'Thank you for providing such a lovely spot for us to spend a week together. The lobster feast was wonderful--we had to take a rest between courses!! We biked Peak's Island (ferry from Portland, bike shop up road to left-easy rentals) and explored Wolf's Neck State Park (wonderful osprey sightings!!).. The Old Port in Portland is a good destination for shops and restaurants. The Royal River Grillhouse was great too!'

'We so enjoyed your beautiful home. The lobsters were delicious! One of our favorite spots was Christmas Cove.'

'Thanks for everything, we loved staying here!'

'We had a great week here. Went sailing on a windjammer from Portland--it was fantastic! The lobster feast was amazing! One of our favorite places was Boothbay Harbor. Thanks Joi & Lee, your house is lovely. Cheers!'

The kids and adults will want to visit Eartha the world's largest globe which is right here in Yarmouth at Delorme Map Company headquarters. We also have a beautiful YMCA with two swimming pools and a great workout facility just 4 miles up the road. There is also a local movie theater nearby in Falmouth just 15 minutes away.

Things to do...

Thank you Joi and Lee for providing another relaxing and comfortable get away for our family. We always love to visit your clean, comfortable and spacious rental house. I always find the lobster dinner spectacular! The 12 lobsters we ordered from Maine Lobster Direct at Christmas were also luscious! We are hoping to visit again in the Fall of 2013. The kids and my husband are looking forward to exploring some of the islands this year. Thanks for the tips on ferries and nearby restaurants! In addition I am planning a girls weekend away and think "TIdes Edge" is the perfect place. We can relax, read, cook in your well equipped kitchen (yah!), and/or drive into Portland for a great meal. Thank you and we look forward to our return!

Owner response: Dear Rebecca, We're so glad that you all had such a nice time and that you enjoyed the lobsters. We look forward to having you and your friends here for a girl's weekend this fall! Best, Joi and Lee

Dear Joi and Lee, Thank you so much for going above and beyond to make our visit and our graduation celebration so special! Our dinner was perfect! In fact, we will be ordering from your catalog soon for Steve's parents in Washington state. If ever we need a few days with all of our family, we will be back! We count it a treat to have met you both :) Thank you! The Wilkinson Family Westerly, RI

Thank you Joi and Lee for a taste of life on the beautiful coast of Maine. Our experience of Tides Edge was peaceful, relaxing and memorable. The extraordinary sunrises, fresh salt air and magnificent view of the cove, in addition to the generous lobster feast, were more than we could have asked for! The sunporch, complete with books and comfortable chairs was quiet and inviting. We appreciated the clean comfortable atmosphere of Tides Edge after exploring The Old Port in Portland and L L Bean in nearby Freeport. All that we needed was provided. We could not have been more pleased with our stay.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad that you enjoyed your time at Tide's Edge and hope that you will come back some day and visit us again! Best wishes, Joi and Lee

What a beautiful spot! The house is adorable -- spacious, quaint, squeaky clean and with a view that is truly amazing. Lee and Joi, the hosts, couldn't have been more helpful and generous -- they are friendly, available if you need them but not intrusive. They always greet you with a smile and their two beautiful daughters were very sweet! The beds are comfortable with LL Bean linens (my personal favorites!) and we could have sat on the porch overlooking the ocean for the entire time, if they hadn't been so helpful and pointed us in the direction of many fun experiences. We've stayed in many, many rental houses over the years and this home is definitely in the top two and the value for the cost pushes it way out in front! In a nutshell -- beautiful home that is right on the ocean, great view and attentive, friendly and responsive hosts who do everything they can to help you have a wonderful experience. RENT THIS (but not when WE want it!!)! We'll keep coming back!

I did stay at this home but listed a different date as I wish to stay anonymous Pros: Nice setting, great view, quiet. Lobster meal was nice. Easy to get the rental agreement. Cons: It is an unfriendly experience to rent this home. The owner is prickly, and she lives nearby door. When renting a vacation home, one is looking forward to a vacation and relaxing. The view is enough to ignore short-comings of the small house: that the basement room is dingy, the house is fairly worn and shortcuts taken (put the old couches they don't want anymore in the house, use plastic railings on the porch), the downstairs entry has a funny smell, and the bed pillows are hard. With a view like that, the owners foolishly cut corners and placed tiny windows so you can't see the ocean from the beds. Going downstairs for the bathroom is a bit of an inconvenience. Our family was excited about visiting due to the woodstove in the photo, the bikes and kayaks that had originally been available. Disappointingly, Joi decided that all of the above, stove, bike, kayaks were all "withdrawn" and gave an insurance/liability excuse - pointing out that we could go rent any of the above, with no regard for the inconvenience of having to somehow strap kayaks and bikes to the car and transport back and forth to the rental house. She didn't care. A person who enjoys people would have found a different insurance solution that doesn't shut off a woodstove (in Maine), take away bikes and kayaks (Many other homeaway homes provide these). Or, at the minimum, show some empathy, "I'm so sorry that we had to remove the kayaks - it is a huge inconvenience." This house had the potential to be a place that I rented many, many times but, due to the inhospitable nature of the owner, it has left a sour taste in my mouth. It is only a back-up rental that I will use if all other options are already rented. If all you want is a lower-end house with a great view, a contract and to send the money and get a lobster dinner, you will be okay. However, be aware that the thing you are most looking forward to, Joi , might change or remove without any notice or apology. Perhaps it is annoying for her to have to deal with renters but she doesn't want to hire it out. I don't want to feel depressed during a vacation planning.

Owner response: Dear Dr. Laura, My husband and I are quite honestly two of the nicest people who you will ever meet. We bend over backward to accommodate our guests and try to make everyone feel happy and at home. Our house has always gotten rave reviews and people regularly tell us that it's much larger and nicer than the photos make it appear. In the five years that I have been renting Tide’s Edge, I have never had one complaint, only compliments. I have been very patient with you and have tried my best to meet your demands. We never advertised that the house would have a working woodstove or bikes, yet you felt that you were entitled to use both. Lee graciously offered to find you a rental company for the bikes, which you then later declined to use. With regard to the kayaks, we did offer them last year, but after having you at our home for a week, decided that it would be safest not to offer them again. What amazes me is that, despite all of your complaints about our house, you tried repeatedly to book several weeks both last year and this year! When you didn't get the second week that you wanted to rent last summer, you actually asked me to contact the other guest and cancel her contract (which of course I wouldn't do). When you didn't get the week that you wanted this summer, you questioned me and insinuated that I had blocked it off so that you couldn't have it. You finally decided to rent two weeks in August and asked me for a discount, which I couldn’t do because it was peak season. You asked me to email you a rental agreement, which I did. When I didn't hear back, I emailed you and was told that you had changed your mind and didn't want to rent after all and then we got this complaint. I honestly feel that this complaint was your way of trying to blackmail me into giving you a discount. We honestly love having people stay at Tide's Edge and have met some of the most wonderful people over the years. Many of our guests return year after year. Fortunately for us, you will not be one of them! Joi and Lee

The Tide's Edge Guest House was everything we expected, and more. We came to attend the Harvest on the Harbor in Portland, and this was the perfect place to stay. The location was convenient to everything we wanted to do, and the house provided a wonderful home base. Everything we needed was available, and the seafood feast was an awesome addition to a great vacation. We loved waking up to the sunrise and having coffee on the porch every morning, and browsing the wonderful collection of books. Joi and Lee were terrific hosts and we hope to be able to make a return visit. Highly recommend!

My mom and I had an incredible stay at this perfect house in Yarmouth, Maine. The house and location are charming, and Joi is a wonderful hostess. The house was so comfortable and had a beautiful view. While you are here, make sure to wake-up early for sunrise one morning - you won't regret it! PS - the lobster feast was delicious.

The rental house was beautiful, even nicer than I expected. It was very clean and well stocked. There is a beautiful sun room with super comfy furniture and a lovely deck. This is truly a "vacation" property, a treat to stay at. The lobster dinner was fabulous and a very generous add-on to great property. I would highly recommend this rental and I would defintely rent it again if I were in the area.

Owner response: Nancy, It was so nice to meet you and your family. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay at Tide's Edge and we hope to see you all again someday! Best wishes, Joi and Lee

A perfect place for a relaxing couple of weeks away from the heat of Arizona...The Tide's Edge Guest House was more than we ever expected. Fully equipped with all you could possibly need and a simply fabulous view. Although we did not do othe usual touristy things (having been born and raised in Maine), we enjoyed having our own place so close to family membera and had our fill of lobster and other seafood. We would recommend to anyone thinking about a Maine vacation. Joi and Lee were great hosts - we look forward with anticipation to our next visit. Judie and Dick Young, Mesa Arizona

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our property consists of two family homes which are on the ocean in picturesque Yarmouth, Maine. They're only a couple of minutes from quaint Yarmouth village with it's historic homes, white church steeples and little shops. Our guest house is lovingly maintained, spotlessly clean and very well-stocked. From the beautiful flower gardens to the ample supply of books and magazines, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy your vacation. We love sharing our beautiful family home with guests from all over the world. The most frequent comment that we get when people arrive and see the house is that it's even better than they thought it would be. We think that it's nice to be pleasantly surprised once in awhile, don't you? Best, Joi
