We stayed here with a group of 12 people for the New Years holiday. This home was extremely clean and welcoming. The amount of space is incredible. The location and views are amazing. Some of our group even hiked down towards the beach. We were very impressed with the location. The property owner was very accomodating to our requests and available for any questions. The only way to make this home even better would be to update the televisions. We feel very fortunate to have stayed here and hope to make it back some day!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

I recently booked this house for a girls getaway before my best friends wedding. Making a decision that affects 11 other people can be daunting, but Shorewood made me look like a hero! It was the perfect house for our weekend. Beautiful setting, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for 12 women, close to town, right on the beach. Our only complaint was that we didn't have enough to time to enjoy everything the house offered! We did use the firepit which was very fun but didn't have time to use the hot tub or just relax on one of the many balconies and terraces. I guess we're just going to have to go back! I would highly recommend this house for any type of group: families, friends, girls weekends... It's the right fit for so many occasions and the owner was very nice to work with and extremely helpful! Thanks for a great weekend!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

The house was a perfect choice for our family vacation! The house beautifully accomodated all fifteen of us (10 adults, 5 kids) with each couple having a room, the kids in the bunk bed room and a full bathroom for each family. We all agreed we loved the location of the house - close enough to town that we could easily go in for important things like ice cream :) and just far enough from the beach that we didn't have to worry about the kids being outside to play without an adult right there. The next time we return to the area, I'm sure we'll be considering another stay at Shorewood!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay last week. The view on Lake Shore - and on the beach - is truly breathtaking. The house is perfect for a large group. We took advantage of all the amenities, including the fire pits, grill, outdoor shower & hot tub. Our dogs absolutely loved the beach and the home's wooded property. We would stay here again...and again; paradise is only a two hour drive from Chicago.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

We loved the house and had a fabulous stay! The privacy was great and we particularly enjoyed the easy access to the beach. Perhaps what stood out the most was your friendly, welcoming approach to us as renters. We will certainly consider staying with you again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

Five moms and five teenage daughters shared this perfect house for a long weekend in April. We would go back in a heartbeat! We used every amenity -- fireplaces, fire pit, decks, every bedroom, huge basement, well-equipped kitchen, hot tub, dvd players, private beach, walking trails, and great hangout spaces. We spent a day in Saugatuck shopping, browsing, and eating. We went go-carting! We saw the tulips in Holland and toured Hope College. We walked the beach and hiked the dunes. We spent the evenings eating, drinking, soaking in the hot tub, and playing board games. It was truly a wonderful trip, and much of the magic was created by the coziness and roominess (how could it be both you ask? It is!) of the house. Thanks for a great stay! We'll be back.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

Wonderful location! Beautiful home! Our family enjoyed 3 nights in this wonderful Michigan home! Plenty of bedrooms and baths and a fully stocked kitchen made it an easy stay with lots of children! Even though the "season" hadn't started yet, there were still many stores, restaurants and activities to occupy our days! The beach is beautiful and just steps away. Lots of deer around the property. Wonderful firepit for s'mores. Go-carting nearby. Great pizza and ice cream in Saugatuck and Douglas for the kids! The dunes and views are amazing! The house had enough rooms and activities to allow for some parental relaxation! Reading in the observatory was gorgeous! Great vacation!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.

We stayed at the home for a long weekend for a family reunion. We loved the home and there was plenty of room. The home is beautiful and comfortable. The location is great. The owners were awesome to work with and very accomadating. We used the observatory as an extra bedroom and that worked great. We would definitely return to this home.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

After a great November gathering here last year with friends, I proposed this house and Sautaguck for my family's reunion - a diverse group of parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews ranging in age from 26 to 84. There were 11 of us staying at the house with 3 opting for a B&B nearby - but they were over for all meals and activities. Again, the layout of the house was perfect for group cooking efforts, get-together meals, games, watching movies, etc. A few family members enjoyed one of the area golf courses; grocery shopping, exploring both Douglas and Saugatuck - the house's location made it all easy, but we all enjoyed the secluded end-of-the-road setting... beach walks, sunsets, camp fires... a lot of fun times. Uniformly, all of my family members commented that the photos here didn't do justice to the house - everything about the weekend exceeded their expectations! We'll likely be back within the next year or two!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Mickey: Thanks for staying with us again!

About the owner: We bought our Saugatuck property- 'Shorewood'- because of it's tranquil and wooded locale near Lake Michigan. We built and designed our 'Shorewood' house in such a way that would comfortably accomodate large family gatherings. 'Shorewood' which sits near the beach and towns of Saugatuck and Douglas, represents to us the best that the area has to offer.
Why the Owner Chose Saugatuck:
We bought this beautiful Saugatuck property because of it's perfect combination of tranquility when trying to get away from the stresses of everyday life, while still being able to be active in both athletics and cultural activities. Saugatuck has a very urbane charm to it, without the noise and the crowds of a major metro area. Our property is located in the most tranquil spot, near the sugar sand Lake Michigan shoreline. We built a house that we felt that not only our family could enjoy year round, but also, would be an ideal space for extended family or other large families or groups who could gather comfortably. Our house is in a private enclave, that has the Lake in the front end, and the peaceful woods in the back. Saugatuck constantly surprises us with it's diversity; ranging from the magnificent sunsets over Lake Michigan (right out our front door!), to the sugar sand beaches; to the Art Barn where our children, on a rainy day, can get make their own artwork...and it does not end there!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The beach! The sugar sand that squeaks when you walk on it. The dunes at the beach. The amazingly clean and beautiful, warm, Lake Michigan water during the summer. The sunsets! The summer! The Fall, when the leaves change and you can go apple picking! The endless running on beach/roads and/or the endless biking on roads...right out the front door. The safety and quiet of living on a private road in a private enclave with no traffic or noise. The short bike or drive to downtown Saugatuck or Douglas for food, culture, shopping, antiquing, or just strolling. The locale of house with fire pit, hot tub (and outdoor shower), and wildlife surrounding property. The airy and open layout, that our 4000 square foot home offers families and groups on trips.
