up, five stars, perfect!

    • We had a family reunion here and everyone absolutely LOVED this place! Some of us have stayed other places, but none compared to this little piece of heaven. The quiet and peaceful surroundings made this one of the most enjoyable getaways I have ever had. The accommodations are very comfortable, I slept great! We will most definitely be coming back here! Thanks Lindsey for your kind hospitality!! Barb & family

Our 3rd year of searching and finding dog friendly adventures between Washington and California and by far the favorite. You could have kept this beautiful place to yourself and yet you are kind enough to share it with all of us. For that I 9we) thank you so very much. The home, the land and all its peacefulness were such a fun treat to celebrate my dad's 60th B-day. Now I shall look forward to happy returns! Sadie, Jack and baby Jackson from Arcata CA. We had a wonderful long weekend enjoying the solitude and the magic of this special spot. We skied the meadow and hiked up the mountain for a spectacular view of the valley. Riley the wonder poodle is going home well worn and dreaming of the snow. Thank you Lindsey for sharing Skalitude. Jenny, Jason and Riley
