                      • Take the back road short cut to the Tanglewood parking lot past the winding river through the hills and valleys. Berkshires have long been known as a cultural destination. Now, longtime arts and culture heavyweights like Tanglewood in Lenox and MASS MoCA in North Adams are being joined by an explosion of smaller galleries, and the shops and services that come along with them. Meanwhile, the food scene plays to the area’s strengths — farm-fresh produce, artisanal cheeses and pasture-raised meats. Farmers’ markets from tiny to huge take over parking lots and fields on weekend mornings....moreless

"This small property in the Berkshires served a western Massachusetts community from 1843 to 1985 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Renovated in 2010, the one-bedroom home now has a glass and tile bathroom. "It's very cool," Gray says. "It's the oldest one-room schoolhouse in New England." A blackboard still adorns the kitchen." My husband and I visited in February during the big snow storm. Being from the south, we especially enjoyed having the gas ceramic stove burning in the great room all day and the woods blanketed with snow. We stayed in and cooked in the well-equipped kitchen - a cozy and romantic weekend! We hope to return this summer to attend the Tanglewood events.

After reading the review of this "oldest one room schoolhouse in New England" in Septembers USA Today, I planned a trip to take advantage of the stunning fall foliage. This school house did not disappoint. Thoughtfully updated to provide all the comfort I needed, while still retaining it's historic charm- the original blackboard is still there! It was a perfect jumping off point for various day trips and I was quite content to return back to my home away from home to sit outside by the fire at the end of the day and enjoy my surroundings. Lovely. Thank you for sharing this unique home with me!

Thanks again for our lovely stay at Morewood. This our second stay. We had my sister and brother in law from Boston join us for part of the week. There was plenty of room between the sleeping loft bed and great room couch. They loved the house and the Berkshires. We will be back again in the fall.

We had a fabulous vacation! Morewood is outstanding inside & out. James Taylor & Carol King - phenomenal & BSO - seriously serene. We kayaked in the Stockbridge Bowl & Lake Onata & watched the bald eagles soar over head. Too hot for hiking, but did drive up to Mt. Greylock. Thanks again. Joyce
