Named for the creek that flows beside it, Laurel Creek Cottage is a wonderful retreat beneath the High Knob of Roan Mountain. Located half way between Bakersville, NC and the Appalachian Trail at Carver's Gap, it is a beautiful drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our area is known for the Rhododendron Gardens atop Roan Mountain and for the many Christmas tree farms, as Mitchell County is the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree. Our communities have great public areas for swimming, fishing, jogging, tennis and bicycling. These creek side and river side parks are pristine and relaxing. Other area activities include tubing, kayaking, gem mining, studio tours for local artists, museums and entertaining evenings at local restaurants and gathering spots.
As hosts to our visiting guests, we strive to make your trip enjoyable and comfortable. Our master suite is a soothing place with a king bed, cathedral ceilings and skylights. The double door access to the creek side deck invites one to explore the outdoors and the nearby waterfalls. Laurel Creek is a native stream. The sound of the rushing water has been a lullaby for many of our guests.
Our guest room has a double bed with a single bed bunk above. Another full bath is right next to the guest room and deck access, just steps away.
The cottage has all the conveniences of home. Linens and towels are provided. The living room adjoins the kitchen and dining area, and there is a 'mud room' entrance for those snowy days.
Asheville's Biltmore Estate is a leisurely drive of just over an hour. The slopes of Boone and Banner Elk are within an hour's drive. Our area is conveniently located near other exciting adventures. Packages are available as well.

Everything was outstanding. We were very impressed with Laurel Creek Cottage. The new Hybrid Grill is great. What a great steak. The option of infrared, gas or charcoal is super. We hated to leave the back deck, but glad we did and discovered the Waterfall. The cottage is clean and comfortable and private. See you in July when we get our dates figured out. You guys are wonderful hosts.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We've stayed here quite a few times over the last few years and every time have enjoyed it. Everything you need is there and IF it's not, the owners are nearby to assist you. The creek is beautiful and walking up to the waterfall is challenging but worth the effort. There's privacy but yet there's convenience to one of the cutest little Mom and Pop grocery stores just down the street. Be sure to visit it just for the experience. Enjoy grilling by the creek, hamburgers never smelled so good. High elevation, cool clean air, clean facilities, what more could you want. Highly recommend. AND, be sure to go to the Roan and walk up to the Rhododendron gardens. Absolutely breathtaking.Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

First of all, the owners of Laurel Cottage are terrific. They will stop at nothing to make sure their guests are well taken care of. The cottage has just about anything you could need. The master suite is stunning. The high ceilings and skylights are wonderful. You open the doors to the deck (and you can leave them open, as there is a screened door to keep the buggies out) and are at a waterfall -type creek that makes the most delicious sound. At night you can lay on a king-sized bed, see the stars through the skylight, and hear the creek. It's like camping out, but in a big comfy bed! A cool breeze blew constantly even though it was June. I was here for 3 days and loved every minute of it. The cottage is a peaceful, relaxing place to stay. The only thing I might mention is to folks who are looking for solitude. The cottage is on the same lot as the owner's house (which is beautiful) and is just outside the front door. The deck area is completely private though. My stay here was just what needed!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

i love this place we stayed here once when we went to visit my daughter who lives in bakersville and it felt like home so relaxing and everything you need to enjoy. whenever we come up to visit this would be the only place i would want to stay. my only regret is that i cant afford to go more often. The owners are wonderful and very helpful.i would recomend this place. especially if you just want a quiet place with the sound of the river off the bedroom.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
