Owners are so warm and generous with tips to local hikes, restaurants, maps etc. The place is perfect studio apartment for a couple -- ours was a 50th birthday celebration trip for just husband and wife. The kitchen was great -- especially the icemaker for filling our little cooler and we used the washer and dryer several times. Thanks to owners for having beach chairs and beach towels and extra bath towels for our use. The little book they made up of maps and local kayak companies numbers etc was a sweet touch. Loved catching sunrise every morning from the beach that is just outside the door. We chose this location for proximity to Lanikai beach and found the even closer Kailua Beach Park just as lovely -- same impossibly blue water. We enjoyed driving over to Hanauma Bay one day and driving up to the Pali lookout as well. And the little hike to the pillboxes over Lanikai beach is steep STEEP! but soo worth it. Bring your camera for amazing panoramic views. For dinner, we loved the Thai place and the Crepe place was really delicious (esp the Healthy Alternative crepe with strawberries, bananas, granola, yogurt and honey. Yummo!) We had a great time. This was the perfect place to stay -- has everything you need with the ocean right there and generous hosts who were available when we needed them but we had plenty of privacy as well. 5 nights here at Herb's place. Everything you need, nothing too fancy but the best location in Kailua. Get up and walk out the door, down 50 feet along the side of the house and you are at the beach. Clean, well kept and small refrigerator big enough to keep 3-4 days worth of breakfast fixings, small icemaker that had plenty each morning to fill up our small ice chest we bought. Flat screen TV, wireless internet. Bring your fishing pole as the locals tell me the surf here is great for bone fishing. Hit the Kailua Farmers Market for supper on Thursday nights. Very unobstrusive host in Herb. Sun rises directly over the small islands, no air conditioning but you don't need it with the ceiling fans.

If you are looking for a great place to enjoy the beaches of Kailua this is it. The unit is perfect for a couple and with the futon bed we were able to comfortably accomodate our college aged daughter as well. The beach is just steps away and the back yard area is a great place to relax.Honolulu and the Northshore are only a short drive so you can easily enjoy all the benefits and beauty of Oahu. Herb was a great host and very helpful and cooperative. We will be returning to Kailua and we will hopefully be returning to enjoy Herb's wonderful location. Frank & Trish

We like the freedom, comfort, and convenience of a condo on the ocean. Herb’s beachfront rental was perfect for us. The VRBO website lists all the amenities, but the unit is even better than the photos indicate. Herb’s place is very private. It’s located at the end of a cul de sac and there’s little outside noise, except being lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean. For example, you can get up early in the morning, sit on the back lawn, with a cup of coffee, and get some great shots of beautiful sunrises. From the lawn to the beach is only about 50 yards. You can walk the 2 miles of beach, which is never crowded. You can cook at the rental or go to one of many local restaurants in Kailua and the surrounding area. You can enjoy all your beach activities, just steps from the unit or you can get in your rental car and visit many beautiful places outside the crowded Honolulu area. There are so many things to see and do, that a 4 day stay wasn’t nearly long enough. We plan to stay longer next year, and recommend Herb’s Place as the way to visit Oahu. Thank you Herb and Shari for a wonderful week in your most comfortable abode! I was fortunate to celebrate my 50th birthday in the 50th state and was so pleased it was at your fabulous accommodations! I loved the daily walk or run on the most beautiful beach in Hawaii, just a few steps from the front door, the great restaurants in Kailua, and renting a kayak at the park down the beach which enabled me to see 5 huge sea turtles! Thank you again for a wonderful week, I will definitely be back!!

Herb's place was just what we needed. A comfortable place right on the beach that was nice, but not fancy, so we could relax like we were at home. The Kitchen is small, but very well equipped so we could cook and eat great meals at home. We actually only ate out once. Why go out when you can sit beachside out your door. Herb was a gracious host striking balance between being happy to provide information and checking in on how things were going while being respectful of guest's privacy. The house worked great for traveling with teenage boys because I could let them sleep in while I went right outside the house to swim or read on the beach in the morning. Having Wi-fi was really helpful too. We had a great time and I recommend it as a way to visit Oahu.

My husband and I stayed here for a family wedding in October 2008. We had a wonderful time! The location cannot be beat. We had breakfast oceanside/beach side every morning. We slept peacefully on a good bed in quiet surroundings. Herb was a wonderful host bringing us the maps of the island that we needed and giving us restaurant suggestions. You do not see the ocean from inside, but who cares? You can be on a very private beach within 10 seconds. I have been to Oahu many times and every time I find something new. While we had a romantic get away, there is plenty of room for 3 people. Mahalo, Herb for a vacation to remember! We'll be back.

It was our good fortune to have come accross this opportunity to stay at 20 Pilipu Pl. Our first time renting something other than a hotel room or condo definately not our last! You have created the perfect getaway for folks who need a rest- its truly unforgetable!We managed to unwind and relax.. my best memory will be the sound of waves lulling me to sleep. The Beach House Hideaway is just right and we had a great time. We relaxed on the beach- enjoyed cocktails sitting on the front lawn-- saw a georgeous full moonrise out of the ocean horizon. You have created a very special place for the enjoyment of others. We are happy that we connected and had the opportunity to meet two very talented and kind persons.
