Perched on the eastern slope of Acadia Mountain overlooking Somes Sound, this elegant lodge with a deep water dock and mooring at the end of a half mile private driveway was built in 2009. With Acadia National Park and a conservation trust as abutters, Acadia Lodge commands some of the most outstanding views on the island. Its location on the pristine Somes Sound adds to the serenity that you feel the moment you enter the driveway.
The interior combines rustic charm with the openness of large rooms, the living room features a Steinway grand piano in excellent condition. There is a covered porch on the north and a veranda with a barbecue on the south side. With its cedar shingled curved Asian roof, the house is discretely nestled under the neighboring cliffs and trees. It employs cedars from Acadia Mountain to support the main beams and its exterior walkways use granite from the old quarries for which the village of Hall Quarry is named. The custom-made kitchen contains top-quality appliances.
Hiking trails up Acadia and surrounding mountains are easily accessible, and Southwest Harbor is only 10 minutes by car. If you prefer walking, there are Forty-five miles of rustic carriage roads, the gift of philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. and family, which weave around the mountains and valleys of Acadia National Park.
The private dock is at the bottom of granite steps and includes two moorings.

This is an exquisite new home built on Acadia Mountain. It is very private, quiet with beautiful views and wonderful accommodations. The upper site is great venue for sunning or yoga. There is a dock area as well for boating. Nearby Acadia National Park offers numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, swimming and boating. It is an outdoor person's paradise. There are plenty of restaurants and a variety of shops in the surrounding villages. I highly recommend this property for a nice getaway!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We so enjoyed our time in Acadia Lodge. What a beautiful spot it is. We had perfect weather most of the time and so were out and about every day. Everything is nearby. My husband loved puttering about in boats and I tried to get out and discover the countryside—the hiking and biking are fabulous, but there are competing interests like lounging on one of the decks with a book or ogling the boats that pass by in Somes Sound. If ever there were a hint of fog, spending time inside the house is also a pleasure. The rooms have glorious views and are comfortably furnished. The kitchen is well designed and equipped with excellent, new appliances. Nothing is lacking in equipment. The house is brand new and is well maintained and has charm inside and out. The location is glorious beyond expectations. The photos in the listing are good, but they do not do justice to the site. Somes Sound is mesmerizing, and only occasionally does a bald eagle or a seal distract one's gaze from the water. We would recommend this property to all family, friends, and acquaintances.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

About the owner: My husband has been coming to Mount Desert Island for many years. I have just recently been introduced to this magical place and have completely fallen in love with it. Here, we have the mountains and the sea, magical mornings with the sun rising over Norumbega Mountain. Boat rides in and around the islands are a favorite pastime, as are other activities such as biking, swimming, tennis and cross country skiing. Bill finds this an inspiring place to work on his writings, and I am always happy to practise the piano in the living room overlooking Somes Sound.
Why the Owner Chose Hall Quarry:
My husband built this beautiful house with its Asian roof on the island he and his family have been coming to for several generations. Maine is the landscape of his childhood, and I have most willingly adopted it as our home for much of the year. A love of the outdoors, nature and an interest in sports were all key factors in the choice build a home here.
The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
Waking up to absolute quiet is one of the greatest benefits about staying at this property. In the evenings, all you hear is the sound of loons on the Sound. During the day, one hears the wind and the lapping of water at the dock. A family of foxes are our closest neighbors. A bald eagle is also a neighbor. There is an upper site where we hope to build someday, but for now makes the most amazing spot to practise yoga in the morning. Bicycling into town using a closeby carriage path is one of my favorite things to do and is great exercise. It takes about 20 minutes to get in to Southwest Harbor on a bike.
