Great space, great location but not all great...
Great space, great location but not all great...
Review of Apartment This owner/architect’s high design didn't mask a filthy space. We spent 2.5 hours of our first morning cleaning this apartment. We were terribly surprised to find dusty floors, muddy white walls, dirty appliances, stained yucky sheets and other unsavory things. Look out for old hairy bars of soap and other general nastiness. The trash had not been taken out; the cupboards were full of half-used boxes of food left by prior guests. Truly unacceptable! One can forgive a lot of things if a space is clean, has a comfortable bed and clean linens. The investment in a general cleaning service should be at the top of this owners list of things-to-do if he expects the money he's charging. If you are thinking about renting this space I strongly recommend INSISTING on a cleaning service and fresh bedding and towels. I still cringe at the thought of the anonymous stains on the sheets. Eeeewwwwwhhhh! We also had to pay for expensive internet access because the wi-fi was down. We didn't learn that until the day we arrived. This is a basic service that is expected wherever you go these days. If we'd been told in advance we could have prepared for it. The owner, Agent Q, was hard to reach before hand so we were getting a bit suspicious about renting the place, wondering if it was legitimate. After repeated emails, Agent Q finally sent a short email to say the reservation was secure and not to worry. The upside, his friend who greeted us was cordial; and, later in the week the local manager visited when he returned from holiday to meet us, offer us a nice bottle of wine as consolation for the extended wifi/internet outage. The space is well designed and in a beautiful location. Truly stunning day or night by all standards – like the photos suggest. Be mindful of the varying floor levels. The modernity is a bit stark. A few bouquets of flowers brightened up the space. Once the place was scrubbed down and we bought new sheets to sleep on, it felt on par with what most would expect when traveling to a world-class city. Location cannot be better, walking to Rembrandt Square in two minutes. Views of the river through the huge windows are superb. We asked for reimbursement for cleaning the space and the purchase of clean sheets after we returned and never heard one word from him. It was less about the money than the principle.

Nice apartment but caveat emptor
Nice apartment but caveat emptor
This apartment in Amsterdam has a great location and views and is very nice for the price. But potential renters should be aware of a few issues. First for the apartment itself, the loft does not have a railing (and its a long fall to the hardwood/tile floor below) so anyone who sleep walks and families with small children (10 or younger) should consider this. Second - we have used VRBO to rent in numerous locations in Europe, the United States and Australia and have never had issues arise with the owner/manager. Unfortunately this was our first bad experience with an owner. Issues included: 1) full cost of renting not being clearly laid out on the VRBO page (additions included taxes, cleaning fees, Pay Pal fees and breakage insurance), 2) a manager who quit the week before we were due to arrive (fortunately the new manager was very nice and helpful), 3) the owner requiring final payment, with two days notice, earlier than was indicated on the initial invoice from the owner, and lastly 4) the refundable security deposit we paid (in place of non-refundable breakage insurance) was not refunded for 2 months (and required my emailing the owner 3 or 4 times before we got the money back). While the apartment was nice, the headaches associated with dealing with the owner weren't worth it. We have no interest in staying there again. This is the first VRBO review I've posted b/c its the first bad experience we've had with a VRBO rental.

Manager response: This review was interesting for us as we always get five star reviews. This unit has clear accurate photos and description info in the listing. This guest knew about the architecture and layout of the unit prior to booking the unit. Instead of just taking responsibility for possibly making the wrong choice in apartment for her needs she choose to critcize the open design and call it an "Issue"..As mentioned in our other reviews, guest really enjoy the unit. It has a trully amazing city/river view! This guests points out bad experiences with the owner but fails again to take resposiblity for her side of making the experince bad. 1. Full cost of the rentail? - Everything is laid out by the VRBO site. Super transparent...Everything is in black and white. 2...Not sure why she even bothers to mention old the manager quiting the week before.... Then says "The new manager was nice and helpful" in the next sentence. There was no problem here. 3. We required payment and booking ASAP...."With a two day notice"..because of too many back and forth emails trying to hagle down the price without confirming. We had other inquires. She was first in line so she was urged to book the dates or loose them. 4. Refundable Security Deposit - We did her a favor and accepted a deposit. We usually require guest to use the insurance from VRBO on our rental in Amsterdam...cheap, super easy, security for us, our property and the guest. She was told it would take upto 2 weeks to return deposit. She then sent emails asking us to return the deposit on her credit card...but she did not pay to us with a CC. The VRBO site never gives the guests CC information so we could not return to her CC...Then she changed again and wanted us to send a check. We just returned the deposit via PAYPal in the end....as promised. She says she enjoyed the unit... We have great reviews. People enjoy always enjoy their stay at our unit. We do our best. A difficult guests who is focused on issues will always be a challenge..
I was in Amsterdam to set up our European office and needed a central location from which to work, go to meetings and attend client dinners. So this was a perfect fit. The apartment is exactly as described, clean, bright, spacious and modern with spectacular views of the canal. Another feature I particularly appreciated was how quite it was (both during the day and night). Though my visit was "off-peak," I'd expect similar from a summer rental since there aren't any clubs, bars or cafes directly adjacent to the property (plenty of them just seconds away, of course). I've read reviews of the other property manager, but they have a new one now - Steve. No offense to the previous manager, but Steve is awesome! Extremely responsive, got back to me immediately with information on transportation, local restaurants and even arranged a low-cost taxi for my very early morning departure. He was attentive, friendly and thoroughly professional. You knew that if anything went wrong, he'd be there in a heartbeat. AgentQ handles things stateside prior to visiting, and does a superb job of ensuring everything is in order. The location of the apartment is ideal for anyone who wants to take in the museums, shopping, restaurants, and bars. It is right off the Rembrandtplein (Rembrandt Square) - one of the oldest squares in Amsterdam. Yes, it's a bit touristy in parts, but there's also a certain charm in that too. Rembrandtplein offers access to nearly any tram you need, making the city thoroughly accessible. But walking is always more fun. There are plenty of tourist traps on Rembrandtplein, and plenty of tourists to fill them. Avoid these for dinner. Instead, head over to De Nachtwacht for a steak you will not soon forget. The Dutch know a thing or two about raising beef! So good! And if you see their very cool house cat, give Cleo a gentle pat on the head for me. Enjoy!

Perfect home away from home
Perfect home away from home
My husband and I rented this apartment for six nights in September. It was exactly as described. It was clean and spacious. The bed was incredibly comfortable. We loved the shower and the double sink in the bathroom. The towels were downright plush. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to have breakfast every morning and to prepare dinner at the apartment two or three nights. The washer and dryer were efficient and definitely came in handy. Many handy amenities were already provided: bar soap, tissues, dish detergent, laundry detergent, etc. The view of the canals from the livingroom was so special that we rearranged the furniture so that we could eat overlooking the Amstel. The location is ideal. We walked everywhere, the museums, the red light district, Anne Frank house, even the train station. There were a supermarket and a liquor store very close. There was a huge variety of restaurants literally within steps of the apartment. A bit farther, but still an easy walk, was a wonderful seafood restaurant, Lucius. Although the weather was less than perfect during much of our stay, we were able to take advantage of the terrace one afternoon for drinks. It was remarkably private for such a lively neighborhood. Unfortunately, Juan was unavailable at the time of our arrival, but he arranged for a colleague, Fermin, to meet us. He met us at the apartment exactly on time, and he stayed to show us around the apartment, how to use the appliances, etc. He even took the time to look over our map with us to orient us to Amsterdam, as it was our first visit. He warned us to be careful to avoid obstructing bicycle traffic, which turned out to be very good advice. Juan was extremely attentive to our questions before our arrival, providing us very detailed information, and he even emailed us during our stay to make sure all was well. Not only would we recommend this apartment to others, but we look forward to returning to Amsterdam and this apartment.

We stayed for thirteen days and were able to live like locals. As an "export" born in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam I can qualify this apartment as everything it's advertised to be and more. Panoramic top floor views of the Amstel and a rooftop terrace overlooking the surrounding sights. Great kitchen and a shower with abundant water pressure. A wonderful location to explore Amsterdam.

Perfect! Could not have been happier!!
Perfect! Could not have been happier!!
From the start Juan and the owner have been nothing but friendly, attentive, and personable. Juan was waiting for our arrival for our 6 night stay in the morning and showed us to the apartment. We absolutely loved the location and the beautiful apartment. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the recommendations for dinner they had for us and The place is spacious and would be plenty big for 4 people. We were thankful for and used the bathtub every night! I would definitely recommended this place to anyone and everyone. We also enjoyed the terrace and were lucky enough to see a double (2) rainbow after a rain. We were traveling to Paris from Amsterdam and unfortunately encountered a strike and would not be able to,leave for a day. My husband and I started to panic but I emailed Juan and he immediately responded back informing us he would be happy to let us stay for another night (luckily the next guest wasn't arriving for a day) and I know even if so they would not have left us stranded and would have helped us found a place, anyways they also worked out an amazing deal and we owe them and are thankful for their generosity. You will not regret your decision to stay at this beautiful apartment that is walking or a quick bike ride away to everything!

Fantastic apartment. We stayed for two weeks and loved every minute. Juan welcomed us very early in the morning and stored our luggage until check in. Wonderful views: modern fixtures: spotlessly clean: fantastic location. Will be our first choice every time we visit Amsterdam.

Great location - the center of the center. close to everything. Great facility - good heating system and showers, which you can't take for granted in Europe. Great ambiance - well decorated modern place. Stunning view. Great owners - attentive and easy to work with. As a frequent guest in the short term rentals, this one definitely stands out as excellent
