We chose this property based on other renter reviews and we were not disappointed! This lovely little cottage has a cozy feel, but features a surprising amount of space for everyone to spread out and relax on their own. We visited with 3 teenage boys who each found their own favorite spot to hang out. Having two family rooms was great, since it gave us the option of being together as one group or splitting into two. The cottage has an excellent location, only a few minutes to grocery stores, restaurants, Jockey's Ridge and, of course, the beach. Having direct access to the beach was wonderful. It was easy to go back to the house to get things and we weren't stuck lugging everything with us. The house was very clean and the pictures we saw in advance are accurate to what we found when we arrived. We loved the decor, especially the lovely artwork. We found ourselves searching for similar pieces to bring home. The fully stocked kitchen made it very easy to do most of our cooking at home. In fact, we all made ourselves completely at home from the moment we arrived! This cottage will definitely be our first choice for future visits. Everything about this trip, from the reservations and communication to the arrival and setup to the cleanup and packing was easy and stress-free. I highly recommend this beautiful cottage and hope we will have the opportunity to visit again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Kathie and family, I am so glad you all enjoyed our little piece of heaven, too. We never ask our guests to review "Breakaway", but if everyone wrote such a nice glowing review as you have, I would ask. Thank you so much for taking the time and PLEASE visit again soon! Carolyn and Bob Hicks

Loved our stay at this adorable beach house this past May. We've been going to Nags Head for years and have rented many places, and this house really felt like home. The little details in the decor projected a very warm, relaxing and fun atmosphere. I could tell the owner really thought about how to make their guests' stay relaxing and comfortable. We were just a few steps away from the beach -- it was 'beach front feel' without the beach front price. There's a huge deck with a nice view of the ocean, where our family spent quite a bit of time, eating, chatting and just enjoying our week. I also loved that we were so close to a grocery store and Austin's seafood market -- it's less than a 5 minute drive. So convenient!! We are looking forward to next year, and many years to come at this fabulous beach cottage. Owner response: Thanks, Mary and Scott, please hurry back! Carolyn and Bob

Several summers ago, after struggling year after year to find just the right Nags Head beach house, we were lucky enough to find the perfect place! Those days of searching are over--we will never stay anywhere else. What we love most about the house--(and there are so many things!) is the fact that we do not have to cross any roads to get to the beach. This means the kids can come and go all day with no worries, we can leave our stuff on the beach all day and come in for lunch, a nap or whatever! My favorite part is the fact that I can slip out of bed at sunrise, grab my camera and in 30 seconds be sitting on the beach catching the most beautiful sunrises. It always seem to rise just in front of the house! Back to bed and when the family gets up--no one knows I've had my special time alone with the beach to myself at the start of the day. Another really great thing that has made our visits more fun and more peaceful is that the house has two family rooms, each with TV and sofas. The two family rooms are both comfy and so cute and the kitchen runs between them so you still feel in touch with everyone even if you don't share the same taste in TV shows. The house is so well-equipped--we never need to lug a bunch of stuff with us--they have games, bikes, beach chairs, and a really well stocked kitchen plus outdoor grill. My husband loves fishing and it's great to have a fish cleaning table on the back deck because the fishing is great there! There's a little rustic screened porch for picking crabs or my family loves to do it on the HUGE roof deck which is just a great place to hang out--you can see the ocean and there is alot of room/seating up there! The owners, Carolyn and Bob, are always so helpful when it comes to offering advice on anything. They know the outerbanks very well and are great people! Carolyn has such an eye for decorating and we can't wait to see her updates every year! Everything is close--grocery, Jockey's Ridge, outlet shopping, putt putt, great restaurants, the sound, anything yiu need at all! Even so, the house has such a private feel about it. We really love it and have been so happy since we started staying there!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Thanks, guys....we love it when our guests are are happy!
