- Just moments from Ober Gatlinburg ski area, Dollywood and Splash Country theme parks in nearby Pigeon Forge. Restaurants, dinner shows, shopping all nearby. The Aquarium in downtown Gatlinburg is wonderful!!! Roaring Forks Motor Trail is just beautiful to drive thru or for hiking. The best time to drive thru is just after it rains. Traffic Light 8 will take you right into the trail and the National Park. Mynatt Park is also at Traffic Light 8 and is the city park. This is a perfect spot for walking, a picnic, photographic moments, tennis, playground, ballpark, etc. Mynatt Park is the old Methodist church camp and has historic cabins located in the park. The village at downtown Gatlinburg is just beautiful and has unique shops and the setting is very picturesque. ...moreless

We truly enjoyed your home, it was clean, quaint, had everything you need in the kitchen and close to town. We even saw some bears on the road :) We will definitely stay again!!! My only suggestion is someone needs to blow the leaves off the driveway, it was hard to drive up with all the packed wet leaves and we had a four wheel drive truck. Thanks so much :)

A very good weekend
A very good weekend
We go to the Smokies every fall (and sometimes spring) and we always stay some place different. This property was one of the best. It was large and roomy. The Ms Pac Man game brought back memories of younger days. The driveway was very steep but we have a four wheel drive vehicle so no problem. We liked the HD TV with cable in the living room, although negotiating all the remotes was a challenge. The worst thing for us was coming during the government shutdown, so we couldn't do much hiking although we did find one trail that we could hike. I would recommend this property.

I saw black bear the first morning.
I saw black bear the first morning.
We just returned from staying at this chalet. I enjoyed coffee on the deck the first morning and saw three black bear as they came around the front of the deck and into the woods on the side near the hot tub. One little black bear scampered up the tree right in front of me and then came back down and into the woods with the other two. We did not see any more black bear until one ran across the road on our way into town one morning. The chalet was roomy, the bedrooms are good sized and we were glad to have the 2-1/2 bathrooms. There is a convenient 1/2 bath right next to the pool table loft area which was very handy. We had plenty of hot water when needed and the water pressure was great. The hot tub outside worked great but we never used the jacuzzi upstairs in the master bedroom. We did use the full-sized pacman video game a few times. Great wifi service. The washer and dryer were convenient to have but plan on doing small loads and keep an eye on the lint trap in the dryer which kept coming out while drying clothes. The kitchen had pretty much everything we needed. The ice maker worked well. There is a keurig there as well as the regular coffee pot so you might want to bring extra k-cups if you like a quick cup of coffee. We ran the dishwasher once and it worked well but needs to be connected a little better to the cabinetry since it tilts and makes you think the dishwasher is going to fall out of the cabinet as you are loading it. There are plenty of dishes, including wine glasses and corkscrew if needed. There is not really extra cabinet space for storing food so go easy on grocery shopping and think about how much time you will really be spending cooking. Realistically there is so much to do in the area, we never had much time to be at the cabin cooking meals so plan accordingly as you will probably not want to go back and forth between the chalet and town more than once a day. We did not go to the owner clubhouse pool. The view is good but the trees do hide some of it in summer. There are other homes nearby but you still feel secluded. I would recommend having your GPS on your cell phone handy for getting to/from town. We took wrong turns often. The roads and driveways are steep and there are sharp turns so not for the faint of heart. It rained the last night we were there and we had trouble getting up some roads and the driveway in our Mercury Marquis which is not 4WD. This would be our ONLY reason for not staying here again.

Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to submit a very constructive review. We truely wish we could change the driveway but although steep under most conditions most types of vehicles have no problem negotiating it. We have noticed that underpowered (4cyl compacts) loaded with luggage and passengers may not have the power to make the climb. Weather conditions are also a factor that can affect most vehicles. Thank you again for reviewing our property. P.S. will get that dishwasher secured properly, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
We had a very good time in the cozy cabin. Staying for the week with the family, including 2 boys 10 and 12 yrs, we had plenty of room to spread out and relax but also plenty of opportunity to spend time together. The few times we had questions the owners were very responsive. The view from outside is amazing and the time spent on the deck was very quiet and peaceful. The only issue that we ran into was with the steepness of the driveway for my little 4 cylinder manual drive car, but a car with more power should do better than mine.

We had a great stay at Black Bear Crossing. We spent 6 nights. Place was clean, well furnished and very comfortable. Up in the mountain away from the noise of Gatlinburg but a quick drive into town and into the park. Sat out on the deck every night and enjoyed the hot tub and night sky. We saw a bear 4 out of 6 nights. Went to the village pool and tennis courts - had a great time, staff was friendly and helpful, and area was very nice. Would highly recommend staying at this cabin. Great trip!!

Owner response: We really appreciate your comments. Glad to hear the bears have not disappointed. Thank you for submitting!
This was our first time using a cabin in the smoky mountains, vs a hotel, and we were so happy with the experience! This cabin is very clean and well kept. Everything is stocked - lots of towels, dishware, coffee maker, extra pillows, blankets, etc. We went to the grocery store to get some food to cook and had no problem making ourselves at home. The location is great - far enough away to where it's quiet and secluded, but it's only about a 10 minute drive to the entrance of the national park. The only difficulty was the driveway, but a 4-wheel drive car would be able to maneuver it with no problem. The deck is great - nice view and a clean jacuzzi to use along with a charcoal grille. The cabin is equipped with wi-fi, and the internet service is surprisingly very quick there. Overall a GREAT value! We would definitely return!

Owner response: Thank you for your kind remarks and so good to hear the positive comments. Yes, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is most suitable for getting around in the mountains and up the driveway. Most of our renters have had no problems accessing the driveway without 4WD. Everything from a Honda Civic, PT Cruiser on up. When you add snow and ice however the game changes. Ski Mountain road, the main road from Gatlinburg to Ober Gatlinburg and chalet village where the chalet is located is restricted to 4WD or Tire chains when there is ice and or snow on the road. We encourage renters to contact us if they have any doubts, misgivings regarding driveway.
Great Family Chalet
Great Family Chalet
We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at Black Bear Crossing. We have rented many properties in the past and this was one of our favorites. There was ample room for everyone. Kitchen was very nicely appointed with kitchen wares and plenty of dishes. There were also more than enough linens for everyone. Hot tub was great after hiking every day. Location to national park is superb. We arrived at trailheads within 40 minutes every day. Many trail heads are closer. Downtown Gatlinburg also easily accessible. Washer and dryer came in handy. My husband had some work to do and was able to log in to work every night to take care of things. Number of deck chairs was great and we loved the covered porch for our hiking gear. Never had to bring muddy shoes into the chalet! We highly recommend Black Bear Crossing. We did not use the communal pool, but it was nice to know it was available if we chose to use it. Loved the pool table - beat the kids every night!

Owner response: Thank you so much for the review. Whenever we stay at the chalet we try to think of items we could add or things we can do to make our guests stay more like a home away from home. Convenience to town, trail heads and attractions along with the beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings are a plus we always enjoy. If you had been able to use the Chalet Owner's Club pool I believe you would have been equally satisfied with those facilities. I hope you were able to use the guest card we provide in the chalet for discounts at local restaurants and attractions. Thank you again for your review, we hope you will come stay with us again in the future.
Everything I expected
Everything I expected
Black Bear Crossing was exactly what I was expecting. It was very comfortable for my family. The pool table was a hit with the entire family. We sat in the hot tub and watched it snow. It was very clean and neat. The view was beautiful, especially at night. We will be back very soon.

No Complaints Here!!!!
What a great chalet and great owner to work with. My questions were answered quickly. As far as the chalet it was more than expected. Very clean, well equipped and spacious. Like other people said the driveway the first time was a challenge but once I got the hang of it it was no problem at all. Very quiet and relaxing and it sits back off the road a little. Got so see a bear come up the driveway, cut through the yard right by the deck and then went behind the chalet and up into the woods. What a sight that was. Would definitely consider staying here on future visits to the Smokies. Thanks!!!!!

Our Black Bear Crossing Experience
Our Black Bear Crossing Experience
We were very pleased that the chalet looked exactly like the ad photos. It was very clean and had every-thing that we needed to make our stay comfortable. Best of all, the view was amazing! As mentioned in the other reviews that we read prior to our trip, the driveway was very steep. My husband said that it was challenging, but do-able. We have a 6 cylinder honda and plan to stay there again.

About the owner: We are committed to ensure our property will meet your particular needs and expectations before we will rent to you. Many chalet/cabin rental companies will rent to you just to get the rental and then you are disappointed with what you get. We would rather advise you that our chalet will not meet your needs than to have you be disappointed. Try us and see.
Why the Owner Chose Chalet Village:
We rented this chalet on our first visit to Gatlinburg and fell in love with it and the mountain and national park surroundings. Upon checkout we asked if they would notify us if it ever came on the market for sale and as it turned out the chalet management company owners owned this particular property and had been thinking about selling some of their smaller chalets so they could build a 8 bedroom. We struck a deal. We hope you will like it as much as we did.
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
The fresh mountain air, the beautiful view, serenity. There is also the occasional viewing of the local wildlife, even a bear or bear family passing by. We recommend getting up early and sitting out on the deck when the air is cool and crisp. It is also convenient to all the other activities offered in Downtown Gatlinburg and nearby Pigeon Forge. Teenagers will love going to Dollywood and Splash Country not to mention the great shopping at the outlet malls. Being able to have your small pet/pets with you is beneficial to both your pets and you, also eliminates high boarding fees and separation anxiety experienced by your pet while being boarded. Because the chalet sits on the side of the mountain there is a fairly steep driveway leading up to it. The drive to the top is worth it. Please note that the City of Gatlinburg recommends access to Ski Mountain Road for four wheel drive vehicles or vehicles with chains when there is ice or snow on the road. The city trys to keep the road open for access to Ober Gatlinburg. Watch out for the bears. There is not any warning and they will show up at any time. Do not let your pets or children run loose for their protection. Do not leave any food outside.
