We needed a home away from home to visit our daughter who is attending Colby Community College. This was perfect for just that. The setting was extremely relaxing with just enough activities to occupy our time. We enjoyed sitting around the fire place catching up, relaxing on the back porch listening to nature and watching the wildlife, played pool and horseshoes, and enjoyed a few movies we bought in the late evenings. We love history, so having the home filled with historical items was a lot of fun to inspect as well. I see a return visit in our future.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

There were 53 family members that attended the first family reunion for our family. The weather was absolutely gorgeous at 85 degrees on Saturday with a mild breeze, for Kansas!! The cabin accommodated all of us very well at meal times. There were 15 of us that slept in the cabin and there was plenty of room. We enjoyed the outdoors by playing ladder golf, horse shoes, volleyball, sitting and visiting, since it was such beautiful weather. A fantastic time was enjoyed by all! Thank you very much.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We were here for the production of the rodeo at the Sheridan County Fair. Absolutely the nicest place we've ever got to stay...EVER! Everyone from the Boss of the outfit, to the pick up men, bull fighters, timers, & flankmen were here. This is in the middle of a continuous 8 rodeo run. Came from Ulysses and on our way to Colby. Very nice respite in the middle of a long string of motel rooms. Thank you! And another thank you for the monkey bread!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our friends from Hoxie invited us out for the weekend and what a nice time we had. The cabin is beautiful. Love all the history with it. We loved having our coffee on the swing outside in the morning, taking walks, playing corn hole game (which we lost), and all the great food, except for not enough bacon (HA! HA!) we hope to be able to come back again with our family.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1978
About the owner: Larry and Irene Cressler built this log cabin in 1978 as their dream home. They spent 30 years living there and raising their family. They moved to town at retirement, and the decision was made to convert our home to a hunting lodge and retreat. Our family still use the cabin for our special occasions. Larry and Irene drive out by the property occasionally to check the bird feeder, barn cats, and to just enjoy the scenery. Larry and Irene farmed land owned by the Cressler ancestors for over 100 years. Sons Ross and Herb still farm the homesteads as part of their operation. Their daughters, LaRene and Lori manage the property for them.
Why the Owner Chose Colby:
Serene, beautiful wildlife viewing, peace and quiet. The location is convenient, yet so secluded behind mature scotch pines. Guest often make the same observation; 'how relaxing their visit was' and 'we do not want to go home'. Many guests are repeat visitors, and/or book for a family reunion!
You will get good nights sleep, breathe fresh country air, and get the opportunity to see wildlife in their natural habitat, take pictures, hike, or just sit on the porch and do absolutely nothing. Bring your basic food and beverages. Various catering options are available if requested at booking, and local restaurants list is posted.
We want to share the beauty of Cressler Creek Log Cabin with others while still maintaining ownership for our own use. Larry and Irene bought the creek land in the 1970's, and decided the live spring and meadow was the perfect place to build the rustic log cabin. Irene designed the home, which continues to serve the guests and family in comfort.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Quiet. Scenic. Relaxation. Family Friends. Memories.
A person can sit on the porch all day and not see another person. However, you are guaranteed to see deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, and many beautiful birds. Cattle and horses may amble past on their way for a drink. You will not hear the traffic, barking dogs, neighbors, or sirens. You will hear the snap of the American flag.
If you want seclusion and a get away, this is the place. If you want to hunt trophy bucks, pheasants, and turkey, this is also the place.
