  An excellent central location from which to explore day trips to National Parks (Rincon, Santa Rosa, Guanacaste, etc.) and different towns of interest - Tamarindo & Coco for shopping, Guaitil for pottery, Hermosa for beaches, etc. We even took a day trip to Grenada, Nicaragua and thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend this tour with Swiss Travel. The accommodation was clean and perfect for our purposes - excellent beds, air conditioning, fully-equipped kitchen, wonderful infinity pool and fabulous panorama of mountain range. It was a thrill so see so many colourful birds and enjoy the howler monkeys. The nearby towns of Coco & Ocotal had a plethora of restaurants to choose from, our favourites being "Papagallo" & "Tica Thai" in Coco and "Father Rooster" on Ocotal Beach. For a really special dinner, try "Gingers" at Playa Hermosa. We will definitely return next year, the only difference will be to stay for a longer period of time. Even though we were out exploring every day, there are still so many more areas of interest. It's a fabulous spot to just relax and enjoy the view or branch out to different areas. It's not possible to get bored here!

• Great condo with super pool and views

  We stayed in Stephen's condo for a month. No disappointments. Clean and well maintained. The place was stocked with all the little things to make you feel at home, such as 4 big beach towels, beach mats, toaster oven, blender, rice cooker, all kinds of cutlery, pots, pans, even wine glasses and a corkscrew. Most of our neighbors complained they had little or no cooking utensils, glasses, etc. There are 3 AC units in the condo, all work well, and you need them in the Costa Rica heat (over 30C every day). Stephen contacted us soon after arrival to ensure we were okay. The pool is outstanding, cleaned every day early, and has the best views in the area. The only thing to bear in mind with living on the upper level of the complex is that there is a very steep hill you have to climb to get to your unit. Also, the walk to the nearest beach, Ocotal, is 15 minutes and it goes up and down hills. The walk to town, Coco, is 45 minutes on a narrow winding road with considerable traffic. As Stephen's web ad says, "car recommended". We walked into town many times and took a taxi back (5 bucks each way), but you can't walk after say 10 am because it is just too hot. Look into car rentals unless you love challenging walks. Overall, the best unit in the complex I'd say.

The view is amazing, I agree, especially first thing in the morning with your coffee and the monkeys and birds in the trees next to the Rancho.   The condo is well depicted in the photos, beautifully decorated, has comfortable furniture and is well equipped. The owner is really accessible and nice, was flexible with our special requests and super quick in his responses. The manager was very responsive to our needs and questions, plus gave us the best directions in our whole trip to Costa Rica (really hard since there are no addresses!). If you are going to Playa Ocotal, I would definitely recommend this condo. The pool is amazing, we (3 young kids and 2 adults) spent every afternoon there enjoying the magnificent view, and watching the monkeys come to the trees right next to the condo. Thanks Steven for sharing your great place with us!

  We had a terrific time in Playa Ocotal. The condo was all it was described, clean, comfortable, attractive -- made for relaxing. The grounds and pool were perfect, loved the infinity pool. It was a pleasure to come home to the condo and pool after a hot day on the CR roads. Easily stay there again, indeed we hope to do so. Father Rooster at the beach was very nice as was Playa Ocotal. As our time progressed we discovered more and more about the neighbourhood. All of which will be useful on our next visit. Thanks Michael and Steven.

• Beautiful Condo

  I stayed here for a week in October, and everything about the condo was as advertised. The pool area and the view are exactly what you see. The only thing not really shown in the pictures is that the pool is an infinity pool. The condo sits atop a hill and the mountains you see in the picture are about 1.5-2 km out in the distance. Honestly, I found that to be a bonus, as sitting in the pool and looking out over the valley and the mountains was very enjoyable. The only reason I did not give the location a 5-star rating is that Playa Ocotal does not really have much going on. It is a beautiful beach and everything, but there is only one restaurant/bar there. It is a bit of a distance from Playa del Coco (approx. 3km) which requires a drive to get to. So if you are planning on going out regularly in Playa del Coco - I would take that into consideration. All in all, this place is amazing. If I ended up back in this area, I would definitely consider staying here again.

Sitting in the pool overlooking the valley is pretty amazing. Ocotal and Coco are both quiet this time of year as it's the off season, however from December to March they become quite vibrant (in the high season you can even have a massage on the beach) - you'll just have to come back and try it again :) A car is handy especially for groceries, and travel outside the area, however for those interested, you can also rent bicycles by the hour/day or week.   Holly Molly, what a great place. We loved it. The condo was everything we expected and more! 2 bedrooms + 2 washrooms meant that we (2 couples) had our own space!!! Worked out perfectly. The condo was modern, clean and had everything we needed. Even a blender to make our afternoon pool side margaraitas. The pool was wonderful, clean and refreshing. We rented a vechicle and had no problems getting around. We could have walked to the beach, it was only 10 minutes away. There was a very good grocery store only 10 minutes away by car and they had everything we wanted but creamo for our coffee :~) Although this wasn't a "birding" trip per-say we saw lots of birds. 50 species while having morning coffee and I saw a total of 241 species during our month long stay. We went on 2 big trips, 4 nights and 2 nights, to bird different habitats and got about 160 new species on those two trips alone. Once again ~~~ a great place and Steve the owner was very helpful and full of good advice. cheers Paul

• Great and greater....

  My partner and I stayed there for a week and we still miss the great view of sitting outside the condo every morning enjoying our coffee. The property was clean and well maintained. All available resources worked properly - fridge, stove, toaster, showers and more importantly, the AC. We appreciated the added security - newly installed safe in the main bedroom and the frequent patrolling security guard all day. The pool was clean (pool boy cleaning every day) and it offers a great view of the hills ahead - just as seen in pictures. Honestly, it may be a bit tough to get to town on feet. We rented bicycles to get from the condo to Playa Coco but appreciated times when we had a car to get around. A car is definitely suggested to get around. Coming down from the condo, a right took us to Ocotal Beach. Father Rooster bar & restaurant was great to lounge and enjoy drinks. A left from the condo took us into Coco town and there were many great restaurants and souvenir shops to dine and shop in. The newly boardwalk in Coco beach was great. We even drove to a few attractions around the area. The owners were very helpful to get us started and other sightseeing tips. Overall, we would give (out of 10): - 10 for the condo, including all facilities (the safe was great) - 10 for the owners' service - 8 for restaurants and souvenir shops - 8 for attractions (based on the fact that we had a car to get to the other attractions). It was definitely a positive promoter score from us. Highly recommend a car to get around. Thai & Mark

  My two children and I stayed here for a month in June 2011. The view from the front yard (common area) is fabulous green rolling hills. Being at the top level of the Complexes you do not hear what is going on in the other levels. You do hear the Holler Monkeys who love to hang right behind the condo when it rains. We did see many monkeys Iguanas and lizards. The guards are great and step in to help you if you have any needs. They are very friendly. The beach is about ½ to 1mile walk. Coco is about a 2-3 mile walk. We chose not to rent a car and used taxis occasionally to come back from town. There are fruit stands and small markets about ½ mile towards Coco Inside the Condo, they have provided everything you need. There is a dishwasher, washer dryer, stove and refrigerator. In addition they have things you may not think about a colander, cheese grater, can opener etc… This makes it really handy when you are cooking all your meals. They provide all your linins including real beach towels that actually fit around your body. The beds are comfortable, linins are clean and not worn. It was very nice and homey. We did have a few issues and repairs that were taken care of in a timely manner. One required us to move out into another condo, which Steven took care of. That Condo was just right across the way and had very limited supplies as far as cooking had lots of bugs and was not in good repair at all. The linens where thread barren and there were few towels so beware that all the condo in this division are not as nice as Stevens. Thank you Steven for a peaceful relaxing summer vacation! Oh forgot to tell you the pool is awesome too. Also they just put a brick road up to this level which means you can get up to the parking without a four wheel drive.

I'm glad you found out unit comfortable. Our initial plan was to make it "home" for us and have everything there. When we return later this year, we'll be bringing a small rice cooker, mini food processor and a bamboo drying rack for clothes as well.   For either the adventuresome or those that want to just kick back and relax poolside A great place to go. Great restaurants within easy access. Beaches handy by car or for those wanting to stretch their legs just walk to the nearest one. Wonderful two bath, two bedroom condo...make your own fresh ingredients Mojitas or daiquiris and chill out poolside. Incredible pool...huge...no pics do it justice. Great past time drinking coffee in morning watching monkeys swing by. Recommend this spot for couples, friends or family. As much or as little to do nearby

We were down about a week ago and recently purchased all new furniture for the living room. I think any future guests will find the furnishings much more modern and comfy now!!   A week at this condo was not enough time. The picturesque location is incredible. The infinity pool is huge ...pics do not do it justice. The condo itself was spacious and comfortable and could easily be shared by two couples for a length of time. Location is ideal...short drive to several great beaches. Just down the road Father Rooster's offers fabulous meals for lunch or dinner, right on the beach at Ocotal. Drive up to Hotel Ocotal for sunset drinks, incredible views and treat yourself to a great dinner.Or if you like to cook yourself, this condo comes well equipped for that too. My personal favourite time of day was early morning with my coffee out by the gazebo watching the monkeys swinging through as they did their search each day through the trees for food. A great spot to use as home base or a great spot just to kick back, relax and watch the day as you float around in the pool. (Condo even has pool floats for this purpose.) Book and enjoy.

  My husband and I had 10 days at the condo and thoroughtly enyoyed it. We could be as busy or as lazy as we wished. Arriving at the condo we received a clean apartment and were very amazed with the views of the mountains and the infinity pool. We rented a 4x4[a must in costa rico] The condo was wonderfully stocked with kitchen necessities, 2 lovely bedrooms and bathrooms and a nice dining area and small living area.. We had close access to a shady gazebo and read a lot of books. This condo is close to nice beaches and great restaurants....and amazing views and local drives. We had access to grocery stores and usually had breakfast and possibly lunch at home then tavelled and went out for dinner.We loved father roosters. We met some other owners and renters and became good friends with them. Everyone was helpful...the Ticos are friendly and it is hot...hot hot...We saw some neat wildlife and had a pet gecco Stanley. We really needed this tranquil time and are very thankful to have chosen Costa Rica.If we were there longer we would have taken car trips to further jaunts but we were totally happy with what we did.I would go back here and wish We could sooner than later.

  My wife and I stayed for 1 week at the condo in January 2011. We had a great time. The mountain views were spectacular. The condo itself was spacious, clean, and well stocked with all the equipment we needed for cooking. The bed was comfortable (it felt like staying in a hotel), and the internet access was reliable. The pool was refreshing; we spent many of our afternoons just lounging and swimming. The days were hot (30 degrees plus) and humid, but because we were high on the side of the mountain, the evenings were comfortable. Playa Del Coco is a nice little town with plenty of restaurants and a couple of nice grocery stores if you prefer to cook at home. The beach is lovely and long. Many local fishing boats are anchored in the bay which adds to the charm. It’s a bit of a walk to the beach (approx. ½ hour) from the Condo; we mostly drove, but several others in the complex walked regularly. It all depends on your tolerance for heat. The beach at Ocotal is closer but smaller, and there are only a couple of restaurants. We enjoyed sitting at Father Roosters, sipping on cool drinks while staring out at the ocean. All in all it was a lovely trip, and we highly recommend it

  My partner and I stayed at this unit last September and will definately be booking again for next fall. The unit was spotless, fully equipped with everything we needed (including a new blender for our favourite mixed drinks!) The beach in Ocotal is quiet and serene. We loved spending time there away from everyone else. Del Coco is a great little town - many restaurants to choose from with fresh seafood. I understand they are in the middle of installing a beautiful walkway along the beach - can't wait to stroll along here at sunset. Thanks guys - and we'll be booking soon!
