Gorgeous Setting

We stayed at Hale Moani for two nights and wish we would have stayed longer. The grounds are perfectly manicured and are straight out of a landscapers magazine. The craftmanship, the artistic details throughout the cottage are beyond words. Absolutely beautiful! The owners are available to answer questions and are committed to make sure your stay is pleasureable.

Relaxing Retreat

Guest: Joan (Champlin, MN)
Date of Stay: 02/05/10 Review Submitted: 09/11/10

We had a great experience staying here! Lots of places to explore in the area - from hiking to kayaking. But the best part was returning to this oasis and enjoying the beauty right here. It was nice to have the freedom to fix our own coffee and snacks, the space indoors and outdoors, and the graciousness of the hosts.

Best rental we've ever had!

I have to say, when I initially booked this place, I was a bit nervous. No reviews (yet), amazing pictures, affordable (special) price, I thought something had to be wrong with the place. I was completely wrong. If you don't know the area, it's a pretty sleepy "off the beaten path" part of Hawaii. There are a few really nice stores, restaurants, and shops in town, and a decent small supermarket. Like much of the Island though, just about everything closes at about the time the sun goes down. But North Kohala is also one of the most lush and beautiful parts of Hawaii, so it's lack of huge crowds is actually part of the charm. The layout: The guest apartment which you'll stay in is actually more of an elaborate adult play room- bar, pool table, big screen TV, etc. The bed folds out of the wall, but was actually pretty comfortable. The bathroom is actually off of the back Lanai, so you actually have to go "outside" (about 10ft under a covered walkway) to get to it. The owners live in their own cottage on the property. So it is not really a traditional condo or guest house. In our opinion it was much better. It also featured an indoor and outdoor sink, coffee pot, microwave, front *and* back Lanai, great dishware/glassware and other amenities that made for a very relaxing stay. Probably the best thing though, is the hosts. They have made a truly beautiful place here, with the walkways, terraced gardens, hand crafted marble, glass, and woodwork. If I had the money to go into semi-retirement and move to Hawaii today, this is pretty much exactly what I'd want it to be. Besides what they created, the hosts are also very helpful, interesting, friendly, and down to earth people. If you're looking for a standard ocean-view condo, this is not it. But if you want a really unique and relaxing place to stay, this may be exactly what you're looking for. It far exceeded our expectations and really was an unforgettable experience. I know next time we make the trip out to Hawaii, we'll be staying here again!
