This 1800 Sq. foot home is located in the historic mill town of Fries, VA. The beautiful New River flows by our small village on it's way up north. 'The New River Trail' follows the river from Fries to Pulaski for over fifty miles. It is a 'Rails to Trails' project for bikers, hikers and horses. There is very little incline or decent and you will find trestles, a tunnel, beautiful wild flowers, shoals and lots of cool shade in mostly secluded deep woodlands. The fishing is great along with canoeing, tubing and kayaking.
Blue Grass Music is plentiful with The Galax Fiddlers Convention and Fries Fiddlers Convention the second and third weeks in August.
The house is only 14 miles from the most visited National Park, 'The Blue Ridge Parkway' and the Blue Ridge Music Center.
For those of you with wonderlust there are lots of narrow dirt and paved roads with pastures, mountains, creeks and valleys to explore.

My sister and our daughters and I took a trip to Fries, VA to do some family genealogy. We rented Nana's Place for a week and were very comfortable. The accommodations were great and the owners were not intrusive but checked often to see if we needed anything. I would highly recommend Nana's Place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much for your great recommendation and for taking great care of our home!!

We had a wonderful time staying at the house. Our main focus was riding on the New River Trail, but it was nice to come back after a long ride to have a comfortable place to stay. The house was roomy and beds were nice. What more could you ask for? Ther owners were very nice and thoughtful. They called on first night to check if we needed anything. We would stay there there again and again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Superb accommodations. Could not expect more than pure excellence. Everything provided. Reluctant to be more descriptive because it might become so popular that we couldn't get a time to return............................ which we certainly expect to -- as soon as posible. Great neighborhood.....great, friendly neighbors. We had a wonderful time with them driving around the mountainside being introduced to all the beautiful southwestern Virginia scenery.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for your generous review and for taking such great care of Nana's Place. May God bless you....

We loved staying here, and from the first time we opened the front door, it felt just right. The house is just as spacious and adorable as it looks in the pictures. One of our friends wanted to watch TV, and since there is a den, he was able to watch without bothering anyone else. The hosts are incredibly generous, with supplies for a traveler's every need to be found in the cupboards. The house is very clean and tidy. The cozy feeling of the bedrooms made it hard to choose which one of the three we wanted! It was quiet enough outside to open the windows at night. That was great! We thoroughly enjoyed hanging out on the front porch and back deck. The large size of the house is a tremendous asset to guests. For example, there is a room next to the back deck, so you don't have to tote your outdoor gear in and out of the rest of the house. The owner was very helpful to our friends when they needed to back their camper trailer into the back yard. I think the owners must be experienced travelers, as they know what people want and need to have a relaxing experience. The neighborhood is designed in an old fashioned way, with front porches on every house and sidewalks on both sides of the street. Everyone walking by was very friendly, and seemed welcoming to us. Occasionally a neighbor would mention that they too have tourist rental property, in case we were interested. But they might have guessed from our contented expressions that we had already found the best place! One neighbor was very interesting to talk with about the history of the town. He even brought over a large photo of the mill, and answered many of our questions about the area back in the time before tourism became (at least for now) the main industry. We want to come back to Fries again. The scenery along the New River is incredible. The trail is easy to ride, and only a couple blocks from the house. One friend attended church in Woodlawn, a small town nearby and enjoyed it a lot. Galax is fun to explore as well. We enjoyed walking around Fries in the evenings, looking at the houses and businesses, photographing the river at sunset, talking with people, and imagining what the town was like in its heyday. Thank you to our hosts for helping to make our stay so enjoyable.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

WOW!!! What a place. Great neighbors and beautiful house in a nice small town. We spent a week there in August 2010. We spent the days riding motorcycles on some the best backroads in the coutry and spent the evenings relaxing and cooling off from the long rides. The neighbors were great and very friendly. We had a great time and will recommend this rental to our friends.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so very much for your great review. We really appreciated the way you took care of the place and are looking forward to you coming back sometime.

We just returned from a two-night stay at Nana's Place, and had a wonderful time. The home is just as described in the website: very homey and comfortable. There was plenty of room for the six of us, with a den AND living room. It was immaculately clean and was supplied with everything one could imagine needing. There is quick and easy access to the New River Trail. The home is located on a quiet street with lovely, character-filled houses. Neighbors were very friendly. The owners were easily available at all times by phone for questions. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! We will definitely put Nana's Place on our list of favorites!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much for taking the time to submit such a wonderful review. You were great guests and we hope you will come back. We love to see families getting together!!

This is a charming, spacious, and well appointed house. We had a wonderful stay biking the New River Trail, relaxing on the porch, and playing croquet (set provided!) in the backyard. We really enjoyed staying at this property, it was very well maintained and spotlessly clean, with lots of lovely touches, beautiful quilts on all the beds. The front porch was a lovely spot to catch the evening sun and the back deck was perfect for breakfast in the morning. The start of The New River Trail is a short walk away from the house and is very scenic. Very friendly owners and neighbours.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much for your cherished comments..Hope you can visit again soon..
