This Hawaiian-style home is located at Kapoho Tide Pools, home of the Wai'Opae Marine Life Conservation District. The cottage is set in a fragrant tropical garden containing an assortment of flowers and fruits for your enjoyment. This newly constructed house features spacious front lanai, kitchen, dining room, living room with double-size futon, bedroom with queen-size bed, screened in back lanai with two single daybeds, and a bathroom.
Kapoho is in the "Old Hawaiian" District of Puna where there are quiet tree-covered roads through beautiful rainforests, orchid farms, and fields of papayas. Kapoho is off the "Red Road" where a rain shadow makes it the sunniest spot on the east side of the Big Island.
A ten-minute walk through this small shoreline community leads to extensive tide pools protected by a large reef. The tide pools provide safe swimming and world-class snorkeling among tropical fish and colorful corals. Another walk will take you for a swim at "Champagne Cove," a geothermally heated seawater estuary and a favorite spot for sea turtles.
Some of the additional local activities include Ahalanui Park, a geothermally heated pool known for its healing and restorative qualities. Try the "Steam Vents" where volcanic cones provide a unique opportunity for superb steam baths. Take a short drive down the "Red Road" to Pohoiki Bay for surfing and boogie boarding or visit the enchanting black sand at Kehena Beach. A day at Volcano National Park, one hour away, is also a must see adventure for island visitors.
The nearest town is Pahoa, located 9 miles from Kapoho, a quaint little village with Old Hawaiian buildings and wooden sidewalks dating back a century. Pahoa has some of the finest restaurants on the Big Island. The Sunday Maku'u Farmers Market is a weekly social event and an opportunity to purchase local produce and assorted arts and crafts.
