The location of this one bedroom is ideal for the traveler who wants to be in a convenient central location, but also wants to get away from the noise and hustle/bustle of New York City. The apartment is in a unique location, between West End and Riverside -- which means that it is one block away from Broadway (the subway, shops, restaurants, theaters, grocery stores) and one-half block away from Riverside (Riverside Park, Hudson River, 91st St. Perennial and Herb Garden, and the picturesque greenway path).

The apartment itself is quiet, very sunny as both the bedroom and living room have north exposure and a direct view of the sky ... no buildings blocking out the light. There is plenty of storage, including a full closet for linens and supplies, another closet for coats and shoes/boots, and yet another walk-in closet in the bedroom with a chest of drawers. The furniture is plush and comfortable, and the bed mattress is less than one year old. There is a small kitchen in full supply of cooking utensils, sink, refrigerator, gas stove, oven, microwave, and electric kettle. The bathroom is clean, has storage areas for toiletries, and the bathtub is clean and deep enough for a relaxing soaking experience. Enjoy hardwood floors, a decorative fireplace, and laundry in the basement.

The apartment is located within walking distance to Lincoln Center and Central Park ... a quick trip to Times Square and the Theater District ... direct subway (one train) access to downtown, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, and Soho.

I DO NOT ADVERTISE ON CRAIGSLIST. Recently, someone on Craigslist has been uploading pictures of my apartment, linking to this profile, and trying to scam people into making an advanced deposit of $400. Again, this is NOT me. I only make reservations through this site.

We stumbled across Liz's apartment listing amongst other 1 bedroom apartment listings in the Upper West Side here on VRBO but what caught our attention (well, mine more than my hubby's) was that it was "just doors down from Kathleen Kelly's apartment" from the movie You've Got Mail. Apart from the bonus of being near various locations where the movie was shot, we just loved the location! It was close to the subway, a couple small supermarkets, a fresh fruit stand, plenty of Starbucks (free wifi!) and various cafes. It was great being in a regular neighbourhood and away from the many tourists that New York draws to itself. The neighbourhood was relatively quiet for a big city with not too much traffic on the street below the apartment. The locals were friendly too. The apartment itself suited our needs perfectly. We were there in July with temps in the late 90's and the a/c unit kept us comfortably cool. It was great having our own kitchen and also laundry facilities in the basement. Liz had all sorts of toiletries/first aid type necessities on hand should we have forgotten anything like that. Liz was available via e-mail, and then cell phone once we arrived in the US, for any questions we had. We have already recommended Liz's apartment to a couple of our friends who are planning visits to New York, and want to highly recommend it here also. Thanks Liz for making your apartment available - it was great! Who knows, maybe we'll be back for another visit and stay in your apartment again! :)

I stayed in this apartment for 2 1/2 weeks in May with a friend. Although it is a one bedroom we had a week each of one in the bedrrom and one on the couch. The couch is super comfy to sleep on! We were able to meet the owner before she vacated and she was really helpful in getting us started, it being our first time in NYC. The apartment was very clean and tidy and the cupboard in the bathroom well stocked with toiletries should we have needed them. There were plenty of towels and spare sheets available and notes left around the apartment as to where to find things. There was a washing machine and dryer located in the basement which was really handy too. The location is unbeatable! We felt really safe there, even at night and it is quite close to the subway into the heart of NYC. There were plenty of shops and places to eat on Broadway, I even found a decent hairdresser there during my stay! It is close to Riverside Park which is really nice for a daily walk or jog and we even walked to and from Central Park from the apartment. We found after the hustle and bustle of a day sightseeing in downtown Manhattan we could escape and retreat to the leafy lined streets of our apartment on the Upper West side! The floorboards are wooden however and the walking around of the neighbour upstairs got a bit annoying from time to time but it didn't last very long and I'm sure we were having the same effect on our neighbour below! I was really sad to leave the apartment when our 2 1/2 weeks were up. It became our little home away from home. I hope you have as amazing a time staying here as we did.

My wife and I recently stayed at this property for 7 nights for our honeymoon. We've both lived in the city before and have unfortunately become pretty picky as to where we like to stay. While our high maintenance preferences have been a problem in the past :), we now longer have to worry about that now that we've found Liz's place. It's a great little place, and by NY standards it's actually a good sized one bedroom apartment. It was well cared for, very comfortable, and made us wish we could just stay there. :) It's just a quick walk away from the 86th St subway station, which easily gets you into midtown. If you prefer a cab, you're still only 15 minutes away from Rockefeller, Times Square, 5th Ave, etc. At her location, you're very close to one of the most beautiful places in Central Park, which is the view from the lake near 77th/Central Park West. The place is steps away from Riverside Park as well. Located in the heart of the Upper West Side, it's in one of the best parts of the city with plenty of shopping, food, and charm. And for the movie buffs out there, she's only a few doors down from Kathleen Kelly's apartment in You've Got Mail. :) We loved our stay and will definitely return!

My husband and I stayed at Liz's home for 6 nights in September. After a slight mix up with getting the keys, our stay was absolutely fabulous!! Liz tried to email us about the change in key pick up but we did not have a computer available since we had been traveling. She was immediately available by cell phone with the pick up information. The apartment was very comfy and cozy and the pictures very accurately describe the apartment. The description is accurate with the exception of the bed. I agree that the bed is not a queen it is only a full size. The subway is only a few blocks away and easily accessible. The laundry in the basement was a very nice extra, clean coin op machines!! This apartment was in a very quiet neighborhood which was nice for relaxing after busy bustling adventures in the city!!! We would definitely recommend this apartment!!! Thanks Liz for sharing your home with us!

As English is not my native language I try to write as little as possible. Thus I shall agree with every thing that has been written in previous reviews. What I want to contribute is some down sides which were observed in our 9 days stay. We chose this particular apartment because our son and his wife live near by. We looked for the nearest option and were glad to find out that it is very reasonbly priced. After reading the first review we asked Liz about the blinds, she promised to see what she can do. Well she probably couldn't, there were no blinds or shades of any kind. Luckily Liz provides enough linnen. We found the flat not that very clean - dust on the shelf and cupberts. (reminded us home). We found that Liz is quite slow on responding. When you have to fly 14 hours and arrive around mid-night, you want to be sure you know that you get the keys the easiest way. It took us some days untill we got an answer. Finally things went smoothly, but finally. Last but most important, Internet. I must use the internet on a daily basis, mornings and evenings at least. I can not rely on Starbucks or any other remote solution. For me this is a real drawback. We are planning to visit our kids regularly (2 times a year probably), we could have used this flat with the greatest of pleasure, but we probably would not due to the lack of internet connection. The place is highly reccomended.

Owner response: I am sorry that your stay was less than ideal. I am up front about the fact that there is no private wireless provided, and I myself understand that is indeed a necessity for many. I use an unsecured wireless connection when I stay in the apartment. The signal is especially strong in the bedroom. In fact, I am now responding to this message in my apartment ON that wireless connection. Again, I know an absolutely iron clad private network in one's lodging is imperative for some ... if this is the case, then my apartment would NOT be ideal for you. I provide a cell phone number to my renters where I can be reached at all times. It is unfortunate that international travelers cannot always use this method of communication. As I am now back in the city, I have added shades in the bedroom. A legitimate complaint ... many people would like the option of less sunlight. I also now have sleeping masks that I provide to guests (as well as ear plugs). I have passed along the concern of dust to my apartment cleaner. She assures me that she will do what she can, though there is little to be done when a guest stays for a longer duration. Again, thank you for your feedback.

Our experience was...painful. Especially when we came back home...Don't you EVER rent this appartment because: - The location is absolutely charming that you will fallin love with it: safe and quiet. The upper west side is a perfect homebase after visiting Manhattan all day long; - The appartment is fully equiped, from the kitchen to the bathroom, evertying needed is reachable, although we only enjoyed the comodities a couple of hours a day: - Subway is a 5 minute walk, plenty of Starbucks nearby, grocery stores on every corner, Riverside park & Central Park...We picked up true new yokers' habits that we are not ready to get rid of! - The owner is so helpful and communicative that everything went smooth. (We can't thank the owner enough for that). Currently we feel homesick. We miss NYC already (we can't thank the owner enough for that, too!). Still want to rent this apartment after all? Because we do...! Looking forward to coming back next time!

I stayed at Liz’s apartment for 5 nights in July. The apartment was very quiet and the photos accurately capture the apartment. The subway is less that a ten minute walk and bus lines are a block or two in either direction which makes this apartment a great springboard for visiting museums and all that NYC has to offer. There is a very good bagel shop, Tal Bagels at 2446 Broadway close by, as well as a 24 hour Empire Diner for those late night adventures! As previously mentioned, there is no elevator, so if you are a heavy packer, be prepared to haul your luggage. There are about 10 local broadcast TV channels that come through, and there is a nice selection of DVDs to choose from. The kitchen is nicely equipped. The Upper West Side is a great home base, I would stay here again without hesitation!

My husband and I spent a week at Liz's place in July 2010. Liz does not live in the city so she asked us to pick up the keys from another address about 12 streets away. We got the keys without any problem and reached the apartment. The building itself is a old walk-up on a quiet tree-lined street. The area is well maintained and safe and the building is less than 100 feet away from Riverside Park, our new favorite park in the city. The subway line is also conveniently close by. The apartment is on the third floor of the walk-up building - so beware of creaky wooden stairs! We thought it was charming but it's still a climb. The apartment is very cute and almost exactly as the pictures describe. Everything is very clean and the decor is welcoming - think oversize cushions, lots of candles. One of the downsides to the apartment was that the bed, though marked as a queen, is pretty small. Both of us are almost 6 feet and our bed at home is a queen, so we definitely felt cramped. I would probably call the bed a full-size instead of a queen. Another downside is that there are no blinds in any of the windows - while one concern is privacy - another is that the apartment is really sunny and on the first day we were woken up by bright sunshine at 5.30 am! We did get used to it subsequently though. Leave some cushions in the bedroom windows when you go to sleep or you'll find the street light shining into your room all night long! The apartment has two small air conditioners in the living room that work well and 1 ancient ceiling fan that creaks and a small pedestal fan in the bedroom which are adequate. The living space is very comfortable for two people and the appliances include an iron, hair-dryer, microwave, kettle. There is no Internet, though there are 3-4 Starbucks stores in the neighborhood that offer free wi-fi as of July 1. There is a small TV and DVD player and a good collection of movies that we made use of. Overall, we had a great time. The area is simply fabulous, with dozens of restaurants just 2 avenues away on Broadway and the apartment was comfortable and well-equipped and ideal for our needs.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your posting, and for being so helpful as my first visitors from VRBO. I am glad that you had an enjoyable experience. I appreciate the feed back -- I will see what I can do about shades. I myself love lots of sunlight, but I appreciate that might not be everyone's preference.

About the owner: I am an opera singer, and I travel a lot for work and leisure. My NYC apartment is vacant much of the time, which is truly a shame as it is so nice (in my humble opinion).

Why the Owner Chose Upper West Side:
Though I am rarely there, I need a home base in NYC for work. I chose the Upper West Side because for me it is charming, and has the best combination of Manhattan life with access to nature and the beauty of Riverside Park and the Hudson River. It is also the home of many cultural/musical institutions.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Central location in NYC -- but also with peace and nature.
