We recently stayed in this lovely apartment with our children (4 and 2 years old). Upon entering, I simply said, "Wow!" It was so spacious, warm, cozy and clean. My husband said it felt like a junior suite at a very nice hotel. We worried about not having a bath with two small children, but the shower was so large (and with great water pressure,) that it wasn't a problem by any means. The kitchen was well-stocked and it was ideal for us to have an open-plan area so the children could play or watch a movie while we cooked and still be within eyesight. The location was ideal- close to Princes Street, Stockbridge and local grocery shops. It was a much less stressful break being able to eat "at home" in the evening with the children (cheaper, too). The only thing that would have improved the flat, for us personally, would have been a high-chair or booster seat. But I certainly don't expect owners to provide these things. So, if you are travelling with children, you may want to bring a travel chair for smaller ones. Jackie is friendly and easy to correspond with. We liked the apartment so much that we are staying again on our next trip over in 2 months and expect that this will be our new base whenever we visit Edinburgh.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children.

Jackie was wonderful to communicate with during the planning stages of our trip - and everything in the quaint, updated flat was as advertised. We stayed for a week with our almost-two year old daughter and Jackie helped us coordinate a rental crib through Tom Thumb at a discounted rate. Having a kitchen and living space were hugely helpful, and though there was initially a small hiccup with the washing machine (no dryer - as they aren't standard in the UK), there was a great laundromat down the street on Cannon Mills that did our laundry for us. Getting to Prince Street is a relatively short walk uphill and we generally found the place wonderfully situated. It's worth noting that this is a "basement" flat and therefore accessing the apartment requires descending a few steep steps. It was a bit tricky with a baby carriage but didn't detract from our stay. We'd highly recommend! Also, try "Alba D'Oro" just down the street for phenomenal Fish and Chips and Henderson's for awesome vegetarian food!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

My daughter and I spent two weeks in this lovely apartment. It was just 'as advertised' -- spacious, well-equipped, and clean. The location is excellent with easy access to the Old Town and central to everything in New Town. We came to get my daughter settled for her studies at the University of Edinburgh and found this apartment to be just perfect for our needs. Stockbridge and Dean Village are nearby and well worth a visit. The Stockbridge farmers market (every Sunday throughout the year) was a great place to pick up gourmet meals. Unlike many vacationers, we at most dinners at the apartment. A few additional utensils (such as a cheese grater, salad spinner, garlic press) would have made dinner preparation a bit easier. But overall, the kitchen was equipped with all the necessities. The apartment truly provided a very comfortable and relaxed home away from home. The area of New Town/Stockbridge is a delight. Jackie was very helpful in answering all questions.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

We really appreciated Jackie's responsiveness to our questions and with making arrangements. The apartment was in a great location and within close walking distance to neighborly Stockbridge and all the conveniences. The apartment is well maintained and clean. We really appreciated the thoughtfulness that had gone into anticipating what people need and want when renting and how the furnishings reflected a desire to make people feel comfortable and "at home." The professionalism and pleasantness which we experienced is all one could hope for in renting and we are very much looking forward to our return to Jackie's apartment.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

Upon arriving to our Cumberland Street apartment, we were pleased at how spacious, clean, and modern the unit was. It was very comfortable and felt like "home" during our nine day stay. It was so nice to enjoy coffee and breakfast in the morning and plan our day of adventures. We did several walkabouts to different neighbourhoods and sites as the apartment is centrally located to almost everything. We took advantage of visiting the restaurants around the neighbourhood or close to Princes Street and visited many of the local pubs...all so unique! The king size bed was very comfortable and provided a good night's sleep after touring the city all day long. There was a couple of nights where we dined in and everything we needed was available in the well-stocked kitchen. It was also a treat to be able to do a load of laundry before we continued on our travels to the Isle of Skye and then to Finland. We will definitely be recommending this apartment to any friends/relatives who may be travelling to Edinburgh!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

I stayed in this apt for 2 months during April and May 2012. I could not have asked for a better location. It was very central to the tourist attractions and very central when I was traveling out of Edinburgh. The stairs are tricky but soon mastered. Hearing the church bells ring every hour is very soothing. I was solo the whole time and I never felt alarmed by crime. You have two great pubs on the the ends of Cumberland, so establish your self and you will always have friends around. Jackie was a great landlady, very responsive when there were questions.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

A lovely flat in a great location. Easy to find--10 minutes to the train station (waverly). There are grocery stores nearby, which was handy for buying food for breakfast, snacks, etc. Edinburgh is a great city to explore, and it's easy to walk anywhere from this flat! The street was quiet as well, which was nice at night. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to spend time in Edinburgh! It really was perfect.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children.

We like to really get to know a place and the people and this wonderful apartment provided the perfect location to get to know Edinburgh and Scotland. We rented it for a month so that we would have the ability to see Scotland at our own pace. Our only regret is that we didn't take time early to explore Stockbridge, the community very near the apt to the north, and so only found the game butcher and local weekend market there during the last week of our stay. We specifically wanted to avoid having a rental car, and the location, with small markets within half a block and a large Tesco 20 minutes walk away, was perfect. The no 23 and 27 buses stop very near Cumberland St. so getting around by bus when we were tired of walking was easy. There are two perfectly located pubs at both ends of Cumberland St., so we used the near one as our local, and went to the other for Quiz Night. The apartment is very sunny, despite being below grade level because of the wide setback from the street. The stairs down, while steep, are in good repair. They might be a problem for some, but we are in our 60's and they were perfectly doable by us. Jackie and her husband maintain the apartment themselves, and we found it to be perfectly maintained. A small problem arose, which we were more than willing to fix with their permission, was attended to by Jackie's husband that evening on his way home from work. The manuals left for all the appliances made them easy to figure out despite the differences in US, which we are used to, and British standards. The wifi was more reliable than ours in Virginia. By using the many coach tour services available in Edinburgh and the train to Glasgow, we were able to see much of Scotland from our lovely apartment home. We particularly recommend the tour services of Real Scottish Journeys. We had thought this would be our only trip to Scotland, but now we have found more we want to see and do, and will probably come back--here--someday. We would recommend this property in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

Loved the unit. It was clean, modern, yet homey. Excellent TV reception, comfortable bed, big towels washer and thoughtful touches--like a big umbrella available. It was a 10 to 15 minute walk to Queen and Princes Street (shopping from high end to tourist). Five minutes from several groceries and good neighborhood restaurants. And, 20 minutes up to the High Street shops, fine restaurants, and historic sights including Edinburgh Castle. Big plus, unlike the Princes and High Street hotels, it was in a quiet family neighborhood on a quiet lane. We would definitely use it again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.
