  We had a most enjoyable time. A small space away from it all. You get a really nice beach with almost no one on it. It is not far from from the north side (Na Pali coast) or any where down on the south end. If you are looking for fancy or roomy this is not it. It is a very clean, simple cottage. perfect for just getting away. If you like to be on your own and have no one else around this is the place. You can in a few steps be on a lovely beach, great snorkeling and swimming. sit out on the lawn and enjoy the view, or go walk and have adventures. Easy to get to good shops and restaurants. Perfect for two people. You might not be able to see much of the ocean from the front porch, but great view from the yard. Don't think you can get better with out paying a lot more money. We saw lots of whales while we were there as well. Had a great time.

  We planned to stay four nights and found the cottage is not at all suitable as it is represented. The air conditioner is right beside the head of the bed and does not allow one to sleep. The screens on the windows operate poorly, if at all. The loft upstairs is not at all suitable for sleeping (the blinds don't work in the loft, the window opens poorly, circulation is non-existent, mattress is most uncomfortable). There is no screen on the opening patio doors to enable fresh air into the main area. A water fountain did not work as advertised. The cottage does not have a clear view to the ocean, but rather through another home's patio.

  Owner response: What is disappointing is when guests like these do not make their complaints known at the time of their visit. We have 5 people on staff whose phone numbers are listed on a laminated card for the guests to call with any concerns or problems they may be having. We heard not a peep from these folks during their stay. No one made any such complaints prior to their visit nor since their visit. The cottage is air conditioned to keep it mold free and pleasant at all times. Many Hawaiian hotels and vacation rentals are moldy because they are not air conditioned in this climate. However, had the guests made it known to us that the A/C unit was too loud, we would have replaced it right then. If they had told us that they wanted a breeze through the cottage for awhile, we have a screen door for the slider door stored beneath the house that is easy for us to quickly install. It has never been an issue before nor since. The cottage has one of the most spectacular ocean views in Hawaii from its expansive private front yard of nearly ½ acre with its own private path to a stunning beach. Sitting on the lawn chairs looking at the ocean views is simply breath taking. Even sitting on the front lanai, there is a wonderful ocean view. The loft has a comfortable queen size air mattress. The air could have been adjusted for personal comfort should we have received a call. If the fountain was not working, it may be a simple matter of knowing where the on switch was. In other words, it is more disappointing when we try so hard to make this place extra special for everyone, that the guests do not let us know at the time there are issues that likely could be addressed in some manner. Even when we refunded them $150 for any inconvenience they may have experienced unbeknownst to us+ their security deposit refund, they still filed this negative review. We have many repeat guests, year after year, and they would not come back for extended stays if they did not find this a very special place indeed. No one tries harder than we do to make this property the quintessential Hawaiian paradise vacation!

  Our stay at Secret Cove Cottage was a wonderful experience. This cottage was the perfect getaway for my wife and myself. The kitchen was well equipped and the barbecue grill was in excellent condition. The cottage had great Internet connectivity which came in handy for making plans on things to do around the island and posting pictures of our vacation. The kingsize bed was very comfortable. The cottage had all the amenities anyone might need, was well kept and was beautifully landscaped.  We loved being able to walk down our private lawn to the beach. The snorkeling was great and the kayaks were fun as well. We often had the whole beach to ourselves. I never saw more then just a few people there our entire stay! This cottage was the perfect way for us to enjoy beautiful Kuaui.  We'll be back.

  We've just returned from our visit to paradise--the island of Kauai and the Secret Cove Cottage! We immediately fell in love with Kauai and its laid-back atmosphere. So many fun shops and places to eat. The Beach House in Poipu is delightful for a romantic dinner and Eggbert's in the Coconut Marketplace is not to be missed for breakfast. The first day we stocked up on groceries in Foodland (Kapa'a) so we could fix breakfast and pack lunches in the cottage. The cottage is just lovely and the perfect size for 2 people. So many details were thought of including chocolates and a fruit basket upon our arrival, lots of fluffy towels in the sunny bathroom, a comfy king-size bed, and chairs on the lanai which were great for reading. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. We appreciated having a blender for pina coladas! My only suggestion would be a sharper knife for cutting pineapple. Our favorite spot at the cottage was sitting in the adirondack chairs, sipping Kona coffee or a mai tai as we watched the sun rise and the waves roll in. Can't get more relaxing than that! So nice to have a beach just a few steps away for romantic strolls. We look forward to the time we can return to Kauai. We will definitely stay at the Secret Cove Cottage again!

  This is a gem of cottage! Lovely and convenient location to everything on Kauai. We used the cottage as our honeymoon getaway and couldn't have been more pleased. Everything is there close by from food to entertainment to shopping and adventure. Lovely contrast of scenery from the ocean at your front door to the mountains in the background just up the road. Had near perfect weather during our entire stay. Slight 5 minutes sprinkles about once a day were never even a hinderence! There is so much to do in Kauai. Wish we had more time, but we will definitely be planning to come back soon! The cottage was well prepared, even more so than I was expecting. The fruit basket and chocolates were a very nice touch. Someone apparently knows I like chocolate!! Would definitely recommend this place to all my friends and family.

  We found Secret Cove Cottage to be everything we had hoped it would be and more! The property is very well equipped with all we needed for our vacation. We saw just 2 people on the beach during our stay there. Cottage is very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the dog visits mentioned in prior review as well! The property is very clean and well maintained inside and outside. The location is truly beautiful and quiet. Perfect for romantic retreat! We can't wait to come back!

  My husband and I stayed in this cottage at the end of September until October, for 12 days. Wow! We had the best time and loved all of the amenities as well as the location of this cottage. The photos make it appear to be a walk to the beach...it is not, it is right on the water with amazing views of the water from the full front glass door. We enjoyed the chickens and the afternoon dog visits. We have been to Kauai several times and this is by far the best place we have stayed. The beach is private, we were often the only people on the beach in front of the cottage and we enjoyed the privacy and secluded feel of the cottage. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a true get away.

  We did not have a real positive experience at The Secret Cove Cottage on Aliomanu Bay in May 2011 when we went there for my 60th BD. What you see is not what you get!!!! Secret Cove Cottage looked as if it was on the ocean, but we had to go out in the yard in order to even SEE the ocean. We could not open the windows nor slider per the owner, thus we had to run the air all night and could not get the "soft breezes from the ocean (that) grace the front porch and cottage". The beach is not "private", as anyone can access it. The loft is terribly misleading, because you would have to be very young and agile to get up to it. It is accessed by a steep ladder that goes straight up the wall at a 90 degree angle. We were glad that we had not brought our aged parents or counted on sleeping 4 people - it would not have been possible. On the plus side, it was clean and relatively well stocked and the outdoor shower was nice. It was nice to have the filtered water, but our allotment was gone half way through our stay.

  My girlfriend and I have stayed at Secret Cove Cottage twice in the last two years and absolutely Love it! The secluded beach alone is worth the stay. You can snorkel in a protected bay that is loaded with fish or just relax with a cocktail on the beach. The cottage is kept clean and has all the amenities you have at home. Since the location is on the East side, you have easy access to the north or south island spots. The owner and agent are easy to work with and very attentive. If you plan on a trip to Kauai, this is a great bang for your buck!

  Where do I begin?! From the moment we walked in we knew we had chosen the right place. We were greeted by a chilled bottle of champagne, a box of wonderful chocolates, and a basket of fresh island fruit. The cottage was in pristine shape with all the amenities we could need and more. We cooked at the cottage a couple of nights during our stay and had everything we needed including all the spices we needed for the spaghetti already there at the cottage. It quite literally has everything you could need. Plenty of beach gear too. Boogie boards, kayaks (awesome see-through bottoms!), hard and soft-side coolers (good for day hikes). The setting around the cottage is beautiful…it’s like being in the jungle…think the TV show Lost...yet it’s just a short drive to civilization and plenty of AMAZING eating! Definitely try the Anahola farmer’s market just down the road…open Friday through Sunday I believe. Try the island boar! The view from the porch is gorgeous…you can see right out into the beautiful cove. One of the things we were bent on doing in Hawaii was snorkeling. We heard that Tunnels Beach was a great place and gave it a try on day one. We were quite disappointed at the number and variety of fish we saw there. So on day two we took to the cove right behind our cottage…the snorkeling was awesome! We saw at least 15-20 different kinds of really cool tropical fish. Exactly what I had imagined and hoped for. Not saying Tunnels is always going to be a bad spot, just saying why bother?! (Although the drive to Tunnels is definitely worth doing for all the scenery) Just step out your back door to the best snorkeling you’ll find on the island! Start to finish, this place was the best! We give it 5 big stars!!! Thanks Jan for making booking so easy! As you know, we’re already re-booking for next year’s trip back to stay at Secret Cove Villa right next door! Bringing the parents back for round 2!
