The Perfect Tropical Getaway
The Perfect Tropical Getaway
The Bamboo Cottage at Hana Tropicals fit every need of my vacation. After comparing it with other accommodations, it was by far the best choice of places to stay in Hana. It was relaxing, comfortable and clean, and very convenient. Coming from a much colder climate I appreciated the lush tropical setting, waking each morning to birds singing, exotic flowers, temperatures in the 80's, and the private setting (yet it was so close to everything). The cottage provided everything needed; a full kitchen, bath, comfortable king bed, screened in lanai, washer and dryer, and beautiful atmosphere. The owners; Krista and Ian were so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the Bamboo Cottage. It was clean, very reasonably priced and very relaxing. There is lots to do in Hana and every day was a new discovery of amazing sights, incredible beaches with snorkeling, paddling, swimming, hiking, waterfalls, fresh fish, a great Thai restaurant you shouldn't miss, sight seeing and lots more. It was very relaxing with plenty to do and see, and one of the best vacations ever! Thanks Krista and Ian! Loved every minute of it! You truly have a paradise!

Wonderful and relaxing!
Wonderful and relaxing!
Two years ago we stayed at Hana Tropical's Bamboo Cottage for a week and had such an amazing vacation that this year we rented it for two weeks. It was the perfect place for us to have as a home base for daily excursions to Hamoa beach, Hana Bay, Venus Pools, Bamboo Forest, Lava Tubes, snorkeling and great Thai and Mexican foods. After two weeks of having the bamboo cottage as our home base, we managed to explore the entire island, but our favorite place in Maui is definitely Hana. The cottage is in a quiet tropical setting tucked away from Hana Highway. It was the perfect place to relax in peace and quiet. We loved morning walks along the winding paths of the flower farm and the cottage supplied us with everything we needed including a washer/dryer, full kitchen, comfortable bed, shower and screened porch. The cottage had bouquets of fresh flowers, was clean and well organized. The people at Hana Tropicals were so friendly and we felt so welcome. Even though they were busy running their farm, they went out of their way to be helpful to us. We took several trips to the other side and were always glad to return to the Bamboo Cottage. It is certainly the best deal in Hana with all the amenities of home and the beautiful quiet tropical setting can't be found in the commercialized areas. On future visits, Hana Tropicals will be our first choice of places to stay on Maui.

A Little Better Than Average
A Little Better Than Average
After reading all the reviews about this place, I will try to write the most accurate review as possible. Pros- Grounds are really pretty, and even though it is a working flower farm, you still have lots of privacy. The bed is comfortable. There were mosquito coils for the screened porch, so we didn't have any problem with mosquitoes. It had adequate kitchen utensils, but could have been stocked a bit more, especially for people who want to cook at the cottage. Cons-- I laughed when I read the owner called the place "pristine". Not so much, but not "nasty" like some others said. There was a cracked window which needs to be fixed. And the caulking around the shower is a bit stained as are a few of the tiles. Not such a big deal. The room is fairly dark during the day, even with the shades pulled up. We went out on the screened porch to get some light, but it was rather hot because there is no ceiling fan. But, the BIGGEST ISSUE I had-- this place is touted as a "romantic getaway". Too funny. The cottage is one large room with a corner of it sectioned off for a bathroom. The bathroom walls don't even go up to the ceiling. You can hear EVERYTHING when someone is using the bathroom. (and smell everything, for that matter!) Not my idea of romance. Would I stay here again? Maybe. Best value? I don't know. It was fine for a few nights. I DO know that Hana is a beautiful area, and it is definitely worth spending a night or two exploring it. Tip: If you like Thai-- go to the little Thai restaurant. The food is authentic and wonderful!

A very lovely place
A very lovely place
My sister and I wanted to stay one night in Hana, and we found this cottage. The price was right, and we loved the idea of staying inside a botanical garden! Plus it's quite close to Hana town and the beaches. When we arrived we were greeted right away by one of the owners, who brought us to the cottage and showed us around. She said we were welcome to walk around the garden, which is her business, and it's really pretty. Everyone was quite friendly, and the cottage was clean, comfortable, and well kept. My only negative (not the owner's fault!) was that as soon as we were out of the car, we were bitten up by mosquitoes. Luckily there were none in the cottage itself, and the owner provided something like a coil of incense we burned that kept them out of the screened-in porch too. I'd stay again, but would not get out of the car without slathering on insect repellent! Altogether, though, we were very happy with this place.

A fun getaway...
A fun getaway...
This review is a little late as we stayed in July but I have wanted to write to tell you what a great time we had! My mother lives in Maui on the West side and we wanted to do something different At first when we pulled up my 15 year old said no way is she staying there--way to small....but the time we were leaving she was begging me to stay one more night!! We found it to be perfect for the money, the location and the space. The grounds are beautiful! And the staff in the store/shop were extremely helpful. The only suggestion we would have is in your ad to state more of what the house has kitchen wise. We brought so much stuff we didn't mean like a coffee pot and towels because we weren't sure--and you had everything!! We did end up buying bug spray and some candles for outside when we ate dinner. We talked about the tiki torches that have bug repellent in them as a suggestion. But other than that we LOVED IT!! I have and will continue to recommend it and hope to be back one day! ALOHA!!

Wrongly represented - great disapointment!
Wrongly represented - great disapointment!
It has taken a while to decide to write - 4 of us had booked this place - and the whole thing was a grave disappointment. There was no one there when we arrived. Took a while to track someone down - found this place much as described by the Jan 2013 visitors. Flushed the toilet and found it was emptying under the cottage. Took a shower - base all cracked - bathroom floor spongy. Put down bath mat and before even stepping on it, it was soaked from what was under the flooring. Complained re toilet emptying under building and while out that day it was 'fixed' - next day when flushing toilet it overflowed (and no, there was not a bunch of stuff in it) - it was simply plugged. I am amazed at the positive reviews as I found this place absolutely abismal and the owner more 'absent' than helpful and would NEVER recommend it to anyone. I hate to be other than constuctive in my comments but this was the biggest overcharged waste of my money - ever! It needs to be taken down and totally re-done. I definitely would recommend visiting Hana Town - a beautiful spot. For dining the Hana Hotel was excellent and there was an awesome Thai restaurant there (don't remember the name).

Owner response: Our cottage does not have a leaky floor and it is in pristine condition. Our Cottage is a very nice place to stay and we like to keep it that way. We are very thankful for having such a romantic and private place for visitors to come and stay at while they are on their honeymoon or just enjoying the east side of Maui. We are always on the property and available to assist our guests. Our cottage is nothing like what this review states and it is sad to read such a horrible description. All of our guests love staying in such a beautiful tropical rain forest setting and leave very refreshed or we would not even continue to provide such a place for guests to come and relax while they stay in Hana. Yes our cottage is clean and bug free and by far still the best value for a lovely cottage centrally located in Hana. We do not agree with this review at all. Aloha!
Perfect One Night Stay
Perfect One Night Stay
Wish we could have stayed longer. Arrived around 7pm, made dinner with their gas grill and ate on the screened porch. I am a magnet for mosquitos so this was very much appreciated. Everything shown in the photos is accurate and it was clean. It's setting is ideal, as it's located on a tropical flower farm. The next morning we enjoyed watching the chickens roam, walked around the farm and purchased an arrangement for BFs mum. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! Mahalo Krista and Ian for the wonderful hospitality!

Beautiful & Quaint
Beautiful & Quaint
Our stay at the bamboo cottage was wonderful. We were surrounded by the beautiful tropics and only minutes away from Hana Bay. When we arrived we were met by the owners who were very polite and excited for our stay. We had already booked months ago and then read that recent negative review that was posted saying they were pretty disappointed which kind of gave us a scare. It was very unfortunate for them though as they definitely cleaned up since then and we had no problems whatsoever. The cottage was very neat, clean, and simple. And the surrounding was just so peaceful and serene. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in Hana. It truly is a hidden gem in Hawaii this beautiful town and we only wish we had stayed longer. We'd love to say thank-you to the owners and for accommodating us there at their lovely cottage.

This was the 4th and last vacation home rental we stayed at during our 2 week trip to HI. Based on the reviews, we were expecting modest, but clean and comfortable. Sadly, we were really disappointed. We arrived after driving the road to Hana and got there at about 7pm on our check in date. We pulled up to the main house and someone came out to greet us. We told them we were checking in and they seemed confused, stating that they didn't have us on their schedule. They asked if we had eaten dinner, which we had. Then another man came out, apologized and basically said the same thing. They said they would need at least an hour to get the cottage ready for us. We went into town and had a nice drink at the Hotel Hana and came back at about 9pm. We pulled up to the main house but no one came out so we went to the cottage and found the keys there and the cottage seemingly ready for us. At first glance it seemed alright ish. Looking closer, we realized the screened in lanai had wholes in the screens, which let lots of mosquito in, making the lanai basically unusable. The kitchenette area and bathroom area need to be gutted and replaced. The counter was chipped in the kitchen and the shower stall and flooring are rotting and ..."nasty" is the only word that comes to mind. The entire cottage needs a very thorough deep clean, there was hair, dirt and dust all over the floors, under the bed, etc. We were hoping for shabby chic, but it was anything but and definitely not romantic. I wanted to leave after the first night, but the options were limited so, we toughed it out. I would never recommend this place to anyone looking for anything more than a place to crash who doesn't mind dirt and bugs. I am really struggling to understand how it has gotten so many good reviews.

Owner response: We always encourage our guests to check in as close to 3pm as possible and some people choose to wait much later and do not inform us that they will be arriving late. However we are always available to check our guests in and always keep a very accurate calendar. We have had so many wonderful visitors over the years come and enjoy our lovely cottage. This review of our cottage sounds completely absurd in our opinion and honestly quite ridiculous. Our cottage is lovely and clean and the lanai screen has no holes in it. We always do our best to keep our cottage clean and we offer a great place to stay that is very romantic. We do not agree with this post at all and if this was the case we would never have anyone stay at our cottage because that would be ridiculous so if you read this be sure that we still offer the best value in Hana and our cottage is a wonderful place to stay! These people claimed they stayed last year yet this review is recently posted which is very strange as well so feel free to read all of our reviews before you decide to stay or not if you like. Aloha!
Flew into Maui, and rented a car, stopped at the grocery and reach the cottage before sunset. Great Drive. Checked-in what a delight met by several little creatures, ( all friendly) of course. Off to thr Bamboo cottage. We were met by the TSA agent Mr. Kitty once we got his approval we entered our delighful accommadations. Tropical paradise, Quiet, it rained everynight I love sleeping when you can hear it rain. This is a tropical flower farm and you can walk or hike on the property and see such beauty. I will do it again. My thanks to everyone at the farm, and Merry Christmas Hope to see you again.
