If you are looking for something truly magical, and are looking for a great view of the Appalachians, and you may be a J.R.R. Tolkien or a C.S. Lewis fan. Buck Horn is the Place for you and your family. Buck Horn,is the nick name the house was given by the locals. Buck Horn was one of the first homes built before the opening of the National Park and the 11 acres it sits on was chosen for its commanding view of Mount LeConte (the 3rd tallest mountain in the Appalachians by only 16 feet, elevation 6593 feet) and the mountain range that leads to the famous New Found Gap. There is so much history that goes with this place, it's hard to put in a few short paragraphs. So, when you would like more detail's on Buck Horn, please contact me at my email or my cell to chat about all her wonders.

Wow, where do I begin? The house was designed and built by Bruce McCarty in the late 40's, and completed in 1952. The house is of Frank Loyd Wright inspiration, as this was Bruce's influence while he attended Princeton and through out his career. The house began as a family retreat for all seasons. The site for the home was picked just after Tennessee was awarded the Site for the entrance into the Great Smoky Mountains.

Bruce wanted it to be special where the family could gather for all types of family events, and this being Bruce's first house he designed and built he was looking for just the right spot and boy did he find it. I consider it his master piece and we are talking about the fellow who designed the World's Fair in Knoxville (see wikipedia Bruce McCarty) I could be a little partial. The local newspaper wrote an article about Buck Horn upon it's completion in 1952 claiming such revolutions as complete with washer and dryer, sleeps 14, hot water heater, and full kitchen and bath. The construction is unique in that the whole lower floor is constructed of giant flag stones, polished wood inner wall's and ceiling's, and of 18 inches of solid granite that was recovered from the foot of Mount Le Cont (not one piece of sheet rock in the house).

The den area was designed to give you the feeling you are sitting under a shade tree situated as to have a picturesque view of Mount LeConte. With its massive fire place, polished hard wood ceilings, built in viewing couch, large flag stone floors that continue through the 18 foot soaring windows out onto the veranda over looking mighty Mount LeConte, you have the feeling of being outside, as this was the intent. The guest who have stayed at Buck Horn comment on how they loose sense of time and find it hard to leave ,even with it being so much to do in the local and surrounding area. The view from the den is all inspiring no matter what the season it could be the fall with the changing of the leaves as you watch the colors change as they rise up the face of LeConte or when it snows and you are nestled by a roaring fire and you seem to be out side in it as it flutters on to the veranda ,or the spring when the bloom begins and the colors abound every where you look.If you have read the Lord of the Rings it's like your own private Rivendell, and when the Fire flies are in action you can almost hear the elf's singing. .

Also, on the lower level, there is a spacious fully equipped kitchen, half bath, laundry room, and a cozy home theater with 62' Pioneer Elite Plasma Monitor with Yamaha and Harmon Cardin surround system. The seating in the theater is a custom wrap around couch that is stuffed with the equivalent of 20 down blankets(too comfy). The upper floor is a cantilevering masterpiece constructed of 12' clear pine polished walls, vaulted ceilings, with floors that look as if they are from an old Chris Craft Boat.

Two of the three bed rooms have private balconies that seem to float magically a great place to start your morning with a cup of coffee or a place to catch up on that book you have been dying to read, and they are connected by a masterful cat walk that over looks the valley leading up to Mount LeConte. Just like the lower level, there are windows galore all with custom brass rolling screens. The upper level wraps up with a full bath, a third bedroom with an amazing view and plenty of closet space.

I would love to have you come and enjoy the wonders of Buck Horn and her great history. Buck Horn is designed to be used year round.

So when I saw this property online, I thought this is to good to be true.. Turns out it is true and its even better than I imagined! It was like I stepped into a time machine and went back to the 50's with new age technology. The view of Mount LeConte was breath-taking. The whole back of the house was windows so, I got to see it everywhere I went. The location was very private but only a couple miles from the grocery and downtown Gatlinburg. We saw all the sites of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and got to come back to our own private chalet. My girlfriend and I went hiking on the property, which seemed never-ending. Its hard to put all of it into words, but we had an amazing time and hope to come back every year!

Buck Horn Lodge was the perfect place to get away from the everyday routine. It was so secluded and private that it felt like its own resort. The house had everything you could possibly need but the views throughout the house of Monte le Conte were enough for me. It was so pretty, cozy, and comfortable. It was the perfect place for a romantic getaway but it would also be so much fun with a group of people. Richard, the owner, made sure that we had the exact vacation we needed. I look forward to going back with friends and family and hanging out by that massive fireplace. Thank you so much for introducing us to our new favorite vacation spot!

my husband and i rented your buckhorn cabin a few weeks ago. as a business owner myself, i am always thankful when customers provide feedback, be it positive or negative. i find constructive criticism very helpful for our business. so, here is some constructive criticism for you concerning the house: - unfortunately, the electric grill, the dishwasher and the washer/dryer were all broken for our stay. there was no charcoal provided for the charcoal grill. the meals we brought to cook were completely for the grill. - there was no firewood, as it was noted on the web site that there would be firewood provided for our stay. - the house was covered in bugs, both alive and dead. we were fully prepared to have our share of spiders, being in the woods. that is not the issue. however, there were at least 10 huge spiders that we killed during our 2 days there. and, not to mention the multitude of dead bugs all over the house. in the sinks, in every corner of the house, covering the bathrooms. spider webs everywhere. centipedes in the bed. it doesn't appear that there is even a pest control service used. and definitely no one took his/her time cleaning the place. the floors and counters were "clean" upon first glance, but once we got in there, the dead bugs everywhere were out of control. - the coffee maker was completely unusable -- it was totally green on the inside where the grounds should be, as no one has cleaned it out, it appears, in months. it looked like a science experiment. disgusting. this was not in any way worth what i paid you for two nights. we could have stayed in a 5 star hotel for that amount. what i was expecting was not at all what was delivered. there is no way that someone was paid to clean what we saw. i feel totally cheated on how much money i spent and we will not be making a return trip. i apologize to sound so harsh, but i seriously can't believe i paid for that experience. my precious husband and i had a fabulous time being together, as usual. but, it was essentially like we were camping...with an awesome tv. that tv is awesome and provided much needed distractions. to top all matters off, i have emailed you 3 times with NO return correspondence. ridiculous. DO NOT RENT HERE.

We took our college kids for Fall Break to Buck Horn. It was exactly what we needed. Every couch, chair, bed, blanket, pillow was extremely plush and comfortable. In particular, the TV room was so comfortable and cozy. The couch was cozy and felt so comfortable, we fell asleep every night watching tv. Richard was one of the most contientious owners ... very caring and concerned that our stay met our needs. We recommend this place for a quiet get-away. The privacy of this unique house made it very special. The back deck has a privacy wall and comfortable furniture for the group to sit outside and enjoy the beauty of the view of Mt LeConte, as well as feeling like you are in the woods with the nature. We did see a bear this trip on our drive towards Cades Cove! If you are looking for comfort, peace, and you like uniqueness, and the beauty of the mountain, this is the place as it offers window views from every room that make you feel like you are outside. Thanks Richard for making our trip memorable and pleasant!

We had a really nice stay at buckhorn. It is a beautiful and unique place snuggled into the surrounding wilderness. It has an atmosphere all it's own. It is also in a nice location close to downtown gatlinburg. Richard was very prompt about returning my emails. We didn't see any bears, but there is always next time.

We had an amazing adventure and our stay at Buck Horn was perfect. My children ages 7-14 and I really enjoyed our time here. The property is secluded yet close to everything we wanted to do. We spent our days hiking and exploring the Smoky Mountains and came "home" to a relax in a fantastic house. It's clean, tastefully decorated (the pictures don't do it justice), the beds are comfortable, the view is spectacular, the TV is huge, great selection of games and movies, and a super convenient location. There is a grocery store (Food City), downtown Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountains just a few minutes away. Highly recommended!!!

My family wanted to spend some time enjoying the mountains and we picked the perfect spot. This home is like no other in the area. The unique environment in this home makes the guest feel warm and cozy. We were amazed at every turn. From the cozy couches by the fire, the amazing den/TV room to the beautiful bedrooms and porches, it was like being in another time zone. We enjoyed Thanksgiving with family...special memories. Thank you, Richard, for making us feel right at home away from home! We look forward to another trip to Buckhorn.

My family and I wanted to spend a relaxing week in Gatlinburg for the holidays and Buckhorn was perfect for our needs. I am typically very cynical, so when I read the ad for the cabin I thought it was probably embellished. After waking up to the spectacular views at Buckhorn, I'm a believer. I completely understand the "Rivendell" comment now. My niece (9) and nephew (13) claimed the t.v. lounge upon arrival while my parents claimed their spots on the huge couch in front of the fireplace. There was enough space for three generations to spend a week together without ever feeling cramped. The view from every room perfectly frames Mt. LeConte in the distance during the day, and there is low voltage lighting outside in the trees that creates a magical show from every window in the evening, not to mention the cantilevered balconies from the bedrooms. Anyone with the slightest interest in Modern art and architecture will be fascinated with Buckhorn. I found myself studying the whole house. The structure is just amazing. Finally, my family and I arrived as a major snowstorm was blanketing the entire East Coast. There was so much snow, there were cars in ditches, and we heard later about people on Ski Mountain having to be rescued. We were snowed in for the first three days of our stay, but we were comfy and cozy with a roaring fire and plenty of entertainment right there in our cabin. The kids didn't even get cabin fever thanks to the awesome t.v. lounge and wifi. We were afraid that we were going to run out of firewood when there was a knock on the door. The firewood guy showed up with a delivery right on time. He said that "Richard had called and asked if he had made the delivery. Richard was worried that we would run out of firewood." I can not say enough about how pleased I was with our stay. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with our family.

My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon at Buckhorn Cabin! It was absolutely fabulous, we'll be back time and time again. Buckhorn is certainly very different then most of the cabins down in Gatlinburg! Buckhorn has unique architecture, a very interesting history,it is very clean, and beautifully decorated inside and out. Its very private sitting on 11 acres by itself, however only 7-10 minutes from the heart of Gatlinburg. You can even catch the trolly down the road to the artists community which is full of beautiful and interesting shops, or hop on the trolly at the foot of the driveway, and take it down to Gatlinburg strip. The cabin is also extreamly close to the smoky mountain national parks, with lots of hiking, and sight see-ing. Buck horn was so nice and cozy to come home to after a long day packed with activities. With the fireplace in the living room going, and a cup of hot tea and a book I was in hog heaven. My husband on the other hand was all about coming home and sprawling out on the feather bed sofa, and watching a movie on the 62 inch TV, in the theater room! Buckhorn's owner Richard is absolutely wonderful! He was so helpful to us for ideas, information, and history. Everything he said to do was fantastic, we had a blast. I'd say that the listing description was definitely accurate to the actual cabin, so were the pictures. The property was spotless, and very well-maintained. We will be back to Buckhorn time and Time again. We loved it! We had a great honeymoon, next time we will come down and stay a few days longer for sure! Thanks Again Richard!
