My husband and I just had the most romantic, secluded, perfectly relaxing vacation while renting the Palmetto Sunrise Villa in Eleuthera for 10 days this May 2013. The location was great for visiting Governor’s Harbor, and a short 10-15 minute drive to several great places to eat (we ate out often at Tippy’s and The Beachhouse). The homeowners have been friendly and helpful in every way possible to assist with our planning of activities, from flights into the island to exploring the beaches. We were most impressed with the large notebook made for guests and used the information in it every day. The book has detailed directions for finding one’s way to the special beaches of Eleuthera (photos of landmarks along the way included), and up-to-date notes on who to talk to for scheduling tours, and recent details on local restaurants. The Palmetto Sunrise Villa is luxuriously furnished, completely well-equipped and decorated in a lovely manner with many tropical paintings and sea-motif arrangements of shells and sea fan. Everything was top notch and meticulously maintained. It is readily evident that the homeowners care deeply about keeping their villa in top condition and it is heartwarming that they are so open to sharing this beautiful island and its many special attractions with guests who are fortunate enough to choose to rent the Palmetto Sunrise for a vacation. One of our favorite activities was lying out on the chaise lounges when it got dark and gazing up into the incredibly starry night sky. We also enjoyed daily walks both on the roads and along the beaches in both directions from the house. The breeze off the Atlantic was always cool and refreshing. We walked to the nearest restaurant, at the Unique Resort and enjoyed having drinks there. They have a beautiful beach and great views from the restaurant. The best thing about Eleuthera and staying at the Palmetto Sunrise Villa was the harmony with nature, warm climate, friendly people, clear water and escape from crowded civilization to a much more leisurely pace.Owner response: Thank you so very much for your kind words and taking the time to leave us your feedback Best to you both Ken & Adele Holtermann ( owners)

Palmetto Sunrise could not have been more perfect. Each bedroom with own bathrms seperated by a spacious Living/dining/kitchen area offered complete privicy for us and daughter/son-in-law. Beautiful sunrise views from the front deck overlooking Alantic and beautiful sunset over lagoon in the back. The decorative accents are a joy and the furnishings are great and comfortable. Owners are fantastic and caretaker unbelievably helpful and accomodating. Good beach on site and great secluded beaches close by. Villa is on Atlantic side and was fairly calm when we were there. A short drive to secluded very calm Caribbean. They have some of the best beach chairs I have ever sat in! A perfect balance of being away from it all yet close to everything. Islanders very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Amazing beach-front home. Well-appointed and comfortable with a definite 'homey' feel. The owners are quick to respond to questions and willing to offer suggestions. The local caretaker is very responsive and helpful. Overall a great, laid back location.Owner response: We thank you very much for taking the time to leave feedback about our home Georgia. Very pleased you found all that you wanted in a beach front home as we take allot of time and pride to offer a home away from home. Palmetto Sunrise is our winter home for 5 months and we try very hard to keep the 6 year old home in good condition with Adele on the inside and Ken on the outside doing needed things ! Hope to see you come back to Eleuthera in the future.. Kind regards, Ken & Adele

We just spent a wonderful 8 days in Eleuthera at the Palmetto Sunrise Villa. The Villa is gorgeous and exactly as pictured. It was spotlessly clean on arrival. Views from the property are exquisite; the kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances and the internet service (HughesNet) was rock solid for our entire stay. The central location is convenient to several terrific beaches (Club Med/French Leave; Ten Bay; Airport Beach; Savannah Sound; Alabaster Bay) and restaurants (Tippy's, Cocodimama, the Beach House and the incomparable Governor's Harbour Bakery). The owners, Ken and Adele, were responsive and extremely helpful in answering questions about the island and offering tips. Very highly recommended!Did you find this review helpful? We just had the pleasure of staying at Palmetto Sunrise for 2 weeks. The home is spotless and pristine, we had everything we could possibly want from the kitchen, to the beach chairs and beach towels and coming home to super comfy beds each night. We had a great time on Eleuthera, the people are super nice. We rented a car from Naaman Rolle, who couldn't be nicer. We had dinners at Tippy's, our favorite restaurant and hung out at Sky Beach Club and Cococdimama's. Both great restaurants and incredible beaches. We went scuba diving with al at Ocean Fox, based in Cotton Bay and he was great. Finally, fishing with Tweedie Sands out of Spanish Wells could not have been better, epic fishing. Caught yellow and black fin tuna, mahi mahi, barracuda, needlefish, grouper and snapper, unbelievable. Spent a couple of days on Harbor Island. Could not have been a better vacation. Thanks to Ken and adele for kicking it off in their great home!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just came back from a lovely 2 week vacation. Palmetto Sunrise is a beautiful home in pristine condition. It certainly does not feel like a rental vacation home, just like you coming to back to a well kept, comfy home each evening. We loved Eleuthera, nicest people on the planet! We fished with Tweedie Sands out of Spanish Wells, epic fishing, scuba dived with Al at Ocean Fox based in Cotton Bay, went to Harbor Island for a couple of days, gorgeous. Ate 3 times at Tippy's, our favorite, also Cocodimama, which was yummy and hung out at their amazing beach. Also, loved going to lunch at Sky Beach Club and hung out at the pool and they also have an amazing beaches. Palmetto Sunrise is on a very long beach that I walked ever morning, just perfection!!Owner response: Thank you Holly & Parrish & family for your nice comments. Hope to see you return to the island again soon. Ken & Adele

The listing and the pictures were exactly as presented above but I must add it is impossible to capture the true beauty of Eleuthera in photos. The Villa was very clean and well maintained which made us feel like we were in our own home and not in some small hotel room. I cannot say enough good things about the owners and sometimes residents of the Villa, Ken and Adele. They answered all of my questions and even assisted in my flight reservations! They were timely and professional in every way and I dont think there in anything they could have done quicker or better. I am hesitant to say I would recomment this place to a relative because it is so wonderful I want to keep it a secret for my family! If you are longing for time away from the crowds and the noise of city life, this is your place! The beaches are amazing and quiet and pretty undeveloped as far as hundreds of large homes on the beach front. We loved Eleuthera, the peopke and we will return again next year!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so very much Amanda and your family for the kind words about our home and the island of Eleuthera. We certainly hope you will be returning as stated soon. It was a pleasure to have had you stay at our home. Ken & Adele

My husband and I enjoyed eight glorious nights on calm, seductively beautiful Eleuthera. We stayed at Palmetto Sunrise in the centrally-located Palmetto Point area, and are so glad we did. Firstly, Ken and Adele are excellent communicators when you are booking their home via email and phone. Easy going, professional and lovely people. The home is perfectly represented on this and their personal Web site. The home is ideally situated on the Atlantic side of the island (great breeze; never too windy), and within a 15 minute drive to Governor's Harbour. I spent a lot of time at the lovely old Haynes Library when not lazing on the beach platform built specifically for Palmetto Sunrise. The home will happily accommodate four people, and though we were two we felt very comfortable. Husband took over one bathroom, and I had the other. The master bed was absolute heaven to sleep on. Plenty of drawer and closet space. The water pressure was excellent and the drinking water is provided. As you see in the photos of the home, there are ceiling fans in every room. We had them on during the day when in the house, with the windows open (screens closed) for a good cross-breeze and used the A/C in the bedroom at night. Fantastic A/C. The photos are very representative of the home. The kitchen has everything you could want - all silver, dishes, blender, cookware, etc. Satellite TV came in very handy during the royal wedding. Otherwise, we never turned it on. The inside of the home is gorgeous; nicely laid-out and exceptionally clean. We had every home amenity we could have needed or wanted (flashlights for night walking, laundry, etc.). Inside the home is a book of recommendations for beaches, restaurants, etc. with photos that the owners have taken themselves. An amazingly luxurious beach is right there in front of the home, across a footpath, about 40-50 yards or so to the Palmetto Sunrise beach platform - with two loungers and a table - right at the beach. Otherwise, exceptionally easy drives to a variety of glorious beaches on either the Atlantic or Caribbean sides. It was very easy access to the Queen's Highway to head north or south and the various restaurants. In short, the owners are extremely kind with excellent taste (lovely interior design - no wacky Bahamas kitsch), and are true hosts. It was an absolute dream of a vacation at Palmetto Sunrise and we will stay again. We would absolutely recommend this lovely home on Eleuthera.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you mary for the nice comments, Hope to see you return to the island soon Ken & Adele

We arrived in Eleuthera on the 15th December via Southern Air to Governor's Harbour. The aircraft was delayed so by the time we had bought some groceries - it was getting dark. I had all my intsructions - and since there were no street lights - we were a little confused. A friendly local went out of his way to point us in the right direction, and so the adventure began. We were very excited about our holiday, and we arrived finally!. We were welcomed with a nice bottle of wine, also - there was milk, eggs, bread, water, butter, and all sorts of goodies in the fridge - how refreshing to arrive and have all these surprises. It was also a treat to find a Christmas tree there to plug in all ready. to go! Everything was lovely - after walking through the villa and looking at the lovely decks - we opened a bottle of wine, and my husband claimed his reading spot by the window with great pleasure. We lit some candles and settled in. The next morning we awoke to a gorgeous view of the ocean - and after breakfast we walked the local beach for over an hour. We found another beach called Double Bay Beach - we drove to it, and we made it our daily walk for one and a half hours every morning. We rented a car from Naaman and we went to different restaurants each day. Tippy's, Beach House, Sunset Restaurant and Cocodi mammas (our favourite). We drove to the Glass bridge, and we made a trip to Spanish Wells another - that was rather cute because we rented a golf cart to get around which was really fun! We barbequed a few times on the lovely Barbeque on the back deck. The view from the back deck was also lovely as there is a lake at the rear of the property. The villa was extremely well equipped - there were beach coolers and deck chairs and all sorts of items that were very useful for a picnic - there was even bug spray and suntan lotion in the cupboard! Also lots of flash lights which are essential. The garden was so lovely - I walked around and looked at the different species of plants - I especially liked the stepping stones which were kind of magical and the wondrous palm tree that was gracefully growing up through the side deck - someone had carefully carved the deck - so it could grow! The garden was the nicest one we had seen in Eleuthera - great work - it blended beautifully with the architecture of the villa - and I am sure it will be more beautiful in the years to come. We highly recommend this villa - thank you for your great welcome.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We vacation on beaches around the world, most often in rentals like this one vs. hotels. We can't say enough good things about Palmetto Sunrise. This was one of the most delightful trips out of many that we've had. The Holtermann's provided us with so much information and tips before we even got to Eleuthera. The house was immaculate, with a fully equipped kitchen, tons of linens and towels, great internet access and all of the other amenities needed. There is also a great grill and decks with nice patio furniture surrounding three sides of the house so you can relax up on the decks or on the beach. The house is up from the ocean. You cross a little sand road (never saw a vehicle on it except ours) and go past their other property and down some steps to get to the gorgeous pink sand beach. In June at least, the tides recede during the peak time of the day to create this marvelous tide pool just a few yards down the beach east from Palmetto Sunrise. The rocks in the ocean create this natural pool that goes from about 4 inches deep gradually to about 4 feet deep. It would be perfect for children to paddle around in, and you can snorkel and play there and even catch some fish that swim in. We stayed for a week and 5 out of those days we never saw another person as far as our eye could see east or west on the beach, even as far as we walked! The only footprints in the sand were ours as we walked up and down fishing, beach combing and swimming. It truly felt like we owned our own private island when we were on the beach. Behind the house is a marshy pond with frogs that make the most wonderful sounds at night. Not annoying at all - really fun, and regardless, you only hear them outside if you sleep with the AC on. The AC works great by the way. The people in Eleuthera are extremely friendly, very very nice and easy going. There are fabulous restaurants all over the island, and thanks the the Holtermann's, there is a ton of information in the house about where to go, what to do, eat, etc. Also, Sue, their property manager, is one of the nicest people on the planet! I left some shorts at the house and Sue went out of her way to get them and mail them to me before she had even received my check for the postage! Talk about service! To sum it all up, you will absolutely love staying here and you will fall in love with Eleuthera as well. We highly recommend Palmetto SunriseRecommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Vince & Shannon Thank You very much for taking the time to leave such wonderful comments about our home and our loved island of Eleuthera and our maid Sue Knowles. We hope you will be coming back soon. It's been a pleasure to have had you stay at Palmetto Sunrise. All the best to you both...... Ken & Adele Holtermann

Great vacation at this wonderful home. Tastefully decorated and house certainly shows owners "special touch". Wonderful Ocean views with breathtaking sunrises. Beach offers the best snorkeling we have had on our many trips to Eleuthera. Sue the maid offered friendly service and was a big help with directions and tips. We certainly will be back as we booked for next year already. You will not be disappointed with a stay at this Villa for sure. Thanks Ken and Adele for letting us share you home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had the best two week vacation of our lives at palmetto Sunrise. The house has everything you could ask for as the owenrs have gone the extar mile to furnish this house with nothing but the best. Woderful views from the front Deck overlooking the Ocean. There is alsoa rear deck that overlooks the lake that makes for the prefect setting for morning coffee. We were also very happy to have internet at this home as we were able to stay in touch with home. We highly recomend this home for a great stay. I did not mention the beach and snorkeling but the snorkeling had to be the best we have ever experienced as the off shore reef is very close to the beach and the sea life was all around us from the moment we started our swim.. There is a nice swimming cove a short walk up the beach that is very private also. We saw only one other couple on the beach our entire stay. Palmetto Sunrise is also clsoe to the restraunats and shops but still remote and private on the beach road away from townDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/7

We stayed at this beautiful guest home the first week in August 2006. The home and surroundings far exceeded our expectations. It is beautifully furnished with views to die for and on a very private road giving you the feeling you have the whole island to yourself. I couldn't recommend it more highly.
