'Spruce Lodge at Hadley Point' Totally Captures the Feeling of Maine!
- Minimum stay:4-7 nights

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Maine is called 'Vacationland'--Mt. Desert Island, home of Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park, is an incredibly beautiful place where people come to relax, to play and to appreciate all that nature has to offer. 'Spruce Lodge at Hadley Point' has been designed so that you and your family can stay in a wonderful and comfortable environment while you explore and experience all the beauty that surrounds you! Our charming 3-level home has a bright, open floor plan where the living room, dining area & kitchen share one big space on the main level. Just down the hall is a lovely bedroom, full bath and laundry room. Upstairs is a private loft with a balcony and large separate bedroom. Downstairs there is the family room with game table, beverage refrigerator and a really CUTE bedroom that we call 'The Rose Room' and another spacious full bath. Spruce green (of course) is our theme color & it accents 'miles' of natural pine, fun wallpapers & clean painted walls! The furniture, dishes, art & collectibles were chosen with the Maine Woods in mind!
Activities:: The beach at Hadley Point which is only a block away is a public area where you can launch a boat, have picnics, sunbathe, skip rocks and watch for seals and other wildlife. This is a favorite spot for the kayak rental companies to start and end their day trips-it's fun to watch them come and go- you might want to join them! You can swim, boat, hike and ride bikes on your own or go out on a whale-watching tour or sunset cruise on Frenchman's Bay. There are fantastic restaurants, great shopping and even mini golf courses nearby. There is an awesome 'Art Deco' movie theater called 'The Criterion' located in downtown Bar Harbor and two evenings a week there are band concerts on the Village Green. Several art shows are held during the summer and cruise ships come into the harbor weekly! Mt. Desert Island is truly an Unforgettable Place with something for Everyone!

We have spent a week at Spruce Lodge for the past two years. The home is immaculate and well stocked with everything you could possibly need for a wonderful Maine vacation, including a lobster pot with its own propane burner and all the plates and utensil you need for a lobster dinner, (including the bibs!). We are a family with 4 kids under the age of 12 and there was plenty of room and things to do even when the weather was inclement. It is conveniently located near Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Schoonic Peninsula. Hadley Point is a short walk and we were able to build a campfire and enjoy dinner right on the beach. .The owner is a pleasure to deal with and goes out of her way to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. We look forward to returning to Spruce Lodge. Thank you for a wonderful vacationRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: When you love it... I am so happy! When you come back...I am thoroughly honored! When you share your experiences of Maine and Spruce Lodge...I am beyond ecstatic! It is a total joy for me to listen to people and hear what they need from a vacation AND a vacation home and to do my best to provide it to them! With each year that goes by I try to get even more sensitive to your needs as travelers and it is so rewarding to hear that it is working!! Thank you so much! We would love to have you stay with us soon. If you have any questions or comments please call me. Lorie

Our daughter chose Bar Harbor for destination wedding, but the resort didn't have any 2BD suites available, so I contacted Lorie, and we chose Spruce Lodge. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the house was spotless, and the location, peace and fun we had, priceless. It was perfect for our 2-year old granddaughter, my mother was very comfortable, and having a second living area downstairs gave my husband his needed down time. Every ammenity you can think of is there, and the owner emailed frequently to make sure everything was okay. It was like being in a secluded cabin, with only a few other homes in the area. I would highly recommend staying there, and if I ever go back to Bar Harbor for an extended period of time, I will definitely stay there again! Thanks, Lorie, for a wonderful vacation and making our daughter's wedding a pleasant memory instead of a stressful event!!!!Owner response: Thank you, Diane! I am so pleased that you felt that Spruce Lodge was the perfect location for your week long celebration. I had a great experience working with YOU as we both made sure that your entire family would be comfortable during your very special time in Bar Harbor. I know that wedding planning and making all of those decisions CAN make for a stressful time but you all seemed to settle right in and take it in stride. I really enjoyed seeing those beautiful pictures of the wedding - I only wish that you had sent me some cake! :-) As you have probably heard me say before...if you have read more reviews...that I especially love to hear that several generations are traveling together regardless of the occasion. Each age group benefits in a different way and the great memories that are made last far longer than the vacation itself-that is so important. As the 2013 season begins...I am looking forward to helping more families plan their special vacation-it is my privilege to provide you with a wonderful "home away from home" and superior service! Please feel free to contact me TODAY if I can help you with your planning! Thank you. Lorie

Bar Harbor is great in mid-Oct: fall foliage, cooler temperatures, and it wasn't all that crowded. Sunrise, sunset and park loop road were all phenomenal. I found this house for my family to all stay in one place. It is 3 levels with a bedroom on each level, kitchen on the main level. It was a very comfortable place to stay. On it's own private driveway, it's in a very quiet area. Rates are reasonable, and cheaper than hotels and bed & breakfasts. We cooked most of our meals there comfortably, including boiling lobsters on their outside grill. Nice dinner table so we could eat as a family. TVs could use upgrading, as there is a 19" and a 13" tube old-school style tv. Not great for watching sports. Lorie was very helpful and responsive, offering advice of things to do, places to eat, and supermarkets to buy food. She called on our 2nd night to check in with how we were doing. I'd stay here again (if I get my deposit back in full). We left it clean.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My sister, my two daughters (ages 10 and 12) and I do a National Park trip each year, typically staying in a HomeAway house if we can find one. Spruce Lodge was the PERFECT home base for our getaway! The location is perfect. It's nestled in the woods (neighbors are near by, but you can't see or hear them), yet right up the road from the water at Hadley Point. We were close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park to be able to bop back and forth to the house as needed, but away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. As for the house itself, it's decorated just beautifully, and yet is so cozy that you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. The girls found the game closet as soon as we got there and made use of it throughout our stay. The three levels made it possible for us to stretch out, although we spent most of our time together on the comfy couches or around the big kitchen table. Best of all, it is stocked with everything you need including paper goods, cooking utensils, soft towels, etc. Finally, Lorie was a pleasure to work with. We had a couple of questions when we first arrived which she answered promptly, then followed up on. She takes great pride in making sure Spruce Lodge is the perfect vacation getaway, and she succeeds in every way.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This place was perfect for our family vacation to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We had 7 adults and everyone fit comfortably and everyone felt like they had their own space. Lorie was great and was very helpful and even got us a new air mattress for our 7th person. The place was very quiet and was a close enough drive to all the attractions. The lodge itself was very clean and very well maintained. We would stay here again on our next visit!Owner response: Thank you Amy! I had fun preparing for your visit! You were the first guests of Summer 2012! I am so glad that the new Air Bed was a hit. I have never seen one that was so much like a regular bed - "box spring" and all!! I am glad that I bought it. Yes...Spruce Lodge is remarkably well set up for larger parties and multi-generational groups. It offers several different areas in which to gather or just to "get away" from each other for a little while - privacy is a good thing sometimes! I am thrilled to know that you all enjoyed your time in Bar Harbor and I do hope that you can make the long trip back to Maine and stay with us again soon! We are off to another great rental season. Please give me a call so that I can help YOU with your vacation plans and any special requests! Thank you! Lorie

This was the best cottage we have rented till date. It was clean and well maintained ! It was well maintained and we really wished we had rented it for a complete week :( We just did not wish to leave the place. It is also close to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and Bass Harbor. We were able to visit all the attractions and come home and rest at the wonderful house Lorie even called and checked if we had everything we needed. Thanks for everything !!Owner response: Even though this large group/family only stayed for 3 days they were able to take away a wonderful experience of the Island and Acadia National Park. I could tell when we talked that they had fallen in love with the place! And...it sounded like they did some marathon vacationing while they were there! It does make a huge difference when you know that even though you are running around like crazy trying to do as much as possible in the limited time that you have...you can return to a delightful "base camp" where you can relax and regroup for the next day. This group was traveling with 2 young children so that makes it even more important that the house works for everyone. I made sure that they had a high chair and as many toys as I could find. Between our 3 rentals I have toys/books/games for children of all ages and I move the toy boxes around if I think it will be helpful - that is just another personal touch that you can expect! :-) It is never too early to call about making plans for your next vacation - that way you can be sure to get the dates that work best for you. Thank you so much! Lorie

This house was in the quiet beautiful area of Bar Harbor. The house was clean and fully equiped. It had many of the conforts you experience in your own home. We enjoyed cooking our lobsters right on the deck. We are 5 women friends that travel together often staying at homes and apartments. We were all pleased with the acomodations and we experienced the best customer service from the owner. MInutes away from Arcadia National Park and the beatiful coast of Maine. Enjoyed the lay back atmosphere and friendly locals. Highly recommendedRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Fantastic news-thank you, Josefina! I must say that I am always jealous when I hear that a group of girlfriends go on vacation together OFTEN. I need to get more time off! These gals traveled all the way from Miami and they booked early so that they could get the exact week that they wanted! I talked to them several times before, during and after their stay. I really was pleased to hear that they jumped right into the Maine experience and cooked lobsters at home. We have a special lobster cooker that sits right outside the kitchen door on the deck. The large gas grill sits next to it so you can cook any and all your food choices at the same time. One of the gals left an expensive bracelet behind and the cleaning crew located it and she was notified right away We sent the insured package off to the owner and she was really relieved. That was not the only time that we headed to the UPS office this summer. We have shipped clothes, cosmetics, an expensive bottle of liquor and a whole suitcase! If you leave your possessions behind you WILL get them back! That's just part of the great service that you can expect when you stay at one of our 3 vacation rentals in Bar Harbor. Feel free to call Lorie TODAY so that you can book the week that is perfect for your group or family. Thank you!

I have been coming to Bar Harbor and Acadia since I was a kid. I wanted to plan a vacation for my wife and our new baby as well as my wife's siblings. They had never been to Maine. We were all so happy to with this rental. It was absolutely immaculate and had a lot of little extra items that many rental properties do not. Lorie was even so kind as to purchase a pack n' play for us to use so that we didn't have to lug ours up from Connecticut. The house is beautiful inside and out. The woodwork inside is especially nice and you can see that careful attention was paid to the decor. The location was great in that it is so close to Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor, you never have to sit in a lot of traffic at the end of the day. It's so close to everything, you could spend the whole day in the park, run home to shower up, and catch a nice dinner in Bar Harbor in the evening. The owners are kind and easy to communicate with. Thanks Lorie for everything!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Make my day, Kurt!!! Nothing touches me more than knowing that what I prepared for my guests really helped to make their stay the best it could be! This has been the year of "child-centered" additions for our rentals. I have resisted getting the "baby stuff" for many years. But...I have seen how important it is for families and especially extended families to go on vacation together - I believe that it can be such a bonding experience and that we should create those times as often as we can. When you are planning to travel with little ones the amount of "kid equipment" that is necessary is endless and when a rental does not offer some of that equipment it makes the parents packing job seem so cumbersome and that realization lead me to this new place so...I'm "all in"...I now (more than ever before) have KID STUFF!! New toys, books, stuffed animals and games and a really nice high chair plus the Pack 'n Play which even has a custom made mattress...it is so cool! I know that you can tell that I am excited (my husband is not so excited that I have a new shopping list but oh well!) so give me a call and I can tell you about all the great stuff that will make your vacation rental seem even more like HOME. Thank you and let's talk! We can discover together which of our 3 rentals best fits your family and your vacation wish list. Call Lorie today-it is never too early to plan for next summer!

We rented this wonderful house in order to celebrate the recovery of a member of our family from a long illness. Members of the larger family came together from different parts of the country. Each couple was able to have their own bedroom on a different floor of the house which gave us all lots of privacy. And although we did many different things during the day, we gathered together in the evenings for meals, conversation and games. In addition to the house being welcoming and beautifully maintained, it is wonderfully situated. It’s in a quiet wooded area, and although there are a couple of other houses nearby, they couldn’t be seen from “our” house, and we never saw another person; not even a car driving by the house. The house is near the ocean and the sunsets are beautiful. It’s a 5 minute walk to the free shuttle bus that takes you to Acadia National Park as well as Bar Harbor. The shuttle buses can carry up to 6 bicycles, which makes it really convenient if you plan to go cycling in the Park. Wish we could have stayed longer.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: This guest and I definitely had a few conversations before she booked this rental. She wanted it to be just perfect for EVERYONE in her family. She wanted to be able to have several small families within her larger family be able to come at different times and also overlap their visits. She made sure that the house would be big enough and designed in such a way that privacy was available when needed and that central gathering space was present as well. She had it all worked out - when her chldren would arrive and from what airport and who would sleep in which room. It was like she had her own B & B and she was booking the rooms in the way that she needed and wanted. I think it was quite a wonderful adventure for her! I called to check in and I could just hear that it had worked out perfectly. I had sent every person their own set of directions based on the airport where they would arrive. It was fun for her and I really got into it, too! It is celebrations like this one that are so important to a family and I was very honored to be a part of it! I would just LOVE to help you plan YOUR next family celebration - please feel free to call me today! Lorie

The house was not only immaculate, it was easy to keep up and had all of the conveniences I wish I had at home. The location met my picture of what Maine should look like from wonderful trees to the perfect nearby cove. This was the most restful vacation I have ever had and I think it was in no small part due to the well thought out space and comfort of the house.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: A wonderful point you make Ellyce! Thank you. I think that any space where you are makes an impact on your experience. If it is cluttered with unnecessary things or things that are out place then you feel a bit more anxious and unsettled but...if the environment is streamlined and clean then you have "more room" to express yourself and/or enjoy the solitude around you. It is with this belief/concept in mind that I look at each of our vacation rental homes and try to find the right storage place or storage receptacle for the items in Spruce Lodge. I keep it orderly so that you can relax-vacations are not usually long enough so the more effective they can be for rejunevation the better! This location also offers you a short walk to the beach so that you can be totally spontaneous and just go there without a car when you want to be near the ocean for that special kind of soothing relaxation. The sunsets on Hadley Point Beach are fantastic-they should not be missed. I have had many guests send me pictures of the glorious sunsets and they never cease to amaze me! Whatever your vision is...for the perfect vacation rental...we will certainly do our best to match or excede those expectations because...if you are happy and have great memories of your vacation you will want to come back time and time again. It is a win for everyone! Call today for answers to any of your questions! Thank you for your interest! Lorie

About the owner: I was born in Bar Harbor and my entire family lives or works only 5 minutes from our rental homes. My husband was born in Wisconsin and he fell in love with MDI the first time I took him there in 1996. He knew even before I did that we MUST have our own property there so that we would always have an excuse to go north whenever we could! Mt. Desert Island is such a beautiful place - we both are so thankful that we can experience it many times a year and I must say that we are struck by the beauty and the solitude every time we go 'home.' We hope that you truly have a wonderful time whether it is your first experience or you have been visiting for 20 years. My Dad's motto is...'If you come to Maine once it won't be your last time.' Of course he is pretty bias on the subject - having lived in Bar Harbor all his life! I wish everyone could get one of his Island tours-they are awesome to say the least! He started working as a chauffeur at age 15 and he can tell some stories. He and my Mom owned several restaurants and motels and even developed the largest campground on the Island, Bar Harbor Campground which my youngest brother now manages. Seems like our family has been in the hospitality trade forever and...with all that experience we have certainly learned how to take good care of our guests!
