Wonderful accommodation, views beyond spectacular, great assistance by all involved with property. We had a fabulous week here in Malpais. The photos do not do the property any justice, it is just beautiful!!! We spent most of our time pool side or reading on the hammocks or at the comfy outdoor seating area. You need not venture far this property has all that you need. Wildlife abundant..... we had howler monkeys right out our back door one evening. The sunsets amazing, the restaurants in the town all fantastic that we ate at.

Perfect vacation

We are avid surfers and come to Malpais at least twice a year. This house is by far the best house in malpais. It is private with spectacular views off an amazing infinity pool. The house is immaculate and tasteful. It is clear that the owners have put such love into building and maintaining the property. We love to swim in the pool watching the spectacular sunsets. The house is set on a hilltop and there are monkeys that eat from the trees adjacent to the home which my daughter loves to watch. The area itself has the best beaches for surfing and bodyboarding in the world. Finally, the restaurants are fantastic. In the home though you have complete privacy. You will need to rent a car or at least a quad to get to the home.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We were in total bliss the whole time. We have stayed and many vacation properties and my wife and I both agreed this was the most perfect....the property, hospitality, and the town. We will be back and have had many other friends who have seen our photos already tell us they want to go stay at the same property! We maybe should not have disclosed and kept as our secret. :)

We truly couldn't have been any more thrilled with this property. The other reviewers are all spot-on-- it's heavenly. Spacious, breezy, and perfectly positioned in the hills overlooking the ocean. The house is managed by a couple in town who were great with getting us set up with activities and recommendations for what to do. As we we were leaving, we asked ourselves if there was anything that we would do differently next time, and all we could come up with was "stay much longer!"

I absolutely loved it here, the most peaceful accommodations. we really have no complaints. were coming back as soon as we can! everything about the house was clean and beautiful. not far from town. the road was no big deal if you have a car or suv. if your looking for a calm retreat for a two its perfect! very romantic. the whole experience was top notch.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just got back from Casa Luna Luz and cannot wipe the smile off our faces. The house is amazing, the pictures here do not give it enough credit. From the amazing sunrises to stunning sunsets, every minute spent at the property had its charm. This wasn't our first trip to Costa Rica, but it was the first time our kids didn't complain when we told them we have to go back to the house after a day spent on the beach or in the jungle. Tatou was great as well, spoiling us with fish and his kindness. Big Thanks!

Honeymoon Paradise

My husband and I stayed at this house for our honeymoon and it was amazing! The house is such a perfect spot for a honeymoon, close to town but far enough away to be a private escape. When we pulled into the driveway we were so happy with our choice. It's even more beautiful in person, and we got to see one of the famous sunsets on our first night! Our caretaker was Esteban and he was able to arrange anything we needed. Tatu, was our groundskeeper and he suprised us with fresh fish almost every other day since he is a fisherman during the day. He made us fresh ceviche, sashimi, soup and brought us tuna and lobster. The hospitality was great! We were there in the rainy season, while the weathe wasn't bad, most of the shops and restaurants were closed. We cooked a lot and went to the few open restaurants several times. We recommend Burger Rancho! We learned to surf, went hiking at Cabo Blanco, jogging up the road just outside the house, and spent A LOT of time in the pool and out on the patio just relaxing. We didn't want to leave. I suggest a 4wd vehicle or a quad/ATV for the road to the house; it's steep and rocky, but an adventure. I would highly recommend this home for a romantic getaway. We had a blast!

Amazing House with Even Better Views

We stayed at this house for our honeymoon and couldn't have been happier! The house is located up a rather steep, but partially paved road, which provides an amazing view of the ocean. With an infinity pool overlooking it, there's a view that's very hard to beat! The house itself was in excellent shape, very clean and very well maintained! The owner and his local staff were more than helpful in arranging things for us to do and ensuring that we had a great time there. We'd definitely recommend to anyone!!

WOW!!! This place was incredible. The pictures posted do not do it justice. From the minute we pulled up I new this was going to be an amazing trip. In fact, my wife and I got married on the deck last sunday. Joey (the owner) was so helpful with us. Trent and Soraya are there for anything you need. 1 suggestion rent a quad. The hill up to the house is a LONG way up!! We will definitely be back! So bummed to be back in the states! Pura Vida

We had a wonderful two weeks staying at this house. We have been to Malpais every year since we've been married, and this was the first time coming with two children. This house was perfect for us. First of all, the house is beautiful. There is one large room with two smaller beds for the kids, and it was great for us. The bathroom/ shower was humongous and the girls really enjoyed the bathtub. We hardly left the house for two weeks, and spent our time swimming in the pool with our daughters, reading in the hammock and enjoying the sunsets and dinners on the patio. The caretakers took such good care of us, and the housekeeper kept the house spotless for us. We would definitely recommend this house to a small family or couple. We plan on coming back every year!

Private, luxurious retreat

We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this beautiful Mal Pais villa. The infinity pool with an amazing view and the abundance of outdoor living space made this a perfect retreat. The house is comfortable, modern, clean and beautifully designed - convenient to town but also private, above the noise and dust of the roads. The managers - Trent and Soraya - were so helpful and gracious, available for every request and question. We were looking for a resort-level villa with privacy but yet still close to town and this was the perfect spot. We could not have asked for a better stay and in a more tranquil location. Loved - infinity pool, views, outdoor space, lush grounds, abundance of wildlife, spacious bathroom, hammock, modern conveniences, Trent and Soraya's hospitality! Thank you for a wonderful stay - we will return!

My wife and I chose Mal Pais for our honeymoon--we wanted something off the beaten trail and we found it. The owner, Joey, was helpful with booking, and the property managers, Trent and Soraya, were amazing--they went out of their way to make sure our entire experience was enjoyable. The caretakers were very friendly--Carlos and I chatted in spanish every night as the sunset and we looked out over the pacific. The property itself is tucked up in the jungle overlooking the ocean. We saw plenty of monkeys, iguanas, and exotic birds right from the back porch. We will be coming back!

Fantastic Property in Mal Pais

We spent 6 nights at Casa Luna Luz during Easter week in April and could not be happier with the property and its amenities. Frankly, the pictures do not do this beautiful home and its wonderful views justice. The great location is removed from town to ensure total privacy but provides easy driving distance access to local restaurants and/or activities. The pool is absolutely fantastic and the grounds immaculate. We enjoyed many morning walks to the back road jungle to see the howlers, iguanas, toucans and coatimundis. Thank you for sharing this wonderful home and helping make our short stay one we will not soon forget!

We stayed at the villa for 2 weeks and loved it. The location is perfect-close to the beaches and downtown but with total privacy. The views were amazing from the infinity pool. The villa is beautifully done and very luxurious. We are planning to come back

Hello Joey, Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, we've been on the road the last 3 days! Our stay at your house was fantastic! Such a lovely place, breathtaking views and sunsets, so peaceful and beautiful! It was perfect, no other place we went after that could quite match up! My friends loved it and had a wonderful time in Mal Pais... so thank you. The service was perfect, Trent was very nice and helpful and Xavier and his wife did a great job, everything went smoothly! I would definitely rent it again if I have more friends visiting! Again thank you for everything, Lila

Joey, This is Cathy, Jim's wife. Your home was absolutely gorgeous and we were sad to leave. It was a perfect base from which to enjoy the area. Javier and Elena were wonderful, and we had them cook us a Costa Rican dinner one evening. Fabulous! Your recommendations for restaurants and activities were also great. We did some snorkeling, took a day trip to Montezuma, and did a horseback ride from Star Mountain, which Trent arranged for us. Nothing can beat coming back to the house and having cocktails at the infinity pool while watching the sunset and then the stars. It was incredible! We can, and will, highly recommend your place to anyone who will be in the area! Thanks so much! Cathy

Joey, I cannot say enough about your place in Mal Pais! The sunsets, the infinity pool, Trent, Soroya, Elena, and Javier, all contributed to the experience and make us stay forever. The house itself is well designed and is beautiful, I encourage Blaine to come experience the beauty and I do not believe he could find a better place than the Casa del Luna
