In an effort to get on the water opening day weekend, I ran across this rare find quite by accident. Castle Creek is an exceptional fishery and this property is an equally refined base camp for some of the finest spring creek flyfishing anywhere. Warm and inviting, this home-away-from-home is well appointed and perfect for up to four non related adults or families of six. Nestled in the woods overlooking the valley and stream below with a great view of the Castle Rock formation out of the kitchen windows, the floor plan is efficient with lots of light and plenty of exterior decking to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Although we were there primarily to fish and relax with friends, it was clear that this is much more than a fishing destination with hiking, biking, and just getting away from it all as some of the many reasons to visit. I highly recommend this property and expect that our group's experience will result in a few more visits over the coming months, so you may want to book this gem quickly before it's too late!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We had a lovely and relaxing time at this beautiful spot in southwestern Wisconsin. The cabin was modern, clean and the beds were very comfortable. Great kitchen, lots of windows, nice large deck with awesome views at bird height. Lots of fun small towns to explore and hiking trails. Owners very pleasant and in quick communication. We rent a lot of homes when we travel and by any standards this was one of the best! The location is close to best towns in Western Wisconsin, yet still secluded. The descriptions are very accurate and we found the place to be very clean. All communications with the owners were clear and helpful. The one thing that is different, as others have said, is that the family room and master bath are on the second floor in the lofted space. This wasn't a problem in any way, it's just something you should be aware of if stairs are an issue. There is also a stone patch with some steps to get from the parking area into the house. Again, not an issue for us, but something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues. The open, modern kitchen is a huge plus - thanks for having excellent knives and a steel - you seldom see this in rental places! We loved the wrap around deck, the video library, the stars and the sounds of coyotes at night. This would be a great place for two couples to share or a fun place if you have kids.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

What a great property! After reviewing over 50 vacation properties in Wisconsin for our vacation on VRBO we decided on Fennimore due to the location, countryside and the opportunity to fish on the blue ribbon trout streams. The vacation property was exactly as described. The owners Jamie and Kristin were very timely in answering our questions in all aspects of our vacation to include area shopping, fishing spots, even what fishing tackle to use. The cabin met all of our needs of a family of 4 from sleeping arrangements to cooking our meals. The owners even provided detailed road maps of the surrounding area which are especially handy when looking for the designated fishing spots. Fishing was a challenge due to the historic low water levels but walking and driving the countryside with my son was well worth the time and the adventure. Don't forget to visit the surrounding towns for some of the favorite local shops and restaurants. If possible visit the Amish farmers market for a unique experience. Galena, Illinois is a nice drive and plenty of shopping. Take the chance to read everyones comments written in the cabins diary. It seems like everyone has had a great time. This vacation property has turned into our favorite so much so we are revisiting it again this October. Thank you Jamie and Kristin for offering a place to get away from the stress of life!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Beautiful house in a beautiful, quiet place. Owners are very accessible, friendly and well-organized. Listing describes the place very well. Even if you don't trout fish, the area is very scenic and interesting. Place was clean and well-organized. Hide-a-bed couch is a little small for 2 people unless a couple or 2 kids, but other than that definitely sleeps 7 people comfortably. Cabin wi-fi worked well. Kitchen very well appointed. And the fishing is awesome. Be sure to check the Wis. DNR regulations (booklet available with license or online) to be sure, as different parts of different streams have different rules (size, bag limit, etc.) By far my favorite place I have ever stayed on a fishing trip!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Just returned from a very nice stay at the Scenic Cabin. Beautiful Scenic drive with lots of hills, valleys, farms, etc,on the way to the cabin but was a bit surprised to have not one but 2 roads within ear shot. There was more road noise than we would have preferred. Spent as much time as we could on the deck, nice view of the farm below, etc. The cabin itself was not set up particularly great for a group of 6. We would have preferred the living area to be on the main level next to the kitchen and a full bath next to the 2 bedrooms instead of only the one on the upper level off the living room . Made it difficult to sit, relax, and visit while others were preparing meals etc. Home was very, very clean and very well equipped. No worries there. We would recommend visitors to bring their own water to drink. Plenty of games, videos, books, etc to pass the time if necessary and it was nice to have a dishwasher. Loved the opportunity to sit on the deck early in the am and listen to the birds, and drink my coffee. Truly a beautiful setting. Perfect for a couples weekend.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for staying with us and for posting your thoughtful review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you visit again. We do wish, however, to address a couple of your concerns for the benefit of prospective guests...We have tried to make it very clear from both the description of our cabin and the pictures we have posted online that the living area is lofted upstairs and the 2 bedrooms are located on the first level. While a bit unique, this arrangement was necessary due to remodeling requirements and many of our past guests have expressed their appreciation of that arrangement as it provides for enhanced views and a separation of noise for those with earlier bedtimes. Regarding road noise, we have found that until the trees leaf out there is some noise that can be heard at times but usually it is quite minimal and unobtrusive. Finally for those unaccustomed to well water from a natural spring your suggestion of bottled water is appreciated as a taste preference to water high in healthy mineral content.

Our family of 6 (all adult ages) had a lovely stay at this distinctive cabin. From our first email, the owners were informative, warm, helpful and welcoming. They provided excellent detailed information about the cabin and great recommendations on interesting things to see and do in the area. The cabin itself was exactly as pictured - everything was beautifully designed and decorated and all the functional elements of the cabin were in perfect working order. Wi-fi was a welcome feature. We can confirm that the sofa bed is easily as comfortable as a conventional bed -maybe even better! Beautiful setting, wonderful hosts - we hope we'll have the opportunity to stay again. Thanks so much from our entire family!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed a week's stay here. The accommodations are wonderful -- new, clean, and well-kept all around. The kitchen had everything we needed, mattresses were comfy, and the internet service worked well. This is a great place for quiet R&R with nothing in close proximity except farms and trout streams. The views are wonderful to Castle Rock and from a lookout point just up the road out over the valley. We availed ourselves of some fly fishing from a nearby meadow just a short walk away. Would highly recommend for a quiet vacation or get away.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Castle Rock Creek cabin is just beautiful, everything about this cabin is first class. Our group consisted of four gentlemen searching for trout in the famed driftless area of Southwest Wisconsin. The sleeping accommodations worked out great and the cabin served as a wonderful base camp for our adventures. There are many - many special touches that make this cabin so special and it’s location is central to several of the finest trout stream in SW Wisconsin. We hope to return to Castle Rock Creek cabin again in the very near future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: We are Illinois farmers and have 3 young children who love adventure. In our spare time we love to hike, fish, read, play games and relax as a family!
Why the Owner Chose Fennimore:
The Driftless Area (an unglaciated corner of Southwest WI reminiscent of Upstate New York) is known for its scenic, wooded valleys, spring fed streams and rocky hilltops. It is a unique part of the country -- very different than much of the midwest -- and for those in the know, a special place to get away without having to go too far.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our cabin was purchased unfinished and in some disrepair in 2009. Thanks to my architect wife's keen eye, some elbow grease and a desire to create something special we remodeled our cabin into the luxurious hideaway we have today. We enjoy sharing our little slice of heaven with others who appreciate the opportunity to slow down and enjoy the finer things in life. This is not a rustic cabin. While it is certainly off the beaten path, it is also modern, well-kept and luxuriously appointed. We appreciate guests who treat our cabin as their own home and have been very pleased to find that nearly all of our guests do so.
