  My college girlfriends have been meeting in Cooperstown for many years and we have stayed in a variety of places. Cary Mede was, by far, our absolute favorite!! The guest house was perfect for our reunion. A large kitchen where we could all gather and have fun preparing a meal. A spacious dining table for meals and games. A lovely living room with three comfy couches for lounging and catching up. And comfortable beds waiting for us when we finally retired! The grounds and other buildings are absolutely breathtaking with a huge expansive lawn leading down to the lake and a charming boathouse. We were greeted warmly and felt welcomed during our stay. The decision to return to Cary Mede next year was unanimous!

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

  We (with our 2 dogs) had a lovely vacation in this charming guest house. Comfortable,clean, great room is spacious and cozy.. We had guests over the Labor day weekend and were all treated most graciously by the owner and staff. Even saw an eagle, terrific!

  My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I were in Cooperstown for my son’s wedding. We had a very unwelcoming stay at this property. The owner is more concerned with her comfort and privacy than the guests, which was felt by how closely watched we were, the condescending introduction to the property by the property manager, and the requirement that if you have a visitor (not encouraged) you must report the visit to the staff ahead of time. When I did report an expected visitor, I was interrogated about who, what, when and even why! The grounds surrounding the house are basically off limits, but you can walk or drive down the road to the lake. The house is well-equipped and cottage-like, but not clean. The beds and pillows are uncomfortable. We stayed for 4 nights and were extremely disappointed. Our experience spoiled an otherwise magical weekend. Rather than being considered guests, I felt we were considered intruders. I would not recommend this property.

  Owner response: Response from Cary Mede to a recent review: The word privacy can also be interpreted to mean safety. Cary Mede is not a commercial property but is, and has been, our family compound for almost 100 years. There is one guest house on the property which is rented to the public. The safety of our guests at Cary Mede and the safety of our family is of the utmost importance. The critical review was correct in saying visitors must be made known to the staff. Many curiosity seekers drive through this rural lakeside property because it is so compellingly beautiful. For that reason, we prefer to know who is staying and/ or visiting , or who might be an intruder. Almost 100% of our guests are repeat customers, and they are grateful for the privacy and security that Cary Mede provides.

  We can't say enough about the Guest House at Cary Mede. The history of the beautiful property and the scenic views of the lake are outstanding. The house is very clean and well appointed. It was not hard to settle in and fell like we were at home.Spacious living room, dining room and kitchen. Cozy bedrooms. It was a great winter getaway for us, and we are returning at the end of Feb for another week! It is a perfect place for families or couples, no matter what the season is. Everyone at Cary Mede could not be nicer or more helpful. Cary Mede is a great choice for your visit to the Cooperstown area.

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
