My family rented this property in July 2011. Upon arrival, the cottage was in deplorable condition; filthy, non-functioning appliances, under-furnished. The owner was there and explained that a 'winter renter' had only vacated the day before, and he had little time to prepare for our arrival. Having nowhere else to stay, and already paid in full, we had no choice but to stay in the cottage. We had to clean, from top to bottom, the entire cottage. The kitchen faucet did not work, and neither did the washing machine. The owner refused to pay a plumber to come out during the 4th of July weekend, saying he would have one out the first of the week. No plumber ever showed up and we had no choice but to repair the faucet and washing machine ourselves. Having (I thought) a good working relationship with the wife, when asked how much to reimburse us for the essential repairs we did, it was agreed that no monetary reimbursement was necessary, rather that would be our deposit for July 2012. She has since reneged on that agreement, renting to another party, even after confirming with us on January 21, 2012, that we did still want the cottage for July 2012.Owner response: This review is a petty and personal attack by a person disappointed that someone took the house before she did for the months through July. I don't know how anyone could do something so underhand, but I am not that surprised, I was expecting this next step. I can only defend our sweet little cottage by quoting from the very same renter: "I truly love that place and (my husband)and I spent the best time of our marriage there." and "I told you before, it was the best vacation I've ever had" and "never felt more at home, walking in the door" Please call us to visit the cottage if you are interested, and judge for yourself.
