Indoor/Outdoor Living with Spectacular Sunset Views!
- Minimum stay:8-30 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Crowded beaches, urban sprawl, traffic jams, and long lines in make-believe magic kingdoms…not the Florida vacation you were thinking of? There is still a place where the unspoiled natural beauty remains as it was 50 years ago. Where the pace is still island time and the natives are very friendly.
One Particular Harbour is located on the Atlantic side of Ramrod Key at mile marker 27.5 on the edge of the Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary and in the middle of the Great Heron Refuge. A wide screen enclosed porch surrounds the main living area on three sides. In the backyard, the porch faces our private dock on a free flowing canal with direct access to the ocean. The front porch has an uninterrupted sunset view overlooking a shallow water bay and natural mangrove wetlands with Niles Channel and Summerland Key off in the distance. And the adjacent vacant lot to the south is completely landscaped with coconut palms and natural plants which provide a level of privacy that makes you feels like you are in your own secluded tropical sanctuary. But what really makes this house so special is the indoor outdoor living. Open all the french doors surrounding the living room and enjoy the cool breezes and spectacular sunset views.
After a restful night on our memory foam topped beds, rise early, and step through the French doors from your bedroom onto the screen enclosed porch. If you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of wading birds like, scarlet ibis, rosette spoonbills, and blue and white herons feeding in the shallow salt pond right outside your doorstep. You might even spot one of the tiny key deer, as they forage for their morning meal. Sit back and relax as you enjoy a fresh brewed coffee and the cool morning breeze. You’re on island time and there’s nothing more important to do than enjoy the beauty of nature as it unfolds before you, letting the stresses from the real world melt away.
Embrace the new day by riding our bicycles up to Five Brothers Market for some authentic Cuban coffee and a fresh baked Cuban pastry. After the refreshing bike ride you find yourself energized and starting to get hungry. You decide to join the locals over at the Big Pine Coffee Shop, just a short five-minute drive away. The smells of their great breakfast specials, eggs, pancakes, and bacon fill the air. You grab a seat next to a couple of locals and find out where the fish are biting. When you get back to the cottage you mosey down to the dock in the backyard just in time to see the Kokomo Cat dive boat pass by on its way out to Looe Key for the first dive of the day. All the divers give a friendly wave as the boat passes by, and it reminds you of just how welcoming this special place is.
What’s next? Do you load up the boat and head to the blue water to catch Dolphin (mahi-mahi), Kings and Sails; or maybe hit the flats in the backcountry for some Bones, Permit or Tarpon? Or should you head out to Looe Key and do some diving or snorkeling on the reef? Better yet, if it’s lobsters season, head out to just about anywhere and catch your limit of this local delicacy. Fresh Florida lobster on the grill for lunch, now that’s a real treat!!
Maybe you have something a little more adventurous in mind and a stay at One Particular Harbour includes unlimited use of two tandem kayaks. So, how about a kayaking tour through the mangrove tunnels of five-mile creek, or paddle out to Tarpon Belly Key to check out the remnants of the old shrimp farm that was once there. And for real excitement, how about an unforgettable, nighttime guided kayak tour of the backcountry, offered only during the monthly full moon. Experience the amazing bioluminescence that makes every paddle stroke a magical swirling emerald green explosion of lights in the water. And before the moon rises, see the full majesty of the Milky Way in the night sky, far away from any Earthly lights.
Then again, maybe you prefer to just take it easy. In that case grab your sunscreen, lawn chair, Buffett CDs, and take your boat or our kayaks out to Picnic Island. Located in the middle of New Found Harbor, the island is only accessible by boat and is just a few hundred yards from the mouth of our canal. With it’s sandy beach, Picnic Island is a very popular spot with locals on the weekends, but is pretty much deserted during the week.
No boat, no problem, just head over to Bahia Honda State Park, a short 10 minutes away, and see why it is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 beaches in America. Or make plans to rent a boat from the nearby Dolphin Marina on Little Torch Key. They can even arrange to have the boat delivered to the house and tied up to the dock awaiting your arrival.
Be sure and save some time during your stay to visit historic Key West. It’s just a short 23-mile drive away, through the most breathtaking, scenic section of the famous overseas highway. In Key West, take the Conch Train tour; visit Ernest Hemingway’s house, and then Mel Fisher’s Museum where they display the remarkable treasures from the Spanish Galleon the Atocha, shipwrecked in 1622.
Have your picture taken at the Southernmost Point, and then head over to famous Duval Street and do the “Duval Crawl” down to Sloppy Joe’s, Margaritaville, the Hog’s Breath Saloon, Captain Tony’s, Schooner Warf, and finally head over to Mallory dock for the nightly sunset celebration.
When you’ve had your fill of the weird, wild, and wacky, leave the tourists, noise, and congestion behind and head back to the peace and tranquility of your secluded tropical sanctuary.
Once you’ve visited Key West, you may also want to check out the restaurants and nightlife a little closer to home. Both the Tiki Bar and Boondocks are fun local hangouts, and feature good food, a full bar, and live music nightly. They are both just up at the end of our street and easy walking distance from the house. The famous No Name Pub is on Big Pine Key, along with several other good restaurants, including Rob’s Island Grill a great sports bar. Mangrove Mamma’s is on Cudjo, and for a five star dining experience you can make reservations for a private ferry to take you out to the exclusive Little Palm Island Resort to eat at their award-winning restaurant.
There is something for everyone at One Particular Harbour, so what are you waiting for? You don’t have to leave the Country to find your own tropical paradise. Start planning your own good times, down in the Caribbean sunshine, so far away from the everyday, contact us today!

Just wanted to let you know that my wife and I had a wonderful time; you have a beautiful home. The description and photos accurately describe the home; except for the sunset views, you have to see those in person. The home was in excellent condition, we loved how bright and open it was. The wrap around porch is perfect for watching the sunsets or enjoying a meal. We especially enjoyed being able to use the kayaks, the canal was great for getting out to open water. The home is in a great location, we loved how calm it was but still only a short drive away from Key West. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful; he was able to recommend some fishing charters. I would highly recommend staying here, also No name pub is great for pizza and bring a camera to take pictures of all the Key Deer that roam around Big Pine Key. When we plan our next trip to the keys we will be staying here again!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Our stay here was everything we hoped it would be, and the month really flew by. The views all around were spectacular and just as depicted in the promotional photos, but really, you have to be there. With only minor exceptions, we found the house to be in excellent condition. It's bright and airy, and we felt right at home even on the first day. The owner was extremely friendly and called about once a week to see how we were doing and what we needed. We would recommend this property to anyone except during February and March. We want it for ourselves during those two months, even with the wind. We were very much looking forward to kayaking, exploring the salt marsh, snorkeling, and visiting Picnic Island, but incredibly, we were so busy doing other things (fishing mostly) that we didn't do any of those other things. Next year for sure. We went into Key West several times, had a wonderful breakfast at COCO's, had a delicious dinner at Boondock's, and spent an evening or 10 at the Tiki Bar. We're already looking forward to next year. We just hope it's not as windy.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our month at this home and have already reserved two months next year. The location is perfect - quiet yet close to restaraunts, bars and stores. Key West is just a short and beautiful ride away. John is the perfect host. When we did encounter a problem, he addressed it quickly and without disrupting our vacation. He checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The home is clean, well maintained and well stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We took our boat and enjoyed fishing and boat riding. The canals and salt pond are great for kayaking. The wrap around porch is perfect for watching the sunset, enjoying a meal or just relaxing. This home is truly a special harbor.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Johns home made for a fantastic getaway! My family stayed for a week and the house was as depicted. It was clean and the owner (John) was very helpful. The boys in our party came by boat from SW FL and we had no problem getting to the house by water. The dock accommodation was fine and the boat well protected from wind and waves. The home is just a short ride from Looe Key and deep water for dolphin fishing or fishing the edge of the reef. Looe key is awesome! We also went to Key West for a day because it's just a short ride by car. There are great places to eat or go for happy hour such as Boondocks or The No Name Pub within a short distance of the house. The No Name Pub is a must go for any pizza lovers. The key dear roam all around on Big Pine Key on your way to the No Name Pub so bring the camera. I'm rating our stay a 5. There was nothing lacking and the view from the wrap around screened in lanai is hard to beat! Highly recommend staying here. Boat access and proximity to Key West are a huge plus in my book. Thanks John!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I wanted to let you know we had a such a wonderful time!! This was our first experience staying at a home and we were not sure what to expect. Honestly it was just as you promised. Your home is lovely and the screened in porch all around really added to the living space. We actually never sat at the dinning room table. We ate all of our meals on the dock side of the deck and started several evening watching the sunset. Ramrod Key is such a great location. There are a number of great places to eat and this year we discovered 5 Brothers. Their Cuban food was wonderful. We made several trips to Key West which is always fun and we even got to see Howard Livingston at Boondock Friday night before we left. Although I did not want to have to work while on vacation your WiFi allowed me to still be a part of everything. I sat at the dock with my husband and the other couple and could still click away. LOL. We brought our inflatable. It is a 10' Achilles. We docked on the canal and took it out every day that we did not rent a boat. It was so much fun. Our two days of fishing with the boat rental was also memorable. Everything we did was so much fun, the weather was perfect and your home was the best touch to the trip Your Particular Harbor kicked off Spring 2012 boating season at our Particular Harbor in Ohio.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We spent three months at "One Particular Harbor". This is a great house that is very comfortable. The pictures & information on VRBO are perfectly accurate. This house is close to the market, restaurants and Key West. We are going to miss the gorgeous sunsets most of all. We loved the screened in porches. There is always a beautiful breeze here. We would definately recommend this house to anyone. John, the owner is very accommodating and the caretakers Jen and Mark are there if there is anything you might need. Thank you John for sharing your beautiful home with us.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, sightseeing.

John (owner) was extremely helpful in ensuring our stay at his beautiful home was enjoyable. This home was just as it was listed. Our family had a wonderful time here. It is located close enough to Key West to enjoy the amenities there, but a relaxing place, with beautiful views to come back to. The outdoor shower is handy to use after time at the beach! We will certainly make a return trip. Thank you.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

One word: PARADISE! We enjoyed our stay at One Particular Harbour and hope to return next year. The house is spotless and spacious with plenty of linens and kitchen supplies. We enjoyed the private dock for fishing and we did very well. The sunset view every evening from the front porch was beautiful. Another plus is you are only 25 minutes from Key West and there are plenty of great restaurants in KW ours was the Rum Barrel. We recommend One Particular Harbour if you are planning a trip to the Keys!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We spent the month of October 2011 at "One Particular Harbour" and loved it! We plan to go back next year. The house is comfortable and well equipped with a view of beautiful afternoon sunsets in front and the canal from the back. The owner provided us with good information about the area, even a map to the public boat ramp so we could launch our boat and keep it in the water on the backside of the house. The house is convenient to restaurants, groceries and just a short drive to Key West. What sold us on selecting this house is the description the owner provides on this VRBO website. It is very accurate! I would absolutely recommend this listing to friends and relatives. We look forward to next year and hope to do much more snorkeling, fishing and lobstering.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 1991
About the owner: I grew up in the Miami area and moved to New Orleans after graduating college. After 18 years I returned to living Floridays and settled in Sarasota on the Southwest Coast of Florida. A lifetime fan of Jimmy Buffett, I was inspired to buy my own piece of paradise in the unspoiled Lower Keys where I designed and built my own 'One Particular Harbour'. Since then, I have enjoyed sharing this special vacation home with others searching for their own tropical sanctuary.
Why the Owner Chose Ramrod Key:
We looked all over the Keys and on the west coast of Florida before buying this property. What really sold me on the location was the beautiful sunset views. When we build our home there were only about 6 other houses on the street and they all had cistern for drinking water. We had to extend the city waterline down 1/4 mile to our house, which eventually led to the other homes being built on the street.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
What makes this house so special is the indoor outdoor living. Open all the french doors and enjoy the cool breezes and spectacular sunset views. The location is very private, with the main canal in back, a tropically landscaped lot to the South, and beautiful shallow water bay to the west. You will feel like you are in a secluded tropical sanctuary.
