OK – here we go There is good and bad to this rental. Let’s start with the good… You are amongst very nice luxury homes with a view of the ocean, although the parked cars do block your peek-a-boo view of the water. It is a short walk to the beach. It is a very nice white sand beach in front of some extremely nice beach homes. You can walk to the shops and restaurants from there but it is a very long, both directions. We chose to drive and utilize the beach by the restaurants. Now the bad … The Kiva House is advertized as a luxury artist retreat. It was far from luxurious. It was missing many amenities and had a kind of fish bowl feel to it. The house is round and did not have any blinds or curtains on the full length windows in the front living room or kitchen so we were exposed to anyone walking their dogs or just driving by. Some of the photos on the posted ad were old. The interior was sparse. A lot of the furniture shown on the ad photos no longer existed. We had a wicker trunk coffee table, two scratchy chairs and a sofa couch in the living room, no end tables and no lamps. The bedrooms were the same way, very much in need of a true decorators touch. Exposed wires and cables in every room. The shower curtains were missing clips and hanging crooked. The bath fixtures were corroded and the vertical blinds in the bedrooms were missing sections. As far as an Artist retreat, there was only one picture in the whole house??? The walls were a stark white, the floors were a red stained concrete with a few cheap throw rugs. Be sure to bring socks or slippers, as the concrete gets cold. Could use some interior plants (real or fake) like Cheap pine kitchen table and chairs. The kitchen is ill equipped. No large pots for boiling spaghetti or corn. Only two cheap small pots. Want some toast ??? No toaster or toaster over – we used the broiler. The BBQ is rusty and old – briquettes only and no propane, as advertised. No BBQ utensils. No outdoor hot shower. The outdoor furniture is cheap plastic with weathered stained pads. Loud Freeway noise outside. In a nut shell, we expected somewhat of a luxury home since it was advertised that way. But what we got was a sub-par home, in need of many things, located in a high end community. Doing it over, we definitely would have paid even more and got a real luxury home directly on the beach. The old saying “you get what you pay for” well, this time we didn’t. Try the Four Seasons on Butterfly Beach - we should have.
