The flat is very well equipped and in a great location. It was perfect for three couples as each couple had their own modern bathroom. We loved having drinks in the garden and also in the garden room when it got chilly. The fireplace was great on cooler evenings. We walked to shops, attractions and golf. Drew and Susan are excellent hosts with attention to every detail. They were quick to answer any questions. We loved the fresh flowers and wine too. An excellent vacation rental. We would love to go back.

We stayed here for 5 days in March for a family birthday celebration. On arrival we were met by the housekeeper who showed us around and explained what we needed to know. The house was absolutely fabulous with lots of character and its location, overlooking St.Andrews Castle, just added to its charm. The bedrooms are large and the beds comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean and the house was well stocked with everything you could need in the way of dishes, glasses, plates, pots etc. We were lucky that the weather was nice enough to use the garden on the day of our family party. Its very sheltered and west facing so its perfect as a sun trap. You could even see the Cathedral from the back of the house so the location was amazing. Its a short walk into town through quiet cobbled streets and there are plenty of places to eat and drink within 10 minutes walk so you are spoiled for choice. This is an excellent family holiday home which we were sad to leave behind but we would be very happy to return on another occasion as we enjoyed our stay so much. The only fly in the ointment was the tiny fridge which was completely inadequate considering how many people the house sleeps - the freezer was small too so not much use, even for storing ice cubes in any quantity! I did report this minor problem to the owner when we left and given the size of the kitchen it would easily house a large fridge freezer so hopefully it will be rectified soon - hopefully for our next visit!

We spent a wonderful week in the Garden Flat, celebrating our daughter's graduation from the University. I've had an opportunity to visit St. Andrews no less than a dozen times in the past 5 years, and can say with confidence that this is the best place to stay in town. Million dollar view, across from the Castle, looking out at the North sea. The garden is expansive and gorgeous and was the ideal spot to host a graduation party, The interior is charming, comfortable and spotless, with large rooms and baths, and a well stocked kitchen. Drew could not have been more hospitable, making us feel truly at home. A private car park was a very nice benefit as parking was scarce graduation week - the location is within walking distance to everything in town.

A Group of 8 stayed at this residence for 7 days between September 22 - 29th, 2012 and were extremely impressed with the property. We would not hesitate for a moment to rent this home in the future. The Owner was caring and responsive and we only have great things to say!!! I highly recommend staying here.

I think my husband could not be more pleased about the location of Drew's home and how truly inviting it was to stay here. Of all the places we stayed in Scotland, by far this was my favorite. We were within walking distance to most of our favorite places to eat, have a Starbucks coffee, and fantastic walking along the beach and trails. And all just across the street from the castle ruins and down the street from the cathedral. Of course, golfing at St. Andrews was my husband's dream come true...which was just a quick walk down the street. I could have stayed another week and been satisfied for my whole trip. The accommodations were very nice and comfortable for 5 adults...with all appliances updated and comfy beds. It was also very clean...I can't wait to come back.

Not a single negative thing to say about the house - not one! (Some of the taxi drivers are a little confused about the address, so make sure to tell them to take a right at the end of North Castle Street; they tend to naturally take a left. The taxi drivers are punctual and friendly!) We were met at the door by Drew, which I will admit was a first in my VRBO experiences; the keys are usually left with a doorman or in a lockbox. Receiving such a personal touch from the very beginning set the tone for the rest of our stay. Drew showed us around the house, where specific items were located, how to set the temperature, and talked with us about places to go. Plenty of local "what to do" brochures are on the entry table for guests. And fresh cut roses in the kitchen! Such a simple gesture, yet one that said a huge "Welcome". Old Admiralty House is warm and inviting, with plenty of room for everyone. Truly, it was a home away from home for us. This ground floor flat has one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen. It was nice to sit in the sunroom in the mornings with a cup of coffee and just look at all the colours, after a restful night's sleep on the most comfortable beds. The sunrises / sunsets looking out from the kitchen window were simply serene. If it is a rainy day, and you want to curl up with a good book, there are plenty of selections at your fingertips. The location is perfect!! You truly do not need to rent a car, unless you are embarking on a lot of day trips. A 10 minute stroll to the end of The Scores will put you at the heart of Golf Mecca - The Old Course. On your way, you will pass the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral and St. Andrews College. Nobody is in a hurry and everyone you pass says good morning or hello. Two blocks up from the house is Market Street, where you will find pubs, restaurants, Starbucks, Costa, Tesco...everything you could possibly need to set up your pantry/refrigerator. While we did not need to contact Drew about anything during our one week stay, I certainly felt that, should the need arise, everything would be handled promptly and completely. Corresponding with Drew between making the deposit and the actual arrival date was quick, easy, and questions always answered fully. By far, one of the most positive VRBO experiences we've ever had. I would highly recommend, without hesitation, Old Admiralty House to anyone planning on visiting St. Andrews!!

Owner response: From the word go I have always tried to meet all our guests when they arrive. Apart from anything else its nice to put a face to an e-mail address!! We love our property in St Andrews and want our guests to feel at home from the moment they arrive. A big thanks to Elizabeth and Tommy for being wonderful guests for the week.

We stayed in the Old Admiralty - Garden Flat - during the week our son graduated from St. Andrews. Drew met us when we arrived and made sure all was well. The garden is beautiful and the view of the sea and the castle is awesome. You are convenient to all shops and the University. Graduation was just around the corner at Younger Hall. The kitchen is very large and well equiped. We were able to entertain our son's friends and their parents just like we were at home. The sun porch off of the back bedroom is warm and inviting. It was very popular with everyone. We loved every minute we were in St. Andrews and definitely plan to come back.

Owner response: The great thing about St Andrews is that apart from being a Mecca for the game of Golf it also has a great University with about 9000 students and is a holiday destination in its own right. This combination makes for a vibrant and cosmipolitan atmosphere for visitors and residents alike. We are always very happy to meet and accommodate people from around the world who have children studying here. We look forward to seeing you again Katherine!

This has got to be the absolutely best rental in St. Andrews. It's spacious, incredibly well appointed, the views are unbelievable. Kitchen has everything you need. The garden is delightful (only available with the lower flat). Walking distance to everywhere. Across the street are the ruins of the castle and less than a minutes' walk from the old cathedral. Views of the ocean are breath taking. St. Andrews University main campus is just a few minutes away as is shopping, grocery stores, pubs and the entrance to the Old Course. The shoppers can take the car and the golfers can easily walk to the courses. Drew is the perfect host. All e-mails are answered promptly, PayPal transactions smooth as silk. You need not look further.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2010

About the owner: My father was the Caterpiller Dealer in Calcutta India and so I was born in that far off country. The bulk of my career has been as a Dealer Principal within the Motor Trade in Scotland from which I retired in 2010. We purchased the Upper flat in 2007 and the Garden flat in 2010 which gave us the whole of the property. With my background in customer service we try hard to satisfy the requirements of our guests and pay particular attention to the detail that will make their stay something special to remember.

Why the Owner Chose St. Andrews:
My home town was Dundee and with an Aunt who lived in St Andrews I was introduced to the game of golf at an early age. I used to come over the water on a regular basis to play the great Links and have always regarded it as a unique venue with its own special character. When the opportunity arose then what better place to acquire a piece of history in this very historic town?!

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Old Admiralty House is one of the relatively few privately owned properties that has uninterupted views of the sea. It is a short walk to both the golf courses and the centre of the town. However although close to the bustling centre with all the pubs, shops and restaurants it is a quiet haven being situated at the end of a cull-de-sac with no through traffic. You wake up to the sound of the sea and the call of the seabirds and couldn't be furthar away from all the pressure of modern life. It truly is a place you can recharge the batteries!
