Pentwater house description
This dream home was built in 2004-2005 and is a year-round home. The Loft Master bedroom with hand-hewn log queen bed has its own balcony overlooking the valley of maples to the east and the loft itself has the incomparable view of both dunes and Lake Michigan to the west. Attached to the master bedroom is a master bath with a glass tile double shower with inlaid mural. The dressing room/closet has its own hand-painted autumn mural.
THIS PROPERTY IS NOT for sale. There are a couple of "For Sale signs on the entrance to the VERY long drive: there are people who are selling 2 acre plots of land below our property. The Golden Dunes cabin will NOT be for sale: this is our dream and will remain so.
There are 2 main floor bedrooms. The Flora and Fauna room has twin beds. There are drawers full of family-oriented games, cards, puzzles, and toys for your entertainment. The Quilt Room has a double log bed with single bunk above with the quilt theme throughout.
The main floor also has a full bath with massage shower and an antique vanity set with a hand-painted sink. All towels and linens are furnished. Great room and full kitchen finish the main floor. There are French double sliding doors out to the large deck. All bedrooms and the Great room have satellite TV with DVD and VCR.
Entrance level has 2 1/2 car garage, fully equipped laundry and entrance room with storage that includes water toys and floatables. An inflatable raft for your use is in the garage.
There is a lovely Nature Trail throughout our property. It is divided in two loops: a longer and shorter one: feel free to explore the hills, woods and meadows. You are free to hike, cross-country ski or snowshoe on the 26 acres. Follow the orange and yellow tagged stakes for the trail.
An outdoor grill is provided as well as plenty of seating on the large deck.
The laundry room has broom, vacuum and other cleaning supplies you may need throughout your stay.
An open sand area is great for children playing while adults enjoy the view or s'mores over the fire. Please never cut living trees. There is plenty of downed wood on the property. The fire pit also has plenty of seating in a great open area to enjoy evenings under the stars.

Just stayed at Golden Dunes & had a great time. Excellent location. Tons to do within 30 min. Did Michigan Adventure, Mac Dune rides, Bike trail, climbed dunes, shopped Ludington, shopped Pentwater, two different beaches, saw a movie...all was great. However, for those staying in future, a few things about the cabin should be known. There was no sand area outside. The yard was grown up in weeds, and very unkept. Could be described as "natural setting"... but the weedy yard led to us not enjoying the fire pit (too many bugs & weeds) or any sand area. The driveway is sand and deep ruts. We were happy we had not brought a nice car. No pets are allowed, but the basement smelled of wet dog the whole time we were there. There were to be beach things to borrow & use, but the only ones we found were in the garage under a pile of shingles. We also did explore the nature trail...it too was grown up in weeds & are thankful none of us got poison ivy. None of these things ruined our trip...since we were out & about so much. But, was just a bit disappointed that we could not enjoy outdoors at the cabin. Inside of the cabin was spacious and beds were very comfortable. Photos on listing are accurate. Views of the dunes & lake Michigan were very pretty, but were more distant than we had expected. Owner was very pleasant & accommodating. Had a great vacation with our girls.

Just stayed for a long weekend and our family had a great time! Beautiful cabin with great features, would love to go back again real soon! Very private and cozy, right in the woods. We were able to visit Pentwater, Silverlake area, and Ludington, all very close to the cabin. Also, a great view off the deck, wasn't expecting that.

My grandson said Golden Dunes house is "awesome" and we all agreed. The house is very clean and tastefully furnished. The owner provided a wealth of information about the property and about nearby attractions. The fire pit was our evening gathering place for S'mores and stories. The view from the deck is captivating--overlooking beautiful Maple Valley, Silver Lake, a stretch of sand dunes, and Lake Michigan. Sunsets are beautiful. We were secluded yet close to all kinds of adventures: flying kites, building sand castles and climbing to the top of lighthouses; petting calves at Country Dairy; riding a Mac Woods Dune Buggy; and enjoying local farmers' markets and restaurants. I highly recommend Golden Dunes to anyone seeking a quiet and relaxing vacation in a serene setting.

Very nice home in a secluded setting. Positives= centrally located between major tourist towns, great views, close to Silver Lake area, and owners who are very helpful. Negatives= no central A/C for hot, humid days, no WiFi access, a little too secluded for city dwellers (takes a while to get to most destinations). Overall, we had a good experience at this property.

beautiful home on a great setting . our group of 3 couples had a great time on our Jan. weekend get away. A bedroom for each couple and a open floor plan with a fireplace allowed us to play some cards , socialize and use the kitchen with no crowded feeling. A beautiful view of Silver Lake sand dunes with Lake Michigan in the distance.

About the owner: We are a couple in their 60s, currently employed, who enjoy the beauty of outdoors and the serenity of privacy in our own space. We built this home from very special circumstances that we will share upon rental, if requested. It is quite an amazing, heartfelt story. We love this home and have placed special artwork from different countries we have visited there as well as Jill's artwork. She is the artist of the family. You will notice her rendition of the dunes in the Great room as well as a birchbark watercolor and the rock (all rocks from Lake Michigan) mosaic on the retaining wall as you come up to the property. There are also other paintings and a photo wall divider created by Jill. Tom made the coat racks, Jill painted them with native herbs: check them out! The brass bell collection that hangs on the stairway is also Jill's innovation. We enjoy meeting and conversing with people from all over and their unique stories. We rent the home, not only to be able to pay the taxes, but also, because we really enjoy sharing this lovely, beautiful spot with others. Our home is in Lansing, Mi. which is only 145 miles distant so easily accessible by us on a regular basis.
Why the Owner Chose Pentwater:
This is a house that we custom-built. We had the wonderful pleasure of designing it and seeing it through to completion. It is our dream. We have always wanted a place that looks toward the setting sun. there is something magical about it. the west coast of Michigan is quite well-developed, but this section is not quite so overrun by tourists and has such unique features. Where else can you ride on the dunes? Where find that home-town atmosphere with a local restaurant (the Open Hearth Grill) that utilizes foods from this location? As you drive to the house you pass orchards-white and pink in the spring , hanging with apples and cherries in the summer. You also pass graceful fields of asparagus-golden in the autumn.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love to walk the 26 acres and enjoy the stars from the deck at night. There is an unobstructed view, with no city lights intervening, of the Milky Way and the summer triangle. There are a family of turkeys who go by daily on their rounds, clucking and spreading their tail feathers. Deer are often seen on the property. Where else do you need to go for rejuvenation? After being at the beach or the dunes during the day, it is ABSOLUTELY wonderful to have your own space in the evening. We will be gone to a funeral from July4 through July 11 out of the country: so please email inquiries during that time. I will be sure to get back with you as soon as possible after that. Thank you for you patience.
