My wife and I spent a week at Heaven's Gate to celebrate the future arrival of our first child. It couldn't have been a more relaxing time. The cabin is secluded and has expansive views comparable to pictures on a post card. The master bedroom was great with its own fireplace. The cabin itself was immaculate. We would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to have a true getaway. The hardest part was convincing my wife to leave:) We plan on making this cabin a future winter "hub" for our growing family.Recommended for: Romantic getaway

"Heaven's Gate" is an exceptional property and this was our 5th stay here. The view is unsurpassed and we like to listen for the Smoky Mountain Railroad whistle as the train passes through the valley below four times a day. Sunrises and sunsets are particularly breathtaking. We appreciate having all the living space on one level. The cabin is always spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. We would recommend this property to anyone for whom two bedrooms and two baths is the right space. Good restaurants in the area: River's End at the Nantahala Outdoor Center and Pasqualino's in downtown Bryson City. Favorite hike: Deep Creek Campground and Falls on the Tuckasegee River (follow the signs behind the train station in Bryson City).Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at Heaven's Gate was absolutely wonderful. The cabin was beautiful, peaceful, remarkably well equipped and very clean. The views are great and the fire pit was delightful. We sat and played music by the fire in the evenings...completely relaxing. We came for our 1-year anniversary. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. We would love to have stayed there forever to wake up to the beautiful mountains and wind down to the gorgeous sunsets every day. Aside from the amazing cabin, Bryson City is a splendid, quaint town with some of the nicest people you could meet. We would definitely return to Bryson City and would love to stay at Heaven's Gate again. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true mountain retreat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We recently spent 7 nights at Heaven's Gate. We have rented many vacation homes over the years and Heaven's Gate rates right up there at the top. The cabin itself was beautiful, immaculate, and well stocked with everything we needed and many extras. We spent the majority of the time out on the huge covered deck. The privacy and seclusion was perfect, although all the attractions and things we wanted to do were a short drive away. Then there is the view from the deck....indescribable. As it is in the Smokies, the clouds are such that the view is ever-changing. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular, so much that we made sure we were back at the cabin every evening for dinner on the deck. Also, the Coxes made the transaction very easy and comfortable. No doubt we will return here again as we felt completely at home in this mountain hideaway. Thanks very much Steve! We absolutey loved our stay at "Heavens Gate", the views were absolutely breathtaking, The cabin was so clean and well equipped for anything to make your stay enjoyable, We loved the huge deck looking out over the Great Smokey Mountains towards Fontana Lake. We have stayed in several mountain cabins over the past few years and this one ranks up at the top of our list and hope to return for another stay. This cabin truly is a gem! What a perfect home away from home. Well equipped and comfortable. Incredible views of the Smokies that roll on for miles! Dusk around the firepit with the cool mountain breeze was a nightly treat for us. Keep in mind that the cabin faces westward, which means sunsets..serious sunsets! The deck is huge, there is covered parking. Loved it. What a memorable time to spend with our 4 yr old daughter, wide eyed with each wild blackberry or dandelion that she found! I can't imagine a better a better place to enjoy time with your family..Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I expected the place to be great just from the pictures, but when my husband and I walked in we both said WOW! The view is truly amazing and you feel you are on top of the world. Very close to town but you would not know it. It's peaceful and secluded. I would echo another commenter by saying that your first time up the mountain should be done in the daylight with 4WD. But, once you do the drive the first time, it's easy. I very rarely repeat vacation destinations, but I feel this will be a repeat in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a marvelous time at Heaven's Gate. As the ad says 'Spectacular Mountain View' was no joke! The view was magificant! The accomodations of Heaven's Gate could not of been better, clean, spacious and downright homey! We would recommend this rental to everyone wanting a quiet getaway!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We enjoyed a week-long stay at Heaven's Gate in the middle part of September. On arrival it was obvious that the property had been quite accurately represented: The cabin was very clean, well maintained, and nicely equipped. We had no difficulty finding our way up the mountain and found the route itself scenic and fun by itself. The view from the deck was stellar: We made a point to not miss a sunset and it was a wonderful way to cap each day. We enjoyed the wildlife including many songbirds, turkeys, raccoons, and inquisitive squirrels. It was a pleasure to return from our hikes in the Smokies each day and relax at this wonderful retreat. We would gladly return to Heaven's Gate ourselves and recommend it to anyone looking for mountain (and valley!) scenery from a comfortable and well outfitted cabin.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at Heaven's Gate exceeded all of our expectations! And, the view is all that was advertised & more! We have stayed at many cabins in NC & all have been nice, but Heaven's Gate has the best view by far! It would be difficult to find a long-range view that surpasses. It goes without saying that the retreat was nicely furnished, super clean, & comfortable. Everything we could need was provided & even the windows were spotless - a must for enjoying this bit of mountain paradise! The owners really care about the experience of their guests as evidenced by their phone call the day of our arrival to check to see we needed anything & to remind us to call them if they could be of any assistance. If the view doesn't keep you busy all day, Bryson City has great area attractions. Plus, the cabin is so close to the grocery, downtown, & area restaurants. Heaven on Earth!!! Thank you, Steve & Susie, for sharing your beautiful piece of heaven with us! Hope to return soon! This cabin is everything the owner says it is and more! We could not believe the views from the front deck, the amenities inside, even the wi-fi works great! Couldn't ask for anything more. Only suggestion is make sure you have a good vehicle to get up the hills as there are four switchbacks and it is all gravel road -- a four wheel drive vehicle would be best. We would love to come back in the fall to see the colors......I have never been disappointed with VRBO.....Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our second time here. The view and cabin are both excellent.The most relaxing 2 weeks we have spent anywhere, bar none! The location is very private with easy access to Bryson City, the National Park, Cherokee, etc. Having breakfast on the deck with a view that can't be matched is priceless! The view is great from anywhere in the cabin.Our favorite is the view first thing in the morning, the clouds below us with just the mountain peaks visible! The cabin is clean and well maintained. The owner is friendly and helpful. There are many good places to eat in Bryson City.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed Aug16-19 at Heavens's Gate. Due to the fabulous view off the deck we ate breakfast there every morning and viewed the sunset every night. The view is as advertised. The Cabin is nicely furnished and very inviting. It is centrally located to the things we enjoy doing (gem mining, rafting and driving the Blue Ridge Parkway and just relaxing). We will definitely being staying there next year when we go to the smokies if it is available.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Heaven's Gate looked exactly as it does in the photos. It's cute and decorated in a bear and moose mountain theme. The house was clean, well-equipped and obviously well-maintained. The best part is the huge deck that faces W/NW. The view is absolutely stunning! There are rockers, a picnic table, a swing and a game table out there and that is where we spent almost every minute of our waking time while at the house. Since the house is on a ridge, we were able to see thunderstorms way off in the distance, we watched clouds float beneath us, and the sunsets were all unique and epic. On clear nights we could see lots of stars. There's lots to do nearby, too. We hiked the Appalachian Trail, saw three waterfalls, intertubed, ziplined, gem mined, had picnics, and we visited several interesting historical sites in the area, (Cherokee, the Nantahala outdoor center and Bryson City are all nearby.) The trip was very relaxing and fun. The only negative would just be the challenging drive up to the house. The road is gravel, one lane wide, steep in parts, and there are three switchbacks. After driving it a couple times, it got easier, but I HIGHLY recommend arriving in daylight the first time. I doubt you could get views like that without driving up a mountain, and it certainly is worth the effort. All-in-all, I think "Heaven's Gate" is terrific and we plan to go back as soon as we can!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Heaven's Gate is exactly as described and more! The pictures are true to the views and the cabin. The views are magnificent! The house was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The kitchen has everything that you need to prepare meals or just snacks. We had a great time sitting on the porch reading and looking at the mountains. The fire pit was a fun experience! We enjoyed roasting marshmallows while star gazing and listeing to the night creatures. We visited Bryson City on Saturday. We had a great Cuban sandwich at The Filling Station sandwich shop. We also had a good meal at The Station Restaurant that evening. The coffehouse The Cork and Bean was a nice place to end the evening. We have rented from several other owners thru VRBO, but none compare to Steve and Susie. Steve and Susie were very helpful and quick to answer our questions about Heaven's Gate. I would recommend this property to any one who wants to spend time relaxing while being very close to activities. My husband and I plan to return to Heaven's Gate to go white water rafting/tubing, to go to Cherokee to see the play "Unto These Hills" (about the Cherokee nation), and to take the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad trip.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
