  This is a very special rental hosted by two very special people. Rather than staying in an overpriced hotel, the Love Shack offers all the peace and quiet one could want in a perfectly clean, comfortable, little hideaway. The location was perfect for traveling in any direction, even when we needed to drive north, south, east, and west while visiting Santa Cruz. The redwoods are stunning and provide a wonderful backdrop to a wonderful spot for any couple. Would recommend in a minute, and hope to return to the Love Shack whenever we're back in Santa Cruz.

  This little cabin was better than the photos showed. If you are coming from SFO/SJC take the back road and you will find a path into the most gorgeous redwoods! I felt a little like I was on Endor and would see the Ewok village around the corner. The house was in pristine condition, a fully equipped kitchen and a private deck. Santa Cruz is less than 10 minutes down the road, so don't stay in town, drive a few extra minutes and enjoy peace and quiet in the forest!

  I came up to spend some quality time with daughter and couldn't have found a more perfect place! Yes, I think the love shack is a great name for it but from now on I will consider this my home away from home when we come up to Santa Cruz! So close to town but feels like I am in my own redwood womderland. Even with 2 days of non stop rain, I feel like I am cozy, warm and safe in my little "tree house" and enjoying every moment spent here. Lynn and Peder have not missed an opportunity to add touches that welcome you and make you want to stay. I just extended my stay for an extra night and maybe I will just live here! Thank you for creating this place and sharing it with all of us....and can't wait to plan my next visit and introduce my husband to the love shack!

  We have stayed in the downstairs 1 bedroom unit and we absolutely loved it. The love shack, as Peder and Lynn lovingly refer to it was available for our anniversary weekend. I would have preferred the downstairs unit mostly because of the full kitchen with gas stove; what can I say, I like to cook while on vacation. Both units are meticulously kept, the sofas are very comfortable and both properties are exactly as described. One added benefit that is not mentioned? The host and hostess are friendly, kind, generous and it's almost as if we'd come to visit old friends. In fact, since it was our anniversary weekend, Lynn surprised us with a tray of fresh fruit, homemade blueberry muffins on a decorative with a doily atop and the words penned, "Happy Anniversary Maureen & Bob" from Lynn & Peder. I felt as if we were in a B & B, accept for the fact that we weren't in someone else's home but our own little abode. Bob and I highly recommend the "quiet Cottage in the Redwoods". By the way, it's only 10 minutes to the nearest downtown Starbucks location and 15 minutes at most to the wharf, pier, and boardwalk.

• The perfect getaway!

  After spending a day at the beach and seeing the sites in Santa Cruz, we really loved being able to drive less than 10 minutes into the quiet, beautiful redwoods and stay at The Love Shack. Everything about it exceeded our expectations and we will definitely come back again!

  This is such a cool place! We stayed for 3 nights for a birthday getaway. It is in the redwoods, but just a few minutes scenic drive to Hwy 1. Quiet and peaceful at night...great bed. We slept wonderfully. Lots of nice touches - WiFi, fresh ground coffee, a welcome bottle of wine, and a BBQ on the deck (we cooked a steak). Owners are friendly and helpful. We think about the cottage often and can't wait to go back.

  My daughter and I enjoyed our stay in this woodsy cottage. Far enough away from the city but close enough to drive into town on a whim. I saw the potential of this cottage as a true "love shack". A great lovers romantic get away. Staying this deep in a California redwood forest is a rare treat not to be missed. Peace and tranquility within convenient distance to the beach. Peder was the perfect attentive host. I highly recommend this experience.

  My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Love Shack last spring. It was a delightful experience.It was like sleeping in a tree house. The hosts were lovely folks. We highly recomend this property. I look forward to my visit in Sept.

  I stayed at this cottage in the redwoods. It is so peaceful and beautiful. You feel like your at a special retreat. The deck is so nice for your morning coffee or your glass of wine at night. It is clean and cozy. The location is perfect you can go to the beach and visit downtown but come back and feel a million miles away. I recommend this place for a quite get away.
