This is a gorgeous Mexican home in upper Ajijic at Lake Chapala. It is 2 stories plus a full private rooftop mirador with an outside double Jacuzzi tub and 360 degree view of the mountains, village and lake.

Entering the front gate there is a beautiful container garden and a huge wall mural of a village street and houses giving a realistic illusion. Stunning open concept, living room, dining room and kitchen. Colorful Mexican decor throughout. Guest bedroom and full bath on main floor as well. The 2nd floor is a huge loft like master bedroom with 12 foot ceilings, big terrace, and large bath with Jacuzzi and shower. Also large walk in closet with vanity. Beautiful cathedral window with exquisite stained glass of a peacock at the top of the stairs on the landing. There is a spiral circular staircase to the roof (mirador). Up here is another bedroom with a full bath (in addition to the outside double Jacuzzi) laundry facilities. a small fridge, two comfortable sun lounge beds and plenty of open space with unobstructed exquisite views in every direction......mountains close behind and village and magnificent church sloping off towards the lake in front.

Situated on the upper slope of Ajijic the house is centrally located and a short walk to just about everything, the Wednesday market (a must see), the finest restaurants, the village plaza where all kinds of events take place regularly, art galleries, boutiques, the auditorium, Lake Chapala Society, bars, clubs, and dancing venues and much more. There are world class spas close by as well as hot springs. Come see the village life where horses and cars still share the same streets and Mexican music fills the air. The lake is Mexico's largest, 60 miles long. National Geographic says that this location has the best weather in the world. It is not cold in the winter and not too hot in the summer. It is a dry heat and the lake keeps the temperature moderate so residents have no need of either heaters or air conditioners. This area is the largest retirement community for Canadians and Americans outside of Florida so there are several thousand of us here. That means all kinds of familiar clubs, associations and groups and you can even get by with no Spanish! Guadalajara is only an hour away and the airport just a half hour. A direct bus for $4.00 can take you into walking distance of historic downtown Guadalajara with it's magnificent cathedrals and architecture, something you will want to experience.

(Please note that National Geographic states that this area has the best weather in the world. Not cold in winter or too hot in summer...it is moderated by the lake and is at an elevation of 5000 feet. There is very little humidity, it is a dry heat. So any time of year the weather can be counted on to be awesome.)

My husband, sister and I just spent a week in Ajijic in this gorgeous home and loved every minute of it. As one can see from the pictures, this home is filled with beautiful tile work and lovely art. We spent every morning on the mirador just soaking up the sights and sounds of Mexico as we sipped our morning coffee. We walked to the village every day and delighted in the restaurants, especially those with mariachi music and we also jumped on the convenient bus line to explore other areas along Lake Chapala. We especially enjoyed Chapala with its Mexican charm.. Being seniors most nights we opted to cook in and then settle in to enjoy some of our favorite television programs on the satellite TV. I do believe that Ajijic has captured our hearts thanks largely to the comfort and beauty of this residence. The owner is a gem, very helpful and personable. I can't recommend it enough!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 months. Mid July through mid September. The house is as beautiful as the pictures and maybe even a little more so. On our arrival, Daniel met us and took us on a short tour of the area. Almost everything is within easy walking distance. For the trips to Walmart and Super lake, the bus is just down the hill a couple of blocks. The weather was exellent and we enjoyed the mirador almost every evening. The view from the mirador is beautiful and I got some very good pictures from there. All of the Mexican people were very friendly. We never felt uncomfortable even walking late in the evening . All and all, the stay was great and we would like to do it again.

My wife and I stayed here for a month. We had wanted to live in a neighbourhood not made up solely of expats. There is certainly an incursion of them here, but it is much more a Mexican area than serves many of the available rentals. As such, there are children and pets--the dogs are a distraction sometimes, but at least are capable of letting you know that the Mexicans are more patient with their neighbours than you likely are at home. The house itself was perfect. We had no need of a second bedroom, much less a third, nor of 3 bathrooms. But it was true luxury to have a bath on each of the 3 floors, and the ground floor bedroom would have been fine if the master were not so special. With open windows, and an occasional use of the overhead fan, we were very comfortable even during what we're told is a hot month in Ajijic. The mirador was remarkable. I love the sun; my wife likes the shade--we were both able to find comfort up there. And the sunsets (and sunrises) are really quite spectacular. We did not rent a car, and walked everywhere. The cobblestone streets are hard for some folk, but didn't cause any concerns for us--though I took my morning runs along the carretera. That, by the way, has a very wide area along both sides used only by buses, an occasional turning car, pedestrians and cyclists. There's a small store just around the corner with basics, the El Torito supermarket about 6 or 7 minutes away on foot, and the weekly market is right beside it. The town's central square is less than a 15 minute easy walk. The kitchen was fine--although we arrived a bit early and the owner hadn't completed cleaning up. We inherited some dishes a previous tenant hadn't done much of a job on, and an oven that really needed cleaning--we didn't use it or clean it. Nice new BBQ. Wifi worked well, and the Canadian satellite TV package let me watch hockey until my team lost, and some Blue Jays games as well. In short, it was a comfortable and very relaxing stay in lovely surroundings. Daniel, the owner, was responsive when asked something, and there wasn't a hitch at all in our dealings with him.

Owner response: Sorry about the kitchen. It was a scheduling and timing problem that won't happen again. I also wasn't aware of the oven, and the maid also. It will definitely be part of the checklist from now on.

What a wonderful Experience and vacation staying in this beautifully decorated villa. Tucked away in the hills, is a romantic paradise stay. The attention to detail and spacious rooms were remarkable. My fiance and I were attending a wedding in Ajijic and I decided to have some plastic surgery. With 3 stories in the house, I was able to make my luxurious bathroom my own downstairs. We especially enjoyed having Donas Donuts (a short walk away) while sipping Mexican cinnamon coffee on our Mirador in the mornings. The master bedroom was fantastic for an afternoon nap, surrounded by open air windows if wanted. We never had to rent a car because we could walk most everywhere that we wanted. If we wanted to ride, taxis are very easy to find. The rental manager was helpful and kind. The hot tub on the mirador was an added bonus to enjoy the beautiful weather Ajijic has to offer. My fiance and I can't wait to return and stay here for our honeymoon.!
