We spent our first visit ever to Hawaii on Kauai in Hale Kai. It was perfect! A lovely, clean, comfortable beach home…just the right size for the six of us. We couldn’t get over the fact that it sits right on the beach!! We just had to cross the quiet, dirt road and there we were! The view from the house is GORGEOUS! Our weather was fantastic for most of our week-long stay. We did have one day of rain which produced for us the neat experience of hearing the rainfall in the “jungle” behind the home, a beautiful rainbow, and a lightning show across the bay at night. Very special. We rented a paddle board in Hanalei. Our kids loved paddling that around Anini cove. A favorite was swimming with the sea turtles right here in Anini cove. We loved hearing all the birds singing as we woke up in the mornings. The wild chickens all over Kauai are hilarious! We really enjoyed the farmers market in Hanalei. We visited Tunnels Beach and Ke’e Beach. Smith’s Luau was a hit with our children. There was so much more to explore…not enough time.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

I can't say enough about this place, this was by far our most enjoyable vacation. Hale Kai is beautiful, with all the comforts of home. The location was great for our family. Our children loved waking each morning and picking fresh grapefruit for breakfast from the huge tree outside the kitchen, followed by hours on the beach in front chasing sand crabs, looking for shells, and swimming in the ocean. My wife loved being able to watch the children on the beach from the balcony as she is fair skinned and can't tolerate too much sun. The owners, Bob and his daughter Suzi, were very friendly and accommodating and clearly love what they do. The only complaint I have about our trip to Hale Kai is that it was too short. We are already planning our next trip and will definitely be staying longer. Thank you Bob and Suzi for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home. See you next year!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Hale Kai was just perfect for our vacation with our teenagers kids. The house was spotless and we really appreciate that, spacious, comfortably furnished and very well equipped, anything you would need in the kitchen is there. There is equipment for the beach that we could use, like chairs and snorkeling stuff, we really appreciate that. The Guest information book is well done and explained and gives you good info about the area. There are travel guides about the island for all tastes and needs. WE had a little problem with the shower that was fixed in a blink of a eye. The setting is perfect for a family with little kids because the beach is protected and the ocean is shallow. We loved to be away from the crowd and be able to cross the road to go beachcombing or just lay in the sun in the yard with the company of the wild chicken and new chicks. Anini beach is just 10 minutes from Hanalei, perfect for grocery needs, for restaurants, shopping, nice beach. We also went north and had some great hiking adventure! WE just loved it. It is located in a very good position on the island and whether you west or East you have plenty of different things to see and experience, like wonderful secluded beaches, sightseeing, botanical garden, horseback riding. You name it.... We loved and we will highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special place!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Located right across the dirt road that fronts the beautiful Anini Beach, this home has it all. This home is very close to the dead-end of the drive and affords the adventuous a short uphill climb on a well maintained trail to all the amenities of the Princeville Resort complex. The views above are worth the hike! It also helps with your awareness of the dangerous "cut" that sits right in front of the property. This "cut" releases all the water that is generated into the bay back out and during our stay we assisted in a rescue of a young lady who got caught in the current while snorkeling. The house itself has a simple floor plan with the living/dining/kitchen/deck all fronting the beach view. The 3 bedrooms are down the central hall and are all of nice size. The master has it's own bath & private deck but we never used it since the view is back into the mountain directly behind the house. The other two bedrooms share an oversized bath off the hall. Furnishings are simple yet comfortable and most of our time was spent out on the deck in the patio furniture. Kitchen is well apointed with everything you would need and we ate dinner most nights at the house. The grocery store is right there in Princeville so it's easy to stay in stock. My only negative criticisms which are of no fault of the owners is the patio deck faces north and does not get much if any sun thru out the day. A lot of our early morning and late afternoon times at the house were spent on this deck and the other thing that bugged us was the low hanging power lines that sat perfectly in your horizon sitting view looking out towards the ocean. All in all a great stay easy owners to deal with a great location any a comfy stay.. you won't go wrong in making this a home away from home!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

House & location are just not done justice in the photos! Sucluded, quite, beautiful in every way! House was spottless & has beautifully kept wood throughout. Watched whales for hours from the front deck. Water out front was perfect for our son to play. Our family of 4 stayed in Hale Kai in June 2011 and loved it. There was plenty of room in each bedroom. We enjoyed playing family games and relaxing in the great room. The kitchen is wonderful. Most of all, we loved being on the North Shore. Everything is so lush and beautiful. We visited 1 or 2 beaches every day and enjoyed snorkeling, especially at Tunnels Beach. We would highly recommend Hale Kai!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We are so thankful to have found this wonderful rental home at the end of a quiet road on Annini Beach. This part of Anini Beach is quiet. We often found ourselves alone on the beach. Snorkeling is excellent right in front of the house. The ocean is very calm and great for kids of all ages. When we wanted waves and surfing, we made a short drive (5-7 minutes) to Hanalei. The house was perfect. The bedrooms were large and the beds/linens were very nice. The kitchen was modern and was stocked with all the supplies necessary. One bathroom has a huge shower and a pleasure to use. There is nothing lacking. (There is even more than they claim. Wireless internet too!) The yard was very large and beautiful. We ate grapefruit and tangarines from the trees in the yard. I would highly recommend renting this home on this beach. It is perfect!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/6

We spent our 20th Anniversary on Kauai 4 years ago and we knew we definitely had to bring our kids back. They both just graduated from high school and college this May (they are 18 and 22). We stayed at Hale Kai June 14th through June 22nd. The pictures just do not do it justice. Paradise, serenity, peacefulness and complete awe were what hit our family. We had the most amazing week on Kauai. We were always anxious to get back to the house and just hang out with each other. This was our first full vacation together in over 4 years and it was money well spent. The memories are truly priceless. Our kids are already wanting to come back. The house had everything we could possibly need. I would have to say the sunsets completely took our breath away. Our daughter had never seen one quite that close with such vibrant colors. She spent hours finding the tiniest complete shells we had ever seen. This truly was the best vacation we ever had. Thank you Bob and Dotty for sharing your beautiful home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/6

Our stay at Hale Kai was spectacular. The house and beach were a perfect fit for our kids, ages 1-8. The house is well stocked with all the necessities for a family like ours. We enjoyed some time at Anini, snorkeling at He'e, Smith's luau and frequent trips to Hanelei. We'll definitely be back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

About the owner: Nakea Kauai Vacation rentals offers three properties for rent, a one bedroom ocean bluff condo at Sealodge in Princeville (Kai Nani), a three bedroom beachfront home (Hale Kai) and a one bedroom beachfront cottage (Punana Aloha). The latter two are both located at the secluded end of incredible Anini Beach. All three properties are owned and lovingly cared for by Bob Nakea and his wife, Dotty. Bob is a native Hawaiian whose family's roots on Kauai go back to the 1800's, and Dotty is a mainland transplant who has been in the islands for over 48 years. No attention to detail on the properties is overlooked, and each home is furnished with the comfort of its guests foremost in mind.
Why the Owner Chose Anini Beach:
In the North Shore's idyllic setting you can: swim, surf; sunbathe, scuba dive or snorkel, wind surf (with rental boards and lessons available at Anini Beach Park), go shore fishing, book a deep water charter; beach comb, go horseback riding at Princeville Stables, watch polo games at Anini Beach, hike the island's awesome trails, enjoy gourmet dining, work out at the Princeville Spa (featuring daily and weekly memberships giving access to the latest exercise equipment, large lap pool, Jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, and numerous aerobics, yoga, aqua -size and weight training classes), pamper yourself with a facial treatment or full body massage, whale watch, take a Na Pali Coast boat tour or a sunset sailing cruise in Hanalei Bay, book a helicopter tour of fabulous Waimea Canyon, play tennis, enjoy worldclass golfing (with discounts at Princeville's Makai and Prince courses), drive around the island and take in the sights, or just simply lie back and bask in the simple glory of being in one of earth's most naturally beautiful and peaceful places.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Hale Kai's location almost at the dead end of Anini Road, where there is only a single row of homes along the beach, means that our guests enjoy quiet and privacy not found along most of the rest of Anini. The protecting reef (one of the largest in Hawaii) assures that the waves break far out and not on the shore, and the calm shoreline and shallow waters make the area in front of the house ideal for swimming and snorkeling most of the year (except during periods of high winter surf). It is a wonderful beach for small children as it has a smooth sandy bottom (no holes to worry about!).
