Rural Kansas. Drink Coffee, Watch the Sun Rise...You Are Home!

Year Purchased: 1978

Why the Owner Chose Colby

We want to share the beauty with others while still maintaining ownership for our own use. Larry and Irene bought the land in the 1970's and once they saw the spot decided to build the rustic log cabin. Irene designed the home.

The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse

Quiet, scenic relaxation. A person can sit on the porch all day and not see another person. You will see many different types of animals that live on and around the property. You will not hear the traffic, barking dogs, neighbors, or sirens. If you want seclusion and a get away, this is the place. If you want to hunt trophy bucks, pheasants, and turkey, this is also the place.

Owner's Map of Colby

Larry and Irene Cressler built this log cabin in 1978 as their dream home. They spent 30 years living there and raising their family. Once they moved to town to retire, the decision was made to have this be a hunting lodge and retreat so our family could still use it for our special occasions. Larry and Irene come out to the house often to check the cats, birds, and to just enjoy the scenery.

The best place I have stayed.

Guest: N/A (Eastern KS)
Date of Stay: 12/21/10 Review Submitted: 12/16/11

I have stayed in several lodges over the years but none as well keep and nice as Cresslers, The owner is a great person and as easy to work with as they come. You can either bring all your food stuff with you and cook on property or travel into town for dinner; I brought my own. The cabin is super clean, great beds, and an upstairs pool table area. There is a great view of the area and all of this is very close to some excellent hunting. The cabin is easy to get to from either CO., NE., or eastern KS..

Family Get Together

Guest: Tammy (Hoxie, Ks.)
Date of Stay: 04/02/11 Review Submitted: 04/04/11

We had a family get together and it was very relaxing and peaceful, felt like we were in our own little world. Just listening to all of the different birds and seeing the wildlife is enjoyable itself. But the spacious room to walk and play outside was great. Inside was cozy with alot of room for a large crowd to enjoy everyone and have a great time. Getting to the cabin is so easy, you do have to drive through a lot of hills or winding roads to find the place. It was a great time, I 'm sure we will do it again.

sibling weekend. Sept 3-5 2010

Guest: Gwen (Healy, Ks)
Date of Stay: 09/03/10 Review Submitted: 09/28/10

We did a sibling and spouse weekend along with our parents. We were a party of 14 and had more then plenty of room for all of us. The pictures of the cabin do not do it any justice. It is a beautiful place. We enjoyed playing cards and playing pool. The kitchen is equipped with all food prep necessities. We spent alot of time outdoors as well, we pitched a lot of horse-shoe. Did a lot of visiting, bird watching, star gazing, walking, riding 4 wheelers. The cabin was well kept and clean. I would and have recommened the cabin to friends. I am looking forward to another stay at the lodge. Thank you for being so accomodating. Gwen & Moe

Over Labor Day, we had a "family weekend" with 14 of us utilizing the cabin and never felt the least bit crowded. It was clean and inviting, and out of the way enough that there were no intrusions from other people. We live nearby, but some of my family members were from Colorado and from eastern Kansas. From the comments that they've posted on Facebook, I can attest that they really enjoyed the log cabin. We did set up a card table in the dining room area; we could have used the table upstairs, but wanted to all eat in the same area. The kitchen is awesomely stocked with pots, pans and your essential seasonings, etc. We cooked a total of 7 meals, and were glad for the grill. We did LOTS of horseshoe pitching! The pool table was fun also. After dark, we sat out in lawn chairs stargazing and reminiscing. You could hear coyotes, owls, raccoons. Saw lots of turkeys in the mornings. Went fishing one morning; the property is just a few miles from Sheridan Lake. Pretty relaxing. Can't say that we needed the television, but it's nice that it's there. Would definitely recommend this property. We didn't have any children there, but I know that children would love it too. I'm hoping we get to use it again sometime!

Lori, This was so nice! We feel so relaxed and rested. Our lives at this time of the season are so hectic and good rest comes in small quantities. But not this rodeo, thanks to you and your generosity. For lunch we grilled steaks and ate at our own leisure and then we all took naps! What a treat for us!! Thank you so much God Bless! PS Hope we can work out something for next year. Kim

Stayed while attending Fourth of Jully weekend familly reunion

Guest: Dody (Laredo, TX)
Date of Stay: 07/02/10 Review Submitted: 07/12/10

Our group of 8 stayed in the cabin while we attended a family reunion over the 4th of July weekend. There were beds for everyone. The kitchen is well stocked, with things I would never expect to be provided. We cooked breakfasts and one dinner during our stay and we found everything we needed. There were plenty of good quality towels for our use. We used the laundry to wash some of our items before continuing our journey home. The location was beautiful and very private. The kids loved staying in the loft. We would recommend this location and hope to stay there again when our family reunion is held in 2013. (Put us down, Lori, we are planning to return!)

Owner response:Linda, Are you needing to stay at the cabin the weekend before Christmas? Dave and Jill said you may be wanting to so a christmas visit before the holiday. Please let me know. As of right now no one has asked for that weekend, but our family is there Christmas weekend and nieces and nephews are having a new years eve party there so that weekend is also unavailable. I do plan to have an artificial tree up and some decorations inside, the outside will depend on the weather. Often Santa's reindeer are seen in the yard that time of year! Sledding is also enjoyed by the family when we get together. Lori
