Spotless when we got there. Linens provided was a big plus. The muffins and fresh fruit was much appreciated and very warm welcome. The only complaint would be that the futons were not very comfortable to sit on and difficult to get out of. Everything else was wonderful. Manager, Leland is very nice and accommodating. Would not hesitate to stay again!

Thanks for this amazing and artistic cottage. One of the high points of our stay was sitting with you on the redwood rooftop deck overlooking the panoramic view of the ocean and river while having hot tea and scones. The sunset was awesome, and so was the conversation. what fun! We will return!

Owner response: Dear Beth We enjoyed having you here and look forward to seeing you again. Thanks for being the perfect guest!

Home was cute, bright (too bright) and manager very nice and helpful. We had several issues. The DVD player didn't work, The "queen " futons are not futons. They are very thin, extremely uncomfortable pads that are laid on wicker board couches, so do not expect to sleep 6 unless you pull the pads onto the floor. The kitchen supplies are extremely limited, so not adequate to cook meals and many items not there that are on inventory list. Also it is right on hiway 101, lots of traffic, and inside/beside a run down trailer/RV park. And there is NO ocean or river veiw. You can walk to the river through the RV park and see the ocean but not get to the ocean from there. It is close to Brookings, so plenty of beach to see there. I would not return here, but if you're one couple looking for close proximity to the area it would be OK.

Owner response: This review was written by a disgruntled guest who caused damage to the property; left it in very unclean condion; and then demanded a refund of their cleaning deposit, or a negative review would be concocted. Since no refund was provided, she decided to do some fabrication and lying. Her review is filled with falsehoods. 1. The DVD player does work fine, although a battery had to be replaced in the remote. 2. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans, flatware, knives, a microwave, an oven, a coffee maker, a refridgerator, and much more. 3. There are two futons for extra sleeping space in he livingroom. And yes, they are futons and not "mats", our wicker couches are lovely as shown in our advertisement. they are not wicker "board" couches... lol! 4. The near by Ocean and River are in view from the front porch and livingroom window. 5. The r.v. resort next door is not run down, it is a lovely river front r.v. resort as many regular yearly visitors will attest. 6. You do not need to walk through the r.v.resort to get to the river and ocean. 7. As shown on our mapquest, we are near the Pacific Coast Highway. However, this is not a heavily traffic portion of PCH. There are only two lanes, and the main north-south traffic does not pass by here, it flows up the freeway northward which is Highway 5. This part of the Pacific Coast Highway is the scenic coastal route that follows along the California and Oregon Coast. Traffic is low, not high. There was one true statement in this traveler's review which is the following: It is true that she will not stay here again. We do not welcome folks who use the feedback tool here to try and leverage a refund that is not due.

We stayed a week at The Ocean River Guest House, and received an extra night free, (even though it was in the busy time of the year for them). Very generous and accommodating folks. This was a wonderful week for us of horse back riding along the beach, and beach combing... a week we will never forget. Thanks again!

This was perfect get away for us. We loved the artistry of this little colorful cottage near the sea. Thanks for the muffin basket, gormet coffee and treats for our little Pekinese. We hope to come back again next summer!

My significant other and I loved this little get away place. It was everything that was described and much more! One thing we really loved was the sound of the ocean at night. It was like listening to the earth breathe. Directly behind the Ocean River Guest House is a forested canyon with a babbling brook running through it. We encountered three beautiful elk down there! Sandra and I would hike down there every day to take nature pictures. We also loved to walk along the nearby beach and shoot photos. One day while we were walking along the beach, a seal was swimming along in the same direction and continued with us for about a mile, If felt like it was joining us on our walk! That's what Sandra thought at least.... Our thanks to the kind sweet folks at The Ocean River Guest House. A great place to fall in love, or let love grow.

If you are the artistic type you will love this beautifully decorated, colorful guest house. We had a lot of fun during our visit up to the north coast, and this place was perfect for our needs. With six of us, it would have cost twice as much to stay in a motel. Plus, a motel wouldn't have been so artistic, fun and unique. Also, a motel would not have provided such a great kitchen, livingroom and dining table where we could all gather around and enjoy each other's company. I love getting more for less, and that's what happened here. For us this place was the perfect answer for a memorable vacation. We hope to return next year.

We really loved it there. And the rainbow flower garden out front was beautiful, just like the charming interior of the cottage (also a rainbow!). We will be back again.

We loved our visit to The Ocean River Guest House for our family reunion! We have decided to come back every year, and make this our regular meeting place. We were greeted with fresh ground coffee, a delicious muffin basket, and extensive literature an maps about everything fun in the area. The cottage was spotlessly clean; and a perfect place for us to get together as a family and catch up. This is a beautiful location near the Mouth of The Smith River where it flows out into the ocean. The redwood forest is nearby for great hikes and nature walks. The house is equipped with everything needed, so we could just relax and have a good time. Each morning we would stroll down the lane to the riverfront where it meet with the Pacific Ocean. Hundreds of seals and seal puppies were right there to greet us! We also spent a lot of time at the Clifford Kampf County Park which is about a third of a mile up the road. This park has miles of pristine beahes for hunting agates and driftwood. Often, we had the beach to ourselves! Our thanks to Leland who is a friendly and gracious host.
