Wow! It was my wife's birthday weekend, and Von Jakob winery was having their Von Jakob fest that Saturday just a mile or so down the road. Based on a recommendation from a friend, we booked a weekend at the loft. Check in was hassle free, we just grabbed the key and were ready to go. The loft was absolutely spotless. So clean! Super swank and mod, it felt like staying at a deluxe condo. Beautiful wood floors, fully furnished with large couch, easy chairs, tv, breakfast bar, well equipped kitchen, two private bedrooms (this was just my wife and I, but one loft would be perfect for two couples) and more. The location is perfect. Easy to find, and perfect central location right in the heart of the wine trail - easy to get to all the best wineries (also not too far from Fuzzy's and the Blue Boar in Cobden!) Thanks for a great weekend!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

It was our 21st wedding anniversary and we wanted to do something different. Get out of the city yet stay in a nice comfortable place. I jumped on the internet and found the wine loft. Pictures looked great; however, anyone can make pictures look great, right? I took the chance and rented the loft and we are so glad that we did. The owner emailed and called me personally. The loft was exactly what we were looking for. It was very, very clean, and looked brand new. Towels in the bathroom were thick and whiter than white. The bathroom was very clean including the bathtub. You could tell that the loft was very well thought out and cared for. There was a full size fridge and stove. Private patio will be fantastic for the warmer season. We were given suggestions for eating out and places to go while we stayed in the area. I would highly recommend the loft for a relaxing weekend. I am thinking about going down for a girl’s weekend with my friends very soon. It is a great location to area wineries and other small towns.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at the loft Nov. 20-25, 2012. It was a wonderful place, clean, modern and very comfortable. Brian was very hospitable and made sure that we were well taken care of. The loft is located right next to a trail head so our family enjoyed quick hikes and some fun 'rock climbing' without the effort of even having to get in our car! The eccentric 'root beer saloon' across the street was also a big hit with our kids- they enjoyed the atmosphere and visiting with the owners. We enjoyed many amazing hikes on our trip including every trail in Giant City as well as the Godwin trail, Little Grand Canyon, Cedar Lake and the Pomona Natural Bridge (to name a few). The loft location fit wonderfully with our outdoor lifestyle. When we weren't hiking or relaxing at the loft we also spent time visiting some of the many wonderful wineries in the area. The loft's location was perfect in order to take advantage of most of them! We will certainly be back....we had a wonderful time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Wow, I couldn't have had better luck when I found this place! I was in the middle of wedding planning when I realized I needed a place to stay the weekend of the wedding, as well as a location to get ready (as the men would all be at our place). Our wedding was at Von Jakob Vineyard which does not have a lot of options nearby. However, the Alto Wine Trail Loft is only 2 miles away! This place was perfect! It was a great combination of rustic and trendy. Everything I needed was there and the price/location were perfect! We ended up shooting most of our photos in downtown Alto Pass and at the Scenic Outlook right up the road! If you are looking for somewhere quiet to get away, located in a quaint little town, with lots of outdoor/winery options available nearby, THIS IS IT. :)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I came down here from Chicago for a girl's weekend. Wow.. the scenery is awesome.. there are tons of wineries and the Alto WIne Trail Loft was just perfect! Very spacious and comfy beds.. It was so relaxing to wake up, sit on the front porch while listening to the birds and watch the cute little town come alive. I wish I could take the loft home with me.. I am coming back in the fall!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The Alto Wine Loft is an easily recommendable place to stay when visiting or traveling around Southern Illinois. The loft is nestled within a quaint town, and it is near many other local hotspots (wineries, national parks, area attractions). When looking back at the pictures on the Wine Loft website, I believe the pictures do not do the loft justice. The loft is medernly decorated and quickly gives a warm and inviting feel. We rented the loft the day of our wedding, and it easily housed 9 women getting ready for a wedding. When my husband and I stayed there the night of the wedding, it was easy to decompress and relax. I believe much thanks go towards the uuber comfortable memory foam mattresses and the complementary wine! The next time that we need a weekend away or if we have family visiting, we plan on renting the loft again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

A big group of 11 people, including myself, rented both units out for our wine trail getaway last weekend, and we had a fabulous time! The Loft is beautifully decorated and uniquely situated along the wine trail in Alto Pass. There is a magnificent scenic view just a short walk from the Loft, and the small town of Alto Pass offers other spectacular views of Southern Illinois as well. Both the caretaker, and the owner of the property were very friendly and extremely hospitable. I will definitely be staying at the Loft again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Fabulous accomodations in the middle of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. Very clean and updated loft that sleeps up to 6 in each unit. Two very comfortable bedrooms, a great bathroom, and full kitchen are just a few of the highlights. Customer service was top of the line with very personal attention to anything our group needed. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My experience at the Alto Wine Trail Loft was exceptional on several levels. First, it's close to all the area attractions (wineries, university, parks, lakes, recreational opportunities, etc.). Its location in a historic building (dating back to 1912, when it was a general store and blacksmith shop) in a tiny village made for a laid-back, easy-going atmosphere in which to relax in a more slow-paced environment than most of us are accustomed to, creating a perfect vacation mood. Second, the area is amazingly beautiful, hilly, and green (despite the misconception that all of Illinois is flat farmland), with many opportunities for hiking, swimming, fishing, and wildlife/bird viewing. From the Loft, one can easily embark on any number of outdoor or winery-related adventures, and have a wonderful place to come "home" to at the end of the day. Third, the loft was newly renovated, immaculately maintained, clean, spacious, and well stocked with amenities. There's definitely pride of ownership here. It's very comfortable and easy to settle into for a very relaxing stay. Having stayed in many cookie-cutter hotels, I especially appreciated the wonderfully comfortable beds and pillows! It's easy to cook meals or keep snacks, with a full kitchen -- plus it's also a nice place to hang out with friends and family, with a full living room to spread out in (also unlike in standard hotel rooms). I would recommend the Alto Wine Trail Loft to anyone visiting the Southern Illinois region without reservation. It's a unique sort of vacation rental, and the owner deserves kudos for bringing such a business venture to an area that for many decades was lacking in such services.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The alto wine trail lofts are in a great location for visiting several local wineries. The place was immaculate and exactly what we had hoped for. We had some other couples join us and everyone was very impressed with how nice they were. Really had a great time. Look forward to staying there again in the future. Thanks Brian and Julie!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
