Why the Owner Chose Pilon
We have travelled the Caribbean and Southern Climes and fell in love with this charming house in the beautiful hills of Vieques Island. Everyone who experiences time here feels the same as we do about La Escapada. It is a special home for all to enjoy and is indeed an enchanted place. The bioluminescent bay is a MUST see and experience whether by pontoon or kayak. This is a very casual island with all creature comforts but no pretenses. Men: Bring a pair of flip flops, a swim suit, shorts and perhaps a hawaiian shirt and you are good to go anywhere. Ladies: a sundress or sarong will do just fine. Come be as comfortable as you want to be.

Beach or pool today? Make lunch or try one of the delicious island cafes? Those are your primary decisions here at La Escapada. You cannot go wrong either way. Vieques beaches are among the most secluded in the world with no concession stands or thronging masses. Our pool is surrounded by beautiful palms under the sun all morning and afternoon and is magical under the star studded skies at night. You have many excellent dining establishments to choose for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Or just stay home and enjoy each other's company over a glass of wine or island cocktail. This is a very romantic retreat!

We have have been bragging about this island vacation home for years. If you want a romantic get-away, then this is it! For selfish reasons, I hope this beautiful home doesn't get too hard to rent as we try to get here at least once a year and we hope we can start coming even more often. I agree with the other reviews about this relaxing island home, the beaches, the funky cool bars and restaurants, and how bio-bay is a must. Since we live in a tourist Florida beach community, it is so nice to visit an friendly, and laid-back island that does not have stop lights, has no buildings on the beach, and has horses running wild. It is fun to drive your jeep around the winding, hilly, canopy roads to the remote and pristine beaches. We LOVE Vieques & La Escapada!!!

Centrally located just minutes from the Airport, ocean side restaurants, bars and tremendous beaches sits this beautiful property. Perfect for a couple or family, La Escapada has all the accommodations to make your visit to Vieques one you will never forget. Pack a lunch and experience one of the many remote beaches with only a handful of others. Or schedule a day to simply chill around the pool. It was my first trip to Vieques but we'll be back and I'll be sure to book my stay at La Escapada!

My wife and I, along with another couple visited La Escapada last year. We were interested in a "get-away" type of vacation, but wanted something different from the traditional Caribbean beach we would have to share with others. As soon as the single-engine commuter plane landed at the Vieques airport, we knew we would experience a different kind of vacation. As we drove away from the airport, we quickly knew we were dropping back into another time - no four lane highways, no strip-malls, no factory buildings, no stop-lights. On the narrow road to the house, we saw wild horses running free across unfenced hills (they are common on the island). The house sits well back from the road, surrounded by beautiful plantings and accessed via a gated entrance. The house was in excellent condition and provided everything we needed during our stay. The beautiful pool became our anchor spot whenever we were not out exploring the island's unique offerings. While our main focus was to do as little as possible, we definitely took the time to visit the numerous beaches, which are not only pristine, but almost totally uninhabited. The bio-bay is a must! We ventured out at night both on the group pontoon boat and in kayaks. It was absolutely fascinating to watch the virtual explosion of the micro-organisms whenever you dipped your oar into the water. There was also a nice variety of restaurants to choose from and a fun nightlife scene. Our week flew by way too fast, but we all agreed that La Escapada provided everything we had hoped for and a return visit will definitely be in our futures.

We stayed at La Escapada earlier this year and everything about our vacation was wonderful. The listing is totally accurate but even these lovely pictures don't do it justice. The grounds are beautiful, very private. We saw wild horses galloping through the island every morning....really cool. The pool is big, beautiful and clean. The beaches are close and also very private and low-key with gorgeous, warm, turquoise water. The owners were most helpful with any questions that we had and also gave us lots of suggestions about what to do, where to eat, etc. We couldn't have been happier and can't wait to go back!

My husband and I desperately needed to get away and we recently stayed at La Escapada. Friends had recommended Vieques and since we had never been there, we decided to try it. We were not disappointed. La Escapada is set back from the road and sits on 2 acres of land. It is very private. If you look really hard, you can actually see the ocean. Almost every morning we picked our own fruit from the trees on the property. It was unbelievable. The pool is huge and immaculate, and I mean immaculate. Cleaner than any hotel!! The inside is charming. The pictures don't do this place justice. The kitchen is average but has everything you would need. The dining area and living area are open and surrounded by windows. The two bedrooms are good size, each with it's own bathroom. The mattresses were also very comfortable. Although there is no air conditioning, you won't need it. There is a breeze that comes from the ocean and keeps the home cool, especially at night. Even though La Escapada is very private,it's close to everything. There are several beautiful beaches to choose from as well as many restaurants. If you want some action, it's only 5 minutes away. The owners were great in that they recommended several restaurants, beaches that had some shade, and a couple of "touristy" attractions that they felt were "do not miss". Oh, and did I mention that we had cell service!! We were able to talk to our kids every day. We loved this place and will be back.

If you truly want to escape to paradise , this is the home and the very spot to do it. We can't say enough about the atmosphere of this tropical paradise of a home. The grounds are beautiful,and emaculate, the in-ground pool bekons you each day. You may not want to get out of the water ! Did we mention the spectacular views from the wrap around veranda ?. Every aspect of this home is top notch.. rooms are delightful, kitchen, dining area, 2 bedrooms all are truly worthy of being a destination to escape to. The difficult part is packing up to return home ! So while your there enjoy the area beaches which are all close by about 15 min , restaurants too ! We will never forget our first stay here and every day we look forward to our next trip back.. Bob , and Carol
