Less than a week has gone, and we are already longing for the lazy lush that is The Cabin. My wife and I spent a weekend on our first wedding anniversary tucked away in the Sycamore Canyon, embraced by the foliage, flora and fauna that sweetly surround and seclude this wonderful property just mere minutes from Pfeiffer Beach. From the moment we pulled up to the property, we knew this would be a memorable stay seasoned liberally with serenity and relaxation. The wind blew ever so gently as the maple leaves swayed and waved us in as we arrived. Aesthetically-pleasing with practical interior amenities, you will not be disappointed by the care and concept that Linda and Scott have vested in this home. Cozy and conveniently located near many historical hotspots, restaurants and indulgences. A pepper-shake of highlights: * Deetjen's Big Sur Inn for breakfast - pancakes, as my wife put it, "as big as your face." * Nepenthe for lunch - great local wine, sandwiches, desserts and an amazing view (dine outside, even if it is foggy!) * Big Sur Bakery for dinner - amazing risotto and white chocolate ginger ice cream (don't knock it til you try it! Weird and wonderful.) * Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park - breathtaking view of McWay Falls - creek water emptying into the Pacific Ocean? Yes, please! Very cool. * A drive anywhere in the area on coastal Highway 1 - we had the rare treat of seeing several California Condor feeding and flighting carefree among the cliffs. A vast variety of nature-oriented and culinary-infused delights. And it would not have been the same without the restful respite of returning "home" to The Cabin at the end of the day to soak it all in and immediately reminisce. Thank you Linda and Scott, for a wonderful worry-free weekend. Hope to be back soon. Best, Matt and AprilRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My husband and I rent homes through HomeAway three or four times per year. This rental certainly topped all others. From the moment we drove in (across the softly lit bridge, past the potted trees at the foot of giant redwoods to the perfectly placed cabin that looked as though it were a part of the forest and not an addition. We were immediately so taken with the landscaping, from the buddha sitting outside the bathroom window to the little fisherman situated over the creek! Inside we immediately felt at home with the thoughtfully written notes, the reading lights on each nightstand, the fabulouis collection of CD's and great stereo. We used the beach chairs and packed beach bag twice, once to watch the sunset on the beach and once to sit on the cliffs at a turnout and have lunch (by the way there is even a cooler!). This cabin certainly matched its surroundings which are absolutely breathtaking. My husband and I both agreed that the Pfeifer Beach gave rival to our beautiful Maine coastline! Too many wonderful things about this place to get them all down in writing. You just have to go experience it for yourself.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I wrestled our adult son away from his demanding LA job for a glorious stay at this delightful retreat. Sans internet and cell, we had a perfectly blissful stay that encouraged reconnection with nature as well as each other. As former northern CA residents, it was beautifully nostalgic for us, and our son’s escape, from his busy sundrenched lifestyle to the serenity of the redwoods, was highly restorative. Pfeiffer Beach was a lovely walk away and we also took advantage of the many good hiking trails in the area. Big Sur Bakery was a plus, Nepenthe Restaurant was great for several meals, and our hosts were terrific about providing local information and hiking suggestions. The photos do not begin to do justice to the ambience and comfort of the “cabin”, or the beauty of local surroundings. It was pristine inside and out, completely serene and situated within an incredible landscape. The house was well appointed, replete with good linens, freshly ground coffee, and all the basic spices to cook on the wonderful stove. Original artwork contributed to the home-like atmosphere and the “Peeping Buddha” in the master bedroom bath lent a special moment of whimsy. We can’t wait to return and look forward to another stay soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My Husband and I got married on 10/13/12 in Ventura, CA. We wanted to have a "Mini-Moon" for a couple days, just to get away and be together before having to go back to work. I did a lot of research on nice places that would fit both our needs and the Cabin far exceeded our expectations; with all the modern amenities of home set in the middle of a Redwood Forest, it’s the most Romantic getaway you could ask for. There is no cell reception, it is the perfect spot to relax and be alone. There are some hiking trails around the cabin and about a mile down the road is Pfeiffer Beach. Pfeiffer Beach! WOW! My husband is an Armature Photographer and took some pretty amazing pictures at Sunset, we were so close and the cabin has a pass to use, we went back a couple of time. We are so looking forward to coming back and staying for a full week. Trust US, you will have an amazing time at this little cabin, you’ll fall in love all over again!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

I echo the other reviews. Everything was just perfect! Linda gave us with a warm welcome after our many delayed flights to get there. This cabin's location can't be beat--just a mile to the beach and hiking trails, set in the midst of a redwood forest. The Parkers provided everything you could ever want in their clean, well-maintained, beautiful cabin. The pictures, while beautiful, provide only a glimpse of the real essence of the place. It is truly amazing with thoughtful touches everywhere you turn, both inside and out. I was especially drawn to the reading nook (as an avid reader) and my husband enjoyed watching the movies provided. We both loved being nestled in the redwoods with beautiful landscaping all around. While we were there, we walked down to the beach (gorgeous!), hiked in Peiffer State Park and Julia Peiffer Burns State Park, drove to Carmel for mass, the beach and eating at the Hog's Breath Inn (Jim is a Clint Eastwood fan) and drove down the coast to Hearst Castle. We especially enjoyed eating at Nepenthe and found the General Store just down the road very handy. We can't wait to return!Owner response: Thank you Tamra and Jim! It was a pleasure to meet you both. We love your two page guest book entry you wrote at the cabin as well as this lovely review on your Big Sur adventure. You are an inspiration and we look very forward to your return.

Linda and Scott, Thank you for sharing your remarkable retreat with us for our honeymoon! We searched for months looking at hundreds of houses on line and your home met every one of our expectations and lived up to each of the previous visitors reviews! The comfortable bed and amazing views made it very difficult to get up in the morning. And that shower…invigorating! It was amazing to find your home so expertly tucked within inches of some of the largest redwoods we saw on our trip. Although adjacent to another house, we had complete privacy and solitude. It felt like we were miles from nowhere, but in reality so perfectly located to explore Pfeiffer Beach and the nearby parks including Pfeiffer Big Sur Park and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Even points a bit further north and south were convenient. Pebble Beach was an easy 45 minute drive north and we ended up heading that way twice: one day for an enjoyable lunch overlooking the 18th hole at Stillwaters and back again to ride horses at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Centre through forests and past colorful ice plants, sand dunes and the famed golf courses of Cypress Point and Spyglass all the way down to the ocean front. Stunning! Heading South, Limekiln state park was a fun 30 minute drive and was one of the most scenic and easiest trails to hike following picturesque streams through lots of redwoods with options to stop at Napenthe or Ventana’s on the way back. We also loved being so close to Big Sur Bakery and the adjacent and less expensive Big Sur Tap House with free internet access. Their flourless chocolate cake was de-lish! Like everyone else has indicated, we hope to be back some day to relive the wonderful memories we took home with us. Thanks again! Owner response: Dear Curt & Nancy, It makes us so happy when our humble place meets or exceeds our guest's expectations. Thank you so much! We hope you come and visit again sometime. Best, Scott & Linda

Linda and Scott, Two months have passed since our stay at the Big Sur Cabin, and my husband and I reminisce often about the memories we made together while visiting your special place. From the first steps into the cabin with the warm glow of the fireplace, to the warm and comfortable surroundings that you created to make your home feel like our home, thank you. We realize that we expressed ourselves the day we left how much we appreciated your thoughtful touches inside and outside the cabin, but we also wanted to send this short note. And to all of you who might read these few words, I would like to share one more thought if you're considering this magical hideaway. While my husband and I were driving home after a week at the Big Sur Cabin, and of course after having internet service (we never missed the internet, just incase you're wondering), we booked another full week of serenity in the spring.Owner response: Thank you very much for such a fabulous review! We enjoyed you both so much and look forward to your Spring time arrival! The most rewarding part of sharing our cabin are the people we meet. With gratitude, Linda & Scott

We were fortunate enough to spend several nights in this cabin on our Honeymoon in California. We stayed at several high end boutique hotels but this cabin was the highlight of our trip. We never met the owners but the cabin was very clean, perfectly decorated and accommodated and situated close to Pfeiffer beach (breathtaking) and several trails. Pictures can never do this cabin's beauty justice. We will definitely return here and have recommended it to everyone who has seen, as fallen in love with, our photos from the area. A few recommendations - 1. Pfeiffer beach at sunset 2. Big sur bakery - breakfast and dinner are outstanding 3. Nepenthe (sp?) - view is worth the price alone. Food and atmosphere make for a very romantic and peaceful dinner. 4. We hiked the tin cabin (?) trail which was very enjoyable but long for us since we're not very avid hikers. The tin cabin itself was more of an abandoned house which didn't look very nice to begin with. However, I write this to recommend doing some of the local hikes bookmarked in the books in the cabin. 5. Relaxing in the cabin. One day we spent without leaving the cabin grounds because there's so much to do there. 6. Star gazing. We are from Florida and the light pollution where we live completely blocks out the stars. Sitting underneath the redwoods outside the cabin and looking up at the stars with a glass of wine in hand is perfect from this location.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
