Kick back and relax in comfort in this stylish, well-appointed cottage exposing fabulous sunsets and west-facing views of tugs and sailboats plying the waters between Salt Spring Island and Vancouver Island. Relax on the deck or take a stroll down the lane, observing the songbirds, quail, eagles and precocious deer and appreciating the many interesting arbutus, fir and Garry Oak trees.
Starlight Cottage is perfectly located within easy access to saltwater beaches and fresh water lakes and is literally steps from a huge acreage of accessible parkland featuring an extensive trail network for walking or hiking. It is about 13 minutes from the town of Ganges, the heart of Salt Spring Island, 5 minutes from the ferries to Crofton on Vancouver Island and 15 minutes from ferries to Tsawwassen, near Vancouver.
Upon entering this inviting cottage, you will be aware of the ideal light from many skylights and windows. The living/dining room area, with wool rug, has relaxed seating on the sofa [also extra sleeping space for 2] and comfy chairs. The oak wall unit holds the television, with satellite reception, DVD player and a library of books appealing to many interests, including books by local authors. The dining table for four has extra leaves for expansion as needed. Enjoy the added comfort of a fire in the enamelled woodstove on damp cooler days, or take advantage of the radiant heat floors.
The bright, fully-equipped kitchen accommodates the ‘foodie’ in the family, containing all that’s needed to prepare your meals ‘at home’, including pots, dishes, utensils, mixer, microwave, electric and French-press coffee makers, and more - plus all kitchen linens. There is also the convenience of a washer and dryer.
This self-catering B&B provides several breakfast items, including Salt Spring coffee, assorted teas, local farm fresh eggs, assorted cereals, milk, breads or muffins and fresh fruit.
The spacious bedroom at Starlight Cottage is where this rural dwelling gets its name. A large skylight over the bed showcases the celestial splendour of a myriad of stars, shooting stars and the moon on occasion, once the lights are out. The comfortable bed with Egyptian cotton linens, feather pillows [unless allergies require other] and soft blankets offers a good night’s sleep. Two dressers, a desk, rugs, a large closet for storing bags plus bookshelves, stocked with more books and board games, complete the picture of convenience and comfort. There is a sofabed in the living room for two, plus two fold-out foamies for extra sleeping for 2 more.
After a long day of hiking, shopping or exploring the island, relax in the deep bathtub, its water perfumed with the fine soaps from Salt Spring Soap Company. Thick cotton towels and extra sheets and blankets for the hideabed are piled onto the several convenient shelves in the bathroom. Starlight Cottage is wired for direct high-speed Internet connection or Wi-Fi.
This place is the perfect launch for the visitor who is drawn to culture, natural beauty, exercise, good food and friendly encounters. Undoubtedly, you will strike out to explore and partake of the many attractions on the island. We provide maps and a list of some of Salt Spring’s many interesting places. Hiking beyond our extensive back yard trail network includes Ruckle Park, Burgoyne Bay, and Mt. Maxwell. Swimming in the warm lakes or the saltwater beaches is a favourite activity. The villages, especially Ganges, team with spots of interest, including galleries, excellent restaurants, spas, shops, grocery and liquor stores, pharmacies, video stores, the Visitor Information Centre plus Art Spring - the arts centre for performing and fine arts. Further afoot, one can visit and taste the products of the wineries, the orchards, the cheese farms, organic breads from an outdoor oven and the roadside produce stands. Don’t forget the famous Saturday market and the studio tour and the many opportunities to take to the water by kayak and touring boats or to golf at one of the two courses on the island – one being organic!
