Adorable Litchfield County Converted Barn

We have a wonderful cabin (converted barn) with amazing views. Perfect for a couple on a month, week, or week end getaway. It was completely converted top to bottom in 2005. There is air conditioning for the summer months and a new ultra efficient heater for the winter months. It is 450 square feet, but feels very spacious with great light and vaulted ceilings and every thing you need for a quiet and cozy stay. You will hear owls at night and wake to song birds. You will see deer grazing in the field and hear wild turkeys in the distance.
The hamlets of Salisbury and Lakeville are located about 2 hours north of New York City by car, and is a wonderful community with a lot to offer in the way of hiking, biking & boating, art galleries, restaurants and cute shops. Limerock Racetrack is nearby, as are all the cultural attractions of the Berkshires. Within a 10 minute drive of Salisbury School, Hotchkiss School and Berkshire School.

We had the best time enjoying the purple martins and expansive views at this quintessential cottage. It was exactly what we needed for our weekend getaway to decompress from all the stresses. Wonderful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I loved our 2 night stay at this quiet cabin. The place was simple and clean -right up our alley. Because we're not local and like a little drive, we caught the train to New Haven, rented a car and drove up to the cabin. We caught the tail end of maple season and visited Lamothe's Sugar House nearby for an open house and tasting. Also went to Great Barrington nearby for dinner one night (would love to have spent a day wandering around the town) and the local Country Bistro in Salisbury for a lovely Saturday supper and again for breakfast before we left! Very welcoming community. Owners were quick to respond and gave some great suggestions for local eating -there is an in room map with local sites as well.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

As the other reviews mentioned, the pictures don't do the barn justice; it is beautiful, all natural wood inside, and though we were there on a very cold weekend it was very warm and cozy. The area is quiet and downtown Salisbury is very quaint. While in the area, definitely check out Chaiwalla (excellent sandwiches, cake, and tea) and Pastorale (perfect for a romantic dinner). Great for a quiet weekend away.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The host was very responsive to questions as we were considering staying there, and throughout our visit. He was generous in providing little extra things, whenever there were opportunities to help us - maps, suggestions, and DVDs (when the cable was out). The property is semi-rural and picturesque. The cabin was clean and, as the earlier reviewer said, definitely more charming than the pictures portray! There is not a kitchen (mini-fridge, water boiler, coffee maker), but there are places to eat in the nearby towns. The sleeping loft is upstairs - which is lovely (but wouldn't be ideal if you had limited mobility, small kids, etc.). Trail access for hiking is just a short drive up the road. We were happy with our visit and would recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My boyfriend and I had a weekend wedding to attend at the Interlaken Inn just a few miles up the road. When we found out how expensive the nightly rates were, we immediately looked on vrbo to hopefully find a last minute rental. Someone was on our side and we were both overjoyed to stumble upon this adorable cabin. When we arrived, the entire family, including the dog, warmly greeted us. The cabin is set on endless acres of land and situated across from a very lovely garden. As we stepped inside to have a look around, we instantly agreed that the pictures on this site do not come close to doing the cabin justice. It really is just too cute for words. Inside one can find all the modern conveniences one needs - a flushable toilet, shower, refrigerator, coffee maker, and even an air conditioner! I especially liked the 2 chairs out back which we used to look up at the gorgeous starry sky at night. Although we have no obligatory reason to go back to Salisbury, CT, we are already planning to return next summer. The cabin is truly an oasis away from Manhattan, and we can't wait to get back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
