Seaward Cottage is located on the 170 acre property known as Sealedges-an oceanfront private reserve near the quaint lobstering village of Cutler.
There are ocean views from both bedrooms and living areas of this authentic Maine carriage house. The cottage is located on a private road with no public access. Hike for miles on trails along sea ledges offering spectacular seascape views, or walk on woodland paths frequented by grouse, deer and moose. This area is known for its fantastic bird watching. Eagles are seen regularly and puffin tours can be enjoyed out of nearby Cutler Harbor. See seals play in the ocean surf or watch the thick Cutler fog as it rolls in, swallowing the rocky coast and forest tree line.
Picnic at the Puffin Pavilion—the property’s screened porch in the woods. Walk creek side along towering granite cliffs to Cobble Beach. Here you can pick up small granite rocks rolled smooth by ages of storms and tidal surges. The tranquility and privacy of this area is what 'down east' Maine is all about.
Watch as the lobster boats return to Cutler Harbor with their fresh catch of the day. Visit the wharfs down the road to pick up your very own lobster dinner.
If sightseeing is on your agenda there are many day trips of interest around this part of the state. From Bar Harbor to Campobello and points in between, there is always something new to experience by car, kayak or boat tour.
We are sure your visit to Sealedges and Seaward Cottage will be a memorable one.

This was our second year and we are already planning for next year. The perfect place to unwind and relax, or, if you would like-the perfect place to explore and sightsee from. The cottage is beautifully decorated, yet it feels so comfortable and cozy. We love waking up in the morning and looking out at the ocean. The cottage and the property is situated on one of the most beautiful and picturesque coastlines in Maine (and possibly in the Northeast, we think). We find that there is so much to explore even beyond Sealedges, such as the beautiful village of Cutler, then Lubec, Machias, Eastport, and of course, nearby New Brunswick, Canada. What also makes Sealedges so special are the Keepers of the cottage--Julie and Mike Brown. Julie has the cottage spotless for you when you arrive, and she will have her delicious blueberry cake ready for you, along with wonderful yummy cookies that you can munch on all week long--you feel so cared for with all the special touches in the cottage. Mike takes care of the cottage as if it were his own, and he is there on the propery and will help you with anything that you need. They are both very special people that help to make Sealedges the magical place that it is....Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We were expecting our two weeks in Cutler (a favorite vacation spot with us) to be pleasant and peaceful, but it was amazing! Our welcome was unexpectedly warming and joyful. Fresh baked peanut butter cookies, fresh blueberry muffins and lovely welcoming notes from the caretakers, Julie and Mike. The cottage itself feels like a place you could live permanently--it's that comfortable and well-equipped. The water is only a 100 years or less away, and the hikes on the property are as beautiful as any we have found in years of hiking the Maine coast. All right there and with picnic tables at places with beautiful views and a covered pavilion with gas grills and your own little island to explore--accessible at low tide only! We could spend a whole summer here and enjoy every day. All essentials are readily available in Machias--about 15 miles away, with an excellent small super market and very decent wine shop in the village. Heartily recommended!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is an extremely well-kept property(even better than the photos) on beautiful grounds. Caretakers Julie and Mike are attentive, hard-working, and kind. Hiking trails are abundant. We also enjoyed kayaking in Machias Bay, biking the Sunrise Trail, a trip to Campobello Island as well as one to St. Andrews. Would love to go back, hopefully for 2 weeks the next time.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Everything at the Seaward Cottage either met or exceeded all of our expectations. Our family was looking for a nice cottage with a great view of the Maine coast, and for the very reasonable price of this fine home, we could not have made a better choice. The home is a spacious two bedroom cottage that is more than enough room for a family of 4 or 5. The entire property offers many beautiful woodland and coastal hikes that will keep all outdoor lovers occupied for the majority of their stays, but day trips to Campobello Island, St. Andrews, and the wonderful Ganong Chocolate factory in St. Stephens, New Brunswick or Bar Harbor/Acadia are well within exploring distance. Helen's or the Bluebird offer great local dining in nearby Machias and all grocery needs are met at the Hannaford's grocery store. I can't conclude this review without stating that the property (house and Sea Ledges wooded acreage) is meticulously maintained by the husband and wife cottage keepers. I cannot overemphasize just how wonderful and caring this couple is about the guests at the cottage, and they are only a phone call away if you need day trip recommendations or something for your stay. Thank you so much for one of the best vacations our family has ever had!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our week at SeaLedges was perfect! The house, as others have said, is even nicer than the pictures. Comfortable, complete kitchen, very clean, and nicely decorated. Our 10 and 11 year-olds loved combing the tide pools on the rocks, playing badminton, and exploring the trails with us. We enjoyed hiking every trail we could find. We saw an eagle a few times and lots of moose tracks... But no moose. Mike, the property manager, was delightful and always took time to answer our questions when we'd see him out and about. We took day trips to Campobello Island and Eastport. The only disappointment was that one week wasn't long enough!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Our time at Sea Ledges was truly wonderful. We spent two weeks in this beautiful place, which I recommend if you have the time. The cottage is adorable, complete with all the amenities you could need, and is VERY well managed and maintained. The managers live near by and are available if anything is needed. The property itself is completely secluded and is comprised of seemingly endless well-marked and maintained trails through verdant woods and along absolutely spectacular rocky cliffs and coastline. We spent most of our time hiking to find a quiet place to read while the waves crashed below. It was pure heaven. There are only a few restaurants nearby, though within a 30-40 minute drive you can find good options for dining, groceries, and beautiful villages and places to explore. But, plan to cook most meals at the cottage, including lobster you can buy in Cutler Village. In short, if you are looking to completely escape, enjoy the solitude of nature, read, hang a hammock and take a nap by the ocean, enjoy meals cooked at home and enjoyed while watching and listening to the Atlantic, and are comfortable not seeing other people for a while (at least not throngs of people and crowds of tourists!!), Sea Ledges is a perfect bet.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Seaward Cottage in Cutler Maine: just you and 170 acres of private cliffs, trails and ocean...paradise! The cottage was fully equipped and beautifully decorated. When we arrived, we were greeted with homemade cookies, hot chocolate and blueberry cake as well as a lovely welcome note left by Julie and Mike, the wonderful property managers. The scenery was out of this world. One week was simply not enough!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

I really enjoyed my stay at Seaward cottage.I found the pictures accurate but they don't really do the place justice. The reality was way better than the pictures. The cottage is clean and well kept up .The caretakers Mike and Julie check in to make sure every thing is o.k. Real nice people.Great place for hiking or just to be still and unwind.Everything was just great from setting things up with Lisa onward .I would recommend this place highly. I hated to leave it was so nice.I hope to go back next year .Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: We are David and Leslie Winn and we live in Lago Vista, Texas outside of Austin. Our children are Ryan and Natalie, Jonathan, and Hunter. We fell in love with the Sealedges 12 years ago and spend as much time as we can there every summer.
Why the Owner Chose Cutler:
We feel that this is a very special place….a sanctuary in which to feel closer to God and rejoice in the beauty of the world He created for us.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Our favorite time at Sealedges is spent with family and friends hiking the rock ledges, eating lobster at the Puffin Pavilion and star gazing at night. We love the privacy of the property. Long walks up the quiet neighboring roads end at the old pre Civil War Cutler Cemetery. Animal sitings are another past time as well as trips around the area visiting the local attractions. Our children say they love coming to Maine-it's beautiful, it's quiet and it is miles away from the stress of home.
